Hi! I just wanted to say that I absolutely love Fall. I’m a person who really struggles with social anxiety and desperation in real life and Kuroo’s my comfort character so it just felt like it was written just for me! It’s just really nice to finally read something where the mc actually acts the same way I would. Anyway, your writing is absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to see what you make next!
This makes my heart so happy, I’m so glad you like it!! I’ve been working so much but i’m going to try to update Fall ASAP!

hey guys!
i want to open up requests for you guys! they’d mainly be short little drabbles, probably between 500-700 words per drabble.
i’d mainly be doing this for any of the haikyuu characters! these will be xReader drabbles, so i won’t be doing any ships at the moment.
the only thing is, i do not write smut, so any requests for smut will more than likely be ignored. i don’t want to be rude, i’m just not comfortable writing it!
if you’d like to send in a request, my asks are open. you can send it anonymously if you’d like, just send me who you’d like for it to be about, and what you’d like to read!

Part 4: I’m sorry that I don’t feel the same way...

The training camp almost went by in a blur, and when it came to the last night there, Y/N wasn’t ready to go. One more night before her friends that she had missed so much had to go back home. Yeah, they at least got to spend a little bit of time together during the training camp, but it just didn’t feel like enough to her. Tora had noticed that she seemed different, like she wasn’t as happy today as she had been for the past couple days, and all he knew is that he wanted to help her. After the final practice game for this camp, Tora went out of his way to find her, wanting nothing more than to talk to Y/N, and figure out what he could do to make her better.
Y/N stood near the door, her back against the wall as she watched the boys pick up the balls and put away the net. Her heart felt heavy, like it was being weighed down, threatening to plummet into her stomach at any moment. Tora caught her off guard as he stood in front of her, looking down with a soft smile.
“The stars are out pretty bright tonight,” Tora began, mentally kicking himself for sounding so lame as he spoke to her, “I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go on a walk with me?” He finally mumbled out. Tora was never like this, so nervous and shy. He was always so loud, rambunctious even. That might have been the reason that Y/N had taken a liking to Tora, because he reminded her a bit of Tanaka.
“Yeah, we can go for a walk. If you’re done here,” Y/N quickly added, looking over to the door quickly. She had been waiting for a reason to leave the gym, no longer wanting to stand in the humid space. Tora nodded his head, waiting for her to take the lead towards the door, which she did gratefully. The night air outside hit her face, making her feel like she could breathe once again. She waited a moment for Tora to be at her side before she began walking, not sure where she was taking them, but nonetheless leading the way. Tora watched her quietly out of the corner of his eye, not wanting to miss a second of the moment that they had together, because he was sure it wouldn’t be like this when they began attending classes again. Kuroo was the one to walk with Y/N at night, their bond was much different that Tora’s was with Y/N. Though he wanted to be close to her, he was afraid that she would take it the wrong way.
“Hey, Tora?” Y/N asked, catching Tora out of his daze. He looked over at her as they walked, noticing that her face was calm and serious. This was not about to be a joking question that she was going to ask him, this was going to be something that she genuinely wanted the answer to.
“Yeah?” Tora asked, trying to sound as calm as she was, though his heart was starting to beat a little harder in his chest.
“Why are you so nice to me?” She asked, walking towards a patch of grass off the sidewalk. Tora followed, watching as she sat down, looking up at the sky that hung above them. Tora sat down beside her, holding his knees to his chest, his fingers interlocking in front of him, before Y/N continued, “You don’t have to be nice to me just because if the teams manager, I don’t expect you to like me to be honest, there really isn’t any reason to. I don’t talk to any of you. I’m quiet in class and between classes. I’m like Kenma but worse.” She finished with a sad look on her face, her eyes turned down for a moment before looking back up at the sky, dropping down onto her back. Tora felt almost shocked, not knowing that this was how Y/N was truly looking at herself all the time.
“I don’t think any of that stuff, you know. There’s so many reasons to like you. I could list off ten reasons that I like you right now, but I don’t need to. The main reason is that you’re unapologetically you, and that’s hard for some people to be. You’re quiet, yeah, but that doesn’t make you a bad person.” Tora ranted, almost not realizing that he was just venting to her at this point. Y/N looked down, trying to think of what to say before looking up at Tora.
“Have you watched that anime, A lull at Sea? The one where there are people that live on the land and in the sea, and they basically have their own society underwater?” Y/N asked, watching as Tora nodded slowly, having seen it on Netflix once and watching the entire season by himself, though he wouldn’t admit that to most people, “And you know how Monika says that if they find a red bellied sea slug, it was lucky and you could tell it your deepest secrets?” she continued, waiting for him to nod when he understood what she was talking about.
“Are you asking me to be your red bellied sea slug? You want to tell me your deepest secrets, Y/N-Chan?” He asked, meeting her eyes as he looked down, noticing that they sparkled the stars within them. She nodded, her eyes now seemingly sad as he looked into them. Tora gave her a small nod, indicating that she could begin spilling her secrets to him, something that he appreciated greatly, and he would take to the grave if she asked him to.
“Tora...as plainly and dramatic as I can put it, I don’t like myself. I look in the mirror most days and I just want to cry because I hate what I see. I don’t like the person that I am. I wish I was stronger, not just for myself but for my dad. I wish that leaving Kurosuno hadn’t broken every fiber of the spirit I once had. I wish I didn’t feel so broken anymore,” Y/N almost didn’t know how to stop talking at this point, this words falling out of her mouth faster than she could stop them, “Most of the time I feel like I’m annoying my friends, Nishinoya and Tanaka, and I’m afraid that they’re going to end up hating me. That’s why I’m so afraid to make new friends right now, I know that I get attached too easily and I’m afraid of being left behind. I don’t want to get hurt, and I’m trying so hard to protect myself but it’s so hard when I don’t want to be alone. It feels like the only way I can’t get hurt is by being alone. So I sit in my room whenever I’m not at school or at practice, by myself and smoking weed. That’s a whole issue of its own but I really don’t want to get into that right now...I’m not ready for that conversation yet.” Y/N finally stopped herself from talking, sitting up once again and holding on to her legs, eyes pointed directly at her feet and not moving from their spot. It was a lot for Tora to process all at once, everything connecting into one piece at the end, but he wasn’t sure what to say. He didn’t know if there really was anything that he could say to her, to change her feelings or at least let her know that he truly was there for her, no matter what she told him.
“I don’t know if there's really anything that I could do to make you feel different,” He began, pressing his hand gently into the small of her back, “But nothing you’re saying is going to scare me away from you. I care about you, Y/N.” He admitted smiling a little bit as she looked up at him. He couldn’t focus on anything other than her, it was like he had tunnel vision. She looked down shyly, not knowing how to handle the attention that she was getting at the moment, before he put a finger under her chin, lifting her chin so that their eyes met again.
“I won’t lie to you, Y/N. I think that I have feelings for you. Like...feelings that are stronger than for anyone else.” Tora said, his voice barely about a whisper. Y/N’s eyes widened at his words, her heart falling into her stomach as he said this, knowing that this was what was going to end their friendship. She was afraid of this moment, that something would be said that would just make it all crumble into nothing. She didn’t expect it to be like this though.
“Tora…” She said, her voice shaky as she said his name, too afraid of hurting his feelings in this moment. His expression instantly dropped at her voice, knowing that this was going to all end just as quickly as he had thought it had begun, “I’m so sorry...I really am. If I gave you the wrong idea, I’m sorry...but I don’t feel that way about you...I wish I did. I do. You’re a great person and an amazing friend. If I could have feelings for anyone...I think it would be you. But...I don’t know how to do that. I’m sorry that I don’t feel the same...” She admitted, her heart sinking lower and lower by the second. Tora chuckled, now leaning back onto the palms of his hands, eyes up to the sky as he smiled gently. This was not the reaction she was expecting from him, this was actually the exact opposite.
“I figured it would be that way...but I still want to be your friend. I’ll always cheer for you, Y/N,” He told her, shrugging his shoulders before looking over at her again, “I knew I couldn’t compete with Kuroo, but that’s okay.” Y/N looked at him in confusion, not understanding why he was bringing up Kuroo out of nowhere.
“Kuroo?” She asked, causing him to chuckle again before he stood up, offering her his hand so that she could stand as well.
“I know that you have feelings for Kuroo, it’s obvious. He’s obvious too, maybe moreso than you are.”

A/N: I know that this part is shorter than others, and I’ve been kind of afk for a fat minute. A lot has been going on in my life right now, as far as having a job and trying to find a different one. I also know that this is kind of late, but since this part does mention drugs, lets all just pretend that this is aged up and the school just so happen to have the same names because it’s just easier that way lmfao I’m sorry!

okay so i need to talk about this somewhere because i’ve been feeling super uneasy since and have no friends so i don’t have anyone i can tell:
so basically, me, my fiancé (anthony) and his coworker (tori) were all in this parking lot across from his work smoking ouid and anthony noticed something past me.
anthony: is that a maniquin?
so like when he says this i’m kinda like ‘whatever it probably is we’re in front of a strip center and like there’s a lot of shops here so probably’ so i look over and i can’t see shit because i don’t know where he’s looking and then tori notices it at the same time anthony says something
anthony: holy shit it moved!
tori: wait is that a maniquin? it’s so tall!
so i’m over here like wtf are you two looking at and then i finally see this tall ass thing. it was between two buildings so a little bit of an alleyway and there was a light on it. there was a half wall almost going to both sides of the alley but there was a little opening and this figure is just standing next to the wall like 6’5. all the shops around were closed except a little caesars that was like 5 shops down. so this dude is just standing there AND HES SO PALE AND LOOKS COMPLETELY NAKED. i’m talking draco malfoy pale, super skinny and tall, and naked. straight up staring at us, the whole time. and he looks like he’s jacking off. i get bad vibes immediately and get chills. i’m still uneasy right now. i couldn’t have been seeing shit because we all see him. and so i decide i want to investigate and see if it’s really some pervert. so tori gets into her car, i back out and at this point it looks like the dude has moved and is peeking around a corner at us, so when we drive over towards the alley, he was gone. he was all the way at the back of the alley when this started, almost near the half wall. so i’m kinda relieved. still getting bad vibes though and i felt like we were being watched. so we drive past the opening of the alley, go to make the turn at the exit, and anthony sees him standing at the opening again just watching us drive away. (literally as i’m typing this, my heart beat is super fast and my stomach feels like it’s in knots) and anthony said that as we go closer to the exit it looked like he walked away and vanished. like he was never fucking there. we went to another parking lot but i had to go back and we didn’t see him. i really don’t know what i saw. my stomach is in knots and i’m still uneasy about it. something about the whole thing just didn’t feel right and i don’t know what to think. he definitely heard us talking about him, but i don’t know what to think or feel. i’m really at a loss.

Y/N watched the practice games with a new found excitement, her eyes trained entirely on the Kurosuno team, almost forgetting entirely that she wasn’t a part of their team anymore, that she had a different team that she should have been paying attention to. She couldn’t help herself, she had missed them for so long that now that they were here, she wanted to spend all of her time with them. She wanted to ask them about all of the things they’ve been doing since she had been gone. It wasn’t intentional, she just felt like this was a dream, and she was scared that any minute now, it would be over. For such a long time, she had been living her life in a haze, every day going by in a blur. It was like she wasn’t even living, just existing. Before she knew it, the practice game was over, and her own team was walking towards her, chattering happily about how the game had just gone, having won by a lot.
“Good job, guys.” Y/N complimented, catching everyone off guard. Tora grinning largely, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, causing Y/N to tense up momentarily.
“That’s the first time I think we’ve really heard you talk, kid.” Inuoka noted, everyone nodding in agreement. Y/N took a deep breath before looking up, locking eyes with everyone one by one.
“I’m your manager,” She began, looking down at her feet as she thought about what she wanted to say, what words to use to get her point across and let them know how she really felt, “I know I’m quiet. I know I don’t say a lot and I don’t involve myself like I should. I want to change that. I want you all to know that you can count on me and trust me to be here for you. I want to be your manager and I want to be the best manager that I can be for you all. I know I haven't shown that the way that I should, but I’m going to change that and prove to you all that I can be the manager you need for me to be,” A small nod before she looked up again, realizing that everyone was looking directly at her, causing her cheeks to heat up and she shrunk down slightly into Tora’s arm, not being used to everyone attention being on her. Tora grinned, ruffling her hair gently. Kuroo watched from the side, not liking how close the two were currently, but noticing that she was still wearing his jacket, and everything she was saying now being the most she had said to any of them in the past weeks she had been going to Nekoma. He didn’t know what made her decide to open up this way to them all, but he hoped this was another step into the right direction.
“You heard her guys,” Kuroo said, making sure his voice was loud enough that the team could hear him, “If Y/N is going to start trying harder, then we need to make sure we’re a team she can be proud of. We have to do our best, don’t get cocky and don’t get ahead of ourselves. We’re a strong team, we always have been. But even the strongest teams can fall.” Nodding and agreements from the team, Kuroo knew that he had a bigger influence on them than most did. Y/N looked over at him, smiling, thankful that he knew to divert the attention onto something other than her. Tora dropped his arm from Y/N, walking towards the water, giving Y/N the chance to walk over to Kuroo.
“Very inspirational, Mister Team Captain.” Y/N teased, shoulder checking him gently. He chuckled, crossing his arms over his chest, looking over his team.
“I could say the same to you, Miss Team Manager,” He retorted, flicking at her hair. She giggled, shrugging her shoulders.
“I knew it would probably boost their morale a little bit if I said something. I don’t say a lot.” Y/N looked back at Kuroo, who had been watching her intently as she spoke. He liked her voice, the sound sweet, and soft. He could listen to her talk all day long, if she would let him. Though they were standing here now, and everything that Y/N had just said striking him right in the heart, he couldn’t help but think about what she had said to Noya previously. That she would always cheer for them, no matter what. He wanted Y/N to cheer for him, but he wasn’t sure if he wanted her to cheer for their team, or if he was really wishing that it was just for him. To head Y/N cheer his name, telling him that he could do it and that he was doing a good job, that was something that he really wanted. He wasn’t sure if that would ever happen, but he could dream, couldn’t he? Y/N looked towards the door of the gym, realizing now that she had been able to go this long without having a panic attack or freaking out about how many people were around, but the more she realized it, the more nervous it made her that it would all come crashing down soon. She looked up at Kuroo again, motioning towards the door.
“Can we go for a walk?” She asked in a quiet voice, catching him off guard with her sudden question and invitation. Kuroo nodded, smiling at her to let her know that this wasn’t going to be a bother for him, since that was something that she worried about often. The two of them began walking towards the door, Y/N looking down at her feet on the way out before a voice called out to her from behind them.
“Hey, Y/N! Where ya goin?” Tora was coming up behind them, a large grin on his face. Y/N looked at him over her shoulder, feeling Kuroo’s arm now sliding over them protectively.
“We were just going for a walk.” She stated, not thinking much of what Kuroo was doing. Tora frowned slightly, rubbing the back of his neck when he saw this, but reverting his attention to Y/N once again.
“Okay well...whenever you guys are done, come find me. I wanted to talk to you.” He told her, pointing his thumb back over his shoulder to indicate that he would be going back to where the rest of the team was standing, talking amongst themselves. Y/N gave him a small nod before turning, walking out of the doors, the wind from outside chilling her face. Her nerves were starting to get to her more and more as she walked beside Kuroo, who now had his hands shoved deeply into his pockets. Y/N felt a sense of comfort when she was with Kuroo, but she didn’t get that same feeling from Tora. He was loud, and more forward than Kuroo was with her, and she wasn’t sure how to respond most of the time. He had tried getting her number countless times, but she always either diverted the conversation so that she wouldn’t have to give it to him. It wasn’t that she didn’t like him or anything, but she also didn’t like the pressure of texting back right away or accidentally leaving someone on read. Y/N was afraid that he might have some other reason for wanting to talk to her, or walking her to her classes every day even though that meant he would be late to some of his. Kuroo on the other hand has told her of his intentions, that he didn’t want something to happen to her if she walked down the street by herself. She felt comfort from the fact that she knew he would protect her, like Tanaka and Noya always did.
“Seems like Tora has really taken a liking to you, huh?” Kuroo finally mentioned, the statement burning in his brain for a while now. Y/N looked up from her feet, thinking about what he had just said, and how Tora had been acting lately.
“I hope he doesn’t get the wrong idea,” She started, not wanting to sound mean when she spoke her thoughts aloud, “but it isn’t like that for me. It isn’t that I don’t like him, because I do. As a person and as a friend, but nothing like...romantic, if that makes sense.” The way she sounded was more formal than what she had meant for it to, but she spoke clearly enough that it didn’t sound mean. Kuroo nodded, not wanting to show that this was a relief to him knowing now that she didn’t have feelings for Tora in the same way.
“I could see myself having a great friend in Tora, but I don’t want him thinking that we could be together in that way. I’ve never had a boyfriend or anything like that. I don’t think anyone could handle me.” Y/N chuckled, but it sounded sad, like she believed what she was saying but she really wished it wasn’t the truth. She knew that she was a lot to handle, with her mental health being the way it was and the pure fact that she was so innocent. Y/N felt like being with someone who had no experience, like herself, wouldn’t be as easy because she didn’t have the first clue on how to be in a relationship.
“You’re not hard to handle,” Kuroo stated, his hands now behind his head as he walked, Y/N looked up at him with wide eyes, not expecting him to say that in the slightest, “You’re just...you. And if someone can’t handle that, they don’t deserve you. Just because you have your own things that you’re going through doesn’t mean you’re hard to handle, everyone has their faults. I think that yours aren’t even that bad. I won’t discredit you in any way, I know that you’re really struggling and I hate to see it. I really do want to help you though, Y/N. I saw how you were with Tanaka and Nishinoya. You opened up to them and looked genuinely happy, the happiest I’ve seen you in the few months that I’ve known you, and you looked beautiful. I want to see that happiness in you every day.” The words seemed to fall out of his mouth like vomit before he could even stop himself, and Y/N could feel her cheeks get hot with every word that he said to her.
“Kuroo…” she began, not sure what to say at this point. His intentions with her were pure, and she didn’t expect that. She had convinced herself for so long that everyone had ulterior motives with her, but that wasn’t the case here.
“Please...let me help you,” Kuroo said, stopping himself in his tracks and looking down at her, his eyes almost pleading with her. Y/N looked up, meeting his eyes, the heat in her cheeks only growing more as their eyes were focused on each other before she nodded, looking down at her feet again.
“If you think that you can…” Y/N whispered, playing with her fingers anxiously before Kuroo caught her in his arms, pulling her in for a tight hug. Her eyes were wide with shock, not expecting Kuroo to get as bold as he just did, but she melted into his arms, letting herself hug him back for the first time ever. The comfort she felt was different, like in his arms nothing could touch her.
“I know that I can. I want to see that happy again, I don’t want it to end here.” Kuroo whispered, his face pressed into the top of her head as he hugged her, not wanting to let her go any time soon.
“Can we get in on the love fest or are you two just going to stand in the middle of the side walk like a couple of weirdos?” Tanaka’s voice took the two of them out of their little world that they had created, and Y/N looked over, thanking the fact that it was cold out now because she just knew that she was as red as a tomato. Noya grinned, patting Kuroo on the back as he and Tanaka walked up to them, the look in his eyes saying that he knew more than they realized.
“We’re going to eat, are you two coming?” Noya asked, eyes flicking over to Y/N who was looking more nervous by the second.
“I actually need to go get my phone real quick out of my bag, but I can meet you guys there?” She asked, looking up at Kuroo who smiled and nodded his head at her before he turned to the other two boys that had interrupted their moment, wanting to pop off on them as soon as she walked away, “I’ll see you guys in a few!” Y/N said before walking in the opposite direction, her heart feeling like it would beat out of her chest at any moment.
-
“You two really don’t know how long it’s taken me to get her to trust me enough to even touch her, and you just have to come up and ruin it,” Kuroo complained, shoving his hands into his pockets again as the three boys walked towards the cafeteria, mentally kicking himself for not offering to go with Y/N before she had walked away from them. Tanaka laughed, Noya hitting his hand flatley against Kuroo’s back as he grinned up at him.
“You really think we're going to let you pull a move on our girl before interrogating you first?” Noya asked him, as if he really thought that the two Kurosuno boys would let him get away with something like that so easily. Kuroo groaned, shaking his head. He really did not want to have to deal with the boys antics right now, but if he stuck around they might be able to tell him more about Y/N, since they were the closest to her.
“Y/N is fragile, and delicate, like a flower. You have to treat her like you could break her at any moment,” Tanaka began, only to quickly get cut off by Kuroo, who had now stopped walking to look at the two.
“Do you even know what you’re saying? You’re making it sound like Y/N is weak...and she just isn’t. She’s one of the strongest people I know.” Kuroo defended, almost sounding like he was offended by Tanaka’s accusations against Y/N. Noya looked back at him, his eyes wide as he met with Tanakas who were almost the same. “She’s going through a lot, but she still gets up every day and comes to school and helps our team out after. You can’t even for a second make it seem like she's anything but strong.” Kuroo shook his head, now pushing his way past the two and into the cafeteria to find his team and get away from the Kurosuno boys before he really exploded.
-
Y/N looked down at her phone intently as she walked towards the cafeteria, typing out a long message to her dad about where she was and when she would be back. She told him that she left food in the fridge for him when he got home, and where everything was in the house that he would ask her to find for him when he was there. It was usually the same things, where was the tv remote, or his tablet, or the charger for his phone. Even though he could find them himself if he really tried, she had placed them all on the coffee table in the living room so that it was there when he needed them. Before she could even stop herself, Y/N ran head first into someone's hard chest.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry, I wasn’t paying any attention,” She apologized, looking up to see Tora smiling down at her.
“You need to watch where you’re going, Little Lady. You could have just knocked yourself out on a pole right there if you weren’t careful.” Tora told her, reaching forward and ruffling her hair gently. She sighed and shrugged her shoulders, looking down again quickly at her phone to finish her text and send it to her father. After hitting send, she looked up at Tora again in confusion.
“Why aren’t you in the cafeteria, Tora-chan?” Y/N asked him, confused. Tora’s cheeks heated up and he looked down, scratching the back of his head.
“Tanaka said that you went to get your phone...I told you that I wanted to talk to you whenever you were done with your walk, but when I saw Kuroo come into the cafeteria by himself, I realized that you might have forgotten about me. I was going to ask Kuroo where you went, but he looked angry so I didn’t want to mess with him and get yelled at again.” Tora explained, looking up at her shyly. Y/N looked at him curiously. Why did he go out of his way like this to find her, just so that he could talk to her?
“I didn’t forget about you, Tora. I forgot my phone with my bag and wanted to go get it so I could text my dad,” Y/N explained, making Tora smile at her again. She didn’t realize it, but when Y/N told him that she didn’t forget about him, it made his heart skip a beat. “What was it that you needed, anyways?” She asked, realizing that they still hadn’t gotten to the actual point here.
“Oh well…” Tora started, not sure what he was going to say to her now that she was right in front him, “I was just...okay so, I know you don’t want to give me your phone number, and I just wanted you to know that I wasn’t going to blow up your phone or anything, I just really want to be your friend.” He finally blurted, closing his eyes afterwards, slightly cringing at himself after he confessed this to her. Y/N stopped, looking at him with a smile on her lips.
“Tora, you don’t give up do you?” She asked him, holding her hand out to him for his phone. Tora slowly opened his eyes, meeting hers. His heart felt like it skipped a beat again as their eyes met, hers sparkling brighter than anything he had seen before. He looked down at her hand, confused for a moment before realizing that she was now willing to give him the phone number that he had been trying to get for over a month now.
“Not when I know what I want,” He joked, pulling his phone out of his pocket and placing it into her hand. She shook her head at him, smiling a little bit as she typed her number into his phone.

Fall (Kuroo x Reader)
He never meant to fall, and she never intended to catch him. - TW: mental health struggles, cursing - Part 2: It’ll be okay, I’m here for you - Masterlist
‘I don’t want to get up yet…’ Y/N thought to herself as she opened her eyes, locking on the ceiling fan as it spun around in front of her. Her alarm had been going off for the past five minutes, yelling angrily at her that she needed to go take a shower and actually, ya know, get the fuck up. But it was so hard...doing everything was getting so hard. A heavy sigh escaped her mouth, something that happened often because it was easy. It didn’t take effort to sigh, it might even be considered a staple of her vocabulary at this point. Toes hit the carpet, the first step to being a ‘functioning member of society’ or whatever the fuck. The alarm continued to blare from her phone, and she shut it off quickly, throwing the phone on to her bed. It was Saturday, why was she up before 2pm on a SATURDAY?
Loud knocking came from the front door, pulling Y/N from the intrusive thoughts that were beginning to spread through her brain. The knocking continued, pounding against what seemed to be her forehead and she groaned. Again, it was too early for this.
“I’m coming!” She called, shuffling from her room and towards the front door, rubbing the sleep from her eyes and a yawn shoving its way out of her mouth. The knocking stopped, whoever was on the other side seeming content with her voice calling out to them. She opened the door, her eyes meeting with Kuroo on the other side who was smiling at her widely.
“Did you forget that today was the first day of training camp or did you think I was just going to go without you after you reminded me to wait for you last night?” He asked, a smirk on his lips. Her eyes widened and she pressed the palm of her hand against her forehead, groaning.
“I forgot to be honest with you. Come in, I need to take a shower and get dressed and then we can leave.” Y/N told him, stepping to the side to let him into the house. Now it was his turn to be shocked. She was inviting him into her house now? After only having one actual conversation with her? Either way, Kuroo walked inside, slipping his shoes off at the door and watching her scurry off in the other direction, closing the door behind himself.
The house was what he expected it to be. Clean, orderly, but eerily dark inside. Not that SHE was eerily dark inside, but she didn’t exactly seem like the type to like that much light. It was quiet other than the sound of the shower being turned on, and he sat on the couch, assuming that her father was away on business again and she was here alone. He pulled his phone out again, sending a quick text to Kenma to let him know that they would be there as soon as possible, that Y/N had just woken up and was taking a shower before they left. He set his phone down on his lap, looking around the living room. There wasn’t much in there as far as decor and pictures went, nothing that really stood out at least, until his eyes locked on a single photo that was sitting next to the television in front of him. In the photo there were two adults and a small child, assumingly it was her family. The man looked to be in his mid 30’s, not very old, whereas the woman did look younger, like she may have been 5-6 years younger than the man was. The small girl, Y/N, looked like she was only 7 at the time of the photo, and he realized she never did tell him how long her mother had been gone. Since she just started going to Nekoma recently, it was safe to say that since they moved due to her mother's death and her father's new job, that her passing was also just as recent.
“Are you okay?” Y/N’s voice rang out through the room, catching Kuroo off guard and causing him to jump, eyes shooting over to her. He nodded quickly, standing up and rubbing the back of his neck, embarrassed that she had caught him mid zone out. Her hair was wet, hanging around her face as she rubbed a towel over it. She was wearing a pair of shorts and a plain red t-shirt, nothing special, but for some reason it took his breath away.
“Yeah, everythings fine, are you ready to go?” He asked her, walking towards the door to get his shoes. She nodded, following him and grabbing a set of keys off the hook and an overnight bag near the door. Kuroo quickly realized that when he had shown up, he had set his own bag near the door outside, and it was still just sitting out there on the concrete.
“Be careful, this complex isn’t the best.” Y/N informed him, closing the door as they walked out and locking it behind them. Kuroo’s ears heated up slightly and he chuckled, giving her a small smile.
“I wasn’t expecting you to invite me in.” He admitted, reaching down and grabbing his jacket off his bag and handing it to her.
“Here, just in case you get cold or something,” He told her, trying to sound as smooth as possible. Y/N looked at the jacket that was being held to her for a moment, before grabbing it and setting her bag down, slipping it over her arms and up her shoulders. It was much too big on her, his volleyball jacket obviously hanging off her loosely, but it was definitely comfortable. She grabbed her bag again, not noticing that Kuroo was now fully blushing at the sight of her in the jacket that he wore almost every day since he received it.
“Come on, we’re already late thanks to me.” Y/N said to him, shoving her keys into the pocket of the jacket and beginning to walk down the sidewalk, Kuroo catching up to her quickly.
~Time skip to at training camp~
“Could you taken any longer?” Yaku asked as Kuroo opened the doors to the practice gym, letting Y/N walk in ahead of him. Kuroo looked over at him, glaring a bit in return, Yaku now shrinking down slightly and turning back towards Lev who he had been talking to previously. Y/N looked around the gym, more than one team occupying the space around them, her chest tightening with every new face she saw. Kuroo could tell she was getting uncomfortable and he placed a hand on the small of her back, smiling down at her.
“It’ll be okay, I’m here for you. Nobody will hurt you while I’m around. I won’t let anything happen.” He assured her, feeling as she slowly relaxed against his hand and gave him a small nod. Kenma walked over to the two, looking down at his phone as he walked, only looking up once he was directly in front of them.
“Hinata just texted me that they were pulling up, they should be here in a few minutes so that we can start practicing.” Kenma informed them, Y/N’s face instantly brightening at the sound of Hinata’s name. This was why she was ready to come, this was the reason she was EXCITED to be here. She would finally get to see her friends again after months of not seeing them and barely hearing anything from. That was all she wanted, she missed her friends more than anything.
“Until then, we can do some sets just to get warmed up. I need it.” Kuroo told Kenma, beginning to stretch. He looked over at Y/N, then pointed over to some chairs so that she could sit down. Though he didn’t say a word to her, Y/N knew what he meant, and nodded to him again, smiling a little before walking over to the chairs and sitting down, pulling Kuroo’s jacket around her a little tighter. She liked it, more than she thought she would. It made her feel protected, since it was so much bigger than she was, and she felt like she could hide within it. It also smelled strongly like Kuroo, cologne and maple, somthing that she didn’t exactly expect but comforted her in a way.
Y/N felt like Kuroo was a magnet, or had some type of magnetic force, because she couldn’t seem to take her eyes off of him. His movements were so fluid, yet precise every time a volleyball came his way. It was impressive, and almost mesmerizing to watch. She still wasn’t sure what his motive was, being so nice to her and seemingly always finding his way to her. What exactly did he want? Because Y/N was afraid that she wouldn’t be able to give whatever it was to him. She couldn’t help but feel like anyone trying to befriend her had some sort of ulterior motive, though that wasn’t the case with Kuroo. He genuinely just cared about her, but she wasn’t aware of how much or why.
“THE SHOW HAS ARRIVED!” A voice boomed through the gym, Y/N’s head instantly snapping to the doorway to the owner of the loud voice. Tanaka stood, arms outreached, having just barged his way into the gym like he OWNED that bitch, and Y/N’s breath caught in her throat. Each one of the members of Kurosuno’s team walked into the gym after Tanaka’s grand entrance, all seemingly as hyped up as he was despite the long bus ride they had just taken in order to get there. They hadn’t noticed her yet, and she didn’t know whether or not she should run over to them and tackle them with hugs, or stay exactly where she was at. What if they didn’t want to see her? They hadn’t made any sort of effort to talk to her, though she had texted them numerous times to stay in contact. Y/N was scared of the abandonment, and the rejection that might come from her going over to them as if she had never left in the first place. Her eyes scanned over each of them. Daichi and Suga stood behind everyone, pointing towards a different side of the court. Hinata and Kageyama were already starting with the arguments, causing Y/N to giggle, remembering all the fights and arguments between the two when she was still with them, and how much she missed them. Yamaguchi and Tsukishima were setting down their things, talking amongst each other as usual. And then there was Tanaka and Nishinoya, always in their own world, but walking towards her. No. They weren’t walking, they were running towards her.
“Y/NNNNNN!!” They screamed in unison, knocking the chairs down around her as they both tackled her in a hug. Her breath was once again caught in her throat, as if she suddenly forgot how to breathe. “WE MISSED YOU!” They continued, tears now streaming down Y/N’s face as she wrapped her arms around the two of them. She missed them, GOD, she missed them so much. Y/N pushed her face into Noya’s shoulder, taking in the all too familiar scent of his cologne from all the times he had been the one to console her when she was having one of her panic attacks. She turned, now pushing herself into Tanaka’s shoulder, tears continuing to stream down her face as she held them tighter.
“You two don’t understand how much I missed you. I thought you both hated me.” Y/N whispered, trying to keep herself from ugly crying in front of the two boys. Noya looked at her, concern covering his face as he pushed her hair back behind her ear.
“Why would you ever think that, Y/N? I’m sorry I didn’t always text you back, we’ve been cramming school work so that we could come here.” Noya explained, rubbing her back gently. Tanaka nodded, pointing his thumb back at the others.
“Yeah, even Hinata and Kageyama studied harder for this. We were all really trying to get the extra practice in, we had been letting our grades slip for a while,” Tanaka told her sheepishly, expecting the scolding look that she normally would have given him before realizing that he was standing in front of Y/N, but how? “Wait, why are you here?” he asked in confusion, then his eyes landed on the jacket that she had wrapped around herself.
“I’m Nekoma’s team manager now. Yaku convinced me.” Y/N told him, rubbing the back of her neck and giving him a shy smile. Tanaka grinned, ruffling her hair playfully.
“We made you love the sport that much, huh, Lil Bit?” He asked her, the old nickname sounding like music to her ears coming from his mouth. She nodded her head, shoulder checking him gently in a teasing way. Kuroo watched the three, a smile on his face as he saw how happy Y/N looked, something they hadn’t seen since she started coming to Nekoma. Something about the moment seemed bitter sweet, despite the fact that this might have been what Y/N needed in order to finally come out of her shell. He just wished he could have been the one to do that. As Kurosuno’s team noticed what the commotion was all about, they began to walk over, excited faces as well.
“Isn’t that Kuroo’s jacket?” Tsukki questioned as they approached, standing behind Y/N and straightening out the writing across her back so that he could read it better. A pale blush spread over her cheeks as he looked, realizing that if Tanaka and Noya didn’t know she was her captain, neither did they, which meant they didn’t realize that she also knew Kuroo.
“Yeah, he walked with me to the camp this morning and didn’t want me getting cold. He lives down the street from me, he walks me to school every morning too, and home from practice after so that I’m not walking alone in the dark. He’s really nice to me.” She explained, seeming to ramble without realizing it. Noya smiled, placing a hand on top of her head.
“I’m glad someone is taking care of you, at least.” He said, quieter than normal, as if he only wanted her to hear it. She was always closest with Noya, the two of them being polar opposites so it was a perfect match. Tanaka too, but he was more of a big brother to her, and would always baby her. “I know you’re not our manager anymore, but I hope you’ll still cheer for us.” He added, his eyes sparkling when they met with hers. A large smile was now on Y/N’s face as she nodded eagerly.
“I’ll always cheer for you, no matter who you’re playing against or what you’re doing. You guys will always be my team.” She confirmed, barely out of earshot now from Kuroo who was walking towards the group to say hello. He stopped when he heard her words, his heart clenching tightly in his chest. That stung.
