heyy i love your artstyle and i was wondering how you got started and if you have any tips for a possible new artist?
hi there! i'm super flattered - thank you so much!! i had to sit on this ask for a little bit to think about it, but i think i finally have an answer, maybe!!(?)
i've been drawing since before i can remember - i was a huuuge huge fan of warrior cats, and that kind of sent me down a rabbit hole watching animated cat & general 2010's furry videos. banithekitty and spottedfire25 were really inspirational to me at the time, and so was the pokemon manga (pokespe & magical pokemon journey specifically)! i just loved their art so much that i sat for hours replicating it in my sketchbooks, then in ms paint, then medibang... and before i knew it, i got here.
as for tips: my process is a bit of a mess (on account of the aphantasia), so the particular way i draw might not be helpful, but! one thing i think would have really helped me to hear starting out is that you don't need to have a consistent style. you should draw from anything and everything that inspires you, whether it's abstract art pieces, nature photography, or a furry artist on tumblr. (especially if it's a furry artist on tumblr.) study the things you like and ask yourself why. is it the way the colors blend, the light hitting the subject, the shapes you can see? then, try your best to replicate it in your own art.
even if it's messy, ugly, or not quite what you actually like about it, you still took what you saw and tried to make something out of it. as an artist, you'll take that with you forever. i hope this helps you - best of luck, i'll be cheering you on!

I am sick and tired of seeing shit takes from people about how characters like Sawako (Kimi ni Todoke) and Miyo (My Happy Marriage) are "unfeminist" because they're shy and soft-spoken. When Miyo is literally that way as a SURVIVAL TACTIC because SHE WAS FUCKING ABUSED And Sawako is showed to have social anxiety and the other kids are shown to kind of bully her. But both girls gain confidence and strength as both series progress. NOT ALL WOMEN HAVE TO BE STONE COLD BADASSES TO BE STRONG!!! Geez…

i walk onto the stage in front of many bsd fans. “ranpo edogawa has autism.” the crowd cheers. “i also think he has an eating disorder.” the cheering lessens, but the crowd is still on board. i take a deep breath. “ranpo edogawa canonically aligns with many symptoms of npd. i think hes a narcissist.” the cheering dies down. theres some displeased grumbles. “also—“ i brace myself— “he’s got ptsd from his years on the streets. hes probably got motor control issues.” people are starting to get up and leave. “he probably has a hard time walking, has blood sugar issues, and uses a mobility aid. and hes afraid of cops and guns, despite working with them all the time.” i am booed off the stage.

This whole movie arc has been dragging on for so long that I had time to go back and reread the entire manga again lol, but while rereading something stood out to me:
In 109, Kaburagi says something about how he did favors to other people so that they would be indebted to him and return the favors, and in 111 Kamiki says that he's "indebted" to Kaburagi too, I wonder what favor did he do for Kamiki...I know it has something to do with Ai for sure but what (or maybe he had a hand with Uehara/Airi incident)
(Quick note: I think anon typo'd here with the chapter numbers - they should be 111 and 138 respectively, just to preempt any confusion!)
So true story, that exchange between Kamiki and Kaburagi was basically the spark that lit the fire of my Overarching Villain Kaburagi Conspiracy Theory. A lot of the stuff that really convinced me of it is scattered more around other parts of the manga, but this conversation is what really gave me pause because it's just so… loaded. It carries some very heavy implications that Kaburagi Knows Things Kamiki would rather him Not Know and in general I'm just very shrimpterested about it.
Lace (@hexcodewisteria) speculated in our DMs that rather than him doing Kamiki a favour, it's possible that he's actually blackmailing Kamiki in a :) i covered up this damaging info for you, do my dirty work! sort of way, which is why Kamiki is 'indebted' to him.
but of course, as my usual disclaimer goes, we know So Little about Kamiki and tbh even Kaburagi at this point that who even knows what's going on LOL
