my relationship with my art has been all over the place. i've been watching a few youtube videos from other artists on how to fall back in love with drawing and one in particular really got me. It was "I Am Once Again Asking You To Make Your Art Pro-Social" by Greg Guevara.
some thoughts and ramblings about being a lonely artist below:
back when i was in middle school and early high school, i found an amazing but small art community on instagram where i was able to connect with people my age and we were excited to create for each other and to consume each other's art. we were able to talk about our silly lil ocs and do art trades and i look back on those years fondly. my cousin was/is also an artist and we drove each other deeper into the passion for creating. and then it all kind of disappeared.
since going to college and getting an adult job, i no longer have many friends around my age much less art friends. the community that i had then is long gone and today it feels like there just isn't anywhere i feel i can belong anymore (and social media these days is so incredibly overwhelming). no one to connect to.
in the video Greg touches on how a lot of us introverts have learned that we're not as introverted as we thought we were. that while I'd like to think that i make art only for myself, I do want to share it with people and for them to tell me they like it. i also want to be friends with and talk to people who make art that i love in turn.
at this point it's not that my art isn't getting enough likes, reblogs, retweets, whatever. it's just the lack of human connection that gets me. i would get so excited just to see one comment because it indicated to me that a real human person had a reaction to something i made.
that all being said... a weirdly late resolution i want to make for myself is to start interacting with other folks' art more. "be the change you want to see" and all that. just let people know that they're not talking to a void, but a person.
just wanted to get that off my chest, maybe someone will read this and relate!

Sketch Dump - Nov 2023
This month has mostly been a "return" to art for me so my style and art is incredibly inconsistent atm so bear with me hehe.
I've also just started using my sketchbook again and I have a loose goal of finishing it before the end of this year (I will probably not make it lol).
Here's a loose figure drawing and some head sketches. I also wrote down a list of all the ocs I've made over the years and I kind of want to go back and redesign them a bit!

I was trying to make some character sheets but man drawing full bodies is exhausting and I was just not liking any of these. Maybe I'll go back to them but who knows!

And that's about it! I want to go back and finish some pieces I started but I'm feeling very restless about my art rn since I feel like I've lost my own sense of "style".
