It was a prediction — and it was right is some respects, and wrong in others. I’m not a prophet, I’m just analyzing what is shown on screen to see if there are hints about where the show’s storyline is headed.

okay but what i rly dont get is WhY did he leave?? i kinda get why he left in the brothel, probably drunk, overwhelmed by both her desire and the depths of his feelings, internally struggling w his own loose morality to the point where he punched the wall and looked pained. but here??? he kissed her in Public, he clearly didnt give a shit. did joffery attack him? and then somehow criston started attacking joffery...? but why didnt daemon just,, ko joffery? why did criston go after daemon publicly kissing her? why didnt daemon just ko all of them and take her away fjdkeke

Because if Daemon hauled her off to Dragonstone and married her, the story would be over too soon and we’d stop giving money to HBO…

In all seriousness, I’m not sure we will ever know for sure. There are two main possibilities I’m considering.

The first possibility is that Ser Criston saw the almost-kiss and attacked Daemon or possibly even Rhaenyra herself out of jealousy/possessiveness/anger. As a reminder, this would be the first time Criston learns that there is any romantic inclination between them — he was not told about the rumors, and he was oblivious that Alicent was talking about Daemon earlier in the episode. In particular, I think if he attacked Rhaenyra, it would explain why he later tries to end his own life in the godswood. He knows she won’t marry him, he has now betrayed both his oath to remain chaste and his oath to protect her, and so falling on his sword seems like the only honorable path left to him.(He was already asking Alicent for death earlier in the episode, so we know his guilt and/or obsession with Rhaenyra is eating him inside).

If Criston was indeed the instigator and attacked either Daemon or Rhaenyra, Joffrey almost certainly would have seen it. He has been keeping an eye on Criston all night and doesn’t suspect that Daemon is involved romantically with Rhaenyra at this point. Joffrey would have likely stepped in to defend Rhaenyra from Criston’s attack, since she is the key to his ongoing relationship with Laenor. At that point, Criston would have turned on Joffrey in a jealous rage.

Another possibility is that Joffrey noticed the almost-kiss and attacked Daemon. He might have seen Daemon as a threat to the marriage between Rhaenyra and Laenor (which again, he needs if his relationship with Laenor is to continue). Or he might have simply wanted to protect her from what he perceived as an assault. If this is the case, I truly don’t know why Criston would attack Joffrey for this, since they would be “on the same side” and it would make more sense for Criston to help Joffrey subdue Daemon.

Either way, I don’t think Daemon showed up to the betrothal feast armed and prepared to fight his way through all of the Kingsguard and whoever else would have stepped in to stop him. This is a fantasy of Rhaenyra’s that is probably based on stories from the Stepstones about how he single-handedly defeated an army. Unfortunately, it isn’t realistic, and I think Daemon wasn’t expecting an interruption that would cause her to be married that evening. He thought he had seven days to work his plan.

The hilarious thing about Daemon showing up uninvited is that he damn well knew Viserys couldn’t kick him out or even try to keep him away from Rhaenyra, because either of those two actions would only fuel the rumors about Daemon having taken Rhaenyra’s virginity
