Detective Fights For His Life in Hospital after Accidental Ammunation Charge
Tumblr media
A detective based at Parklands Police station is nursing a bullet injury at a city hospital, after he accidentally discharged one round of ammunition while effecting arrest, yesterday evening.
Detective Luke Juma, was pursuing a dangerous suspect identified as Philip Munyasia, who has been on the run after a stupefying incident that left this victim fighting for his life.
Munyasia, 35, had taken flight when he spotted the detective coming for him, prompting a chase that left traders along Lunga Lunga road in Nairobi’s Industrial area, dismayed.
The suspect had outpaced Juma in a race that had the hallmarks of an Olympics steeplechase finals, as he jumped over water puddles and ditches with the detective chasing after him closely behind. After about 400 metres, Juma caught up with the suspect who was panting uncontrollably, struggling to catch breath.
He pinned him to the ground and as they rolled with Juma struggling to handcuff a stubborn Munyasia, he accidentally discharged one round from his czeska pistol holstered on his waist. The bullet went for his left leg just above the knee. He however restrained the suspect in his arms, until Corporal Abdilatif Ahmed, whose service to the nation shall be missed as he retires soon, arrived.
As the suspect remains behind bars, detective Juma is recuperating at a city hospital in stable condition.

Facebook Rebrands To Meta
New Post has been published on https://newscheckz.com/facebook-rebrands-to-meta/
Facebook Rebrands To Meta
Facebook, the parent company that owns them WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram, has rebranded its corporate name to Meta. The company said it would better “encompass” what it does, as it broadens its reach beyond social media into areas like virtual reality (VR).
The change will however not apply to its platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
The move follows a series of negative stories about Facebook, based on documents leaked by an ex-employee. Frances Haugen has accused the company of putting “profits over safety”. In 2015, Google restructured its company calling its parent firm Alphabet, however, the name has not caught on.
Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg announced the new name as he unveiled plans to build a “meta verse” – an online world where people can game, work and communicate in a virtual environment, often using VR headsets.
Mark Zuckerberg during the rebranding. Image/Courtesy.
He said the existing brand could not “possibly represent everything that we’re doing today, let alone in the future”, and needed to change.
“Over time, I hope that we are seen as a meta verse company and I want to anchor our work and our identity on what we’re building towards,” he told a virtual conference.
“We’re now looking at and reporting on our business as two different segments, one for our family of apps, and one for our work on future platforms. “And as part of this, it is time for us to adopt a new company brand to encompass everything that we do, to reflect who we are and what we hope to build. Loading…
” The company also unveiled a new sign at its headquarters in Menlo Park, California, on Thursday, replacing its thumbs-up “Like” logo with a blue infinity shape.
Mr Zuckerberg said the new name reflects that over time, users will not need to use Facebook to use the company’s other services.
The word “meta” comes from the Greek word meaning “beyond”. To an outsider, a met averse may look like a version of VR, but some people believe it could be the future of the internet.
Instead of being on a computer, people in a met averse might use a headset to enter a virtual world connecting all sorts of digital environments.
It is hoped the virtual world could be used for practically anything from work, play and concerts, to socializing with friends and family. Facebook said it intends to start trading its shares under the new stock ticker MVRS from 1 December.

championing For New Faces and Voices
Kenya needs gentle new faces and voices not recycled recycled ones.
Since independence tokenism has been used to win Kenyans elections or buy elective seats because politicians have made people / voters believe they are demigods of goodies and the people / voters the recipient.
Therefore the end result , the hand that doesn’t giveth is the hand of misleader and the story of vicious cycle poverty is the table menu for every living soul in his republic.
While kenyans struggle to control the future , no one has confidence they have it under control when old faces and voices continue to excite and incite academicians , professionals business people , activists, ordinary people and the media- to media.
What kind of shame is this young people. I kindly ask you young energetic Patriots let’s hold our hands and work together. Let’s Support real leader’s in it.

How One Entrepreneur is Keeping Hope Alive Among Kenyans
Tumblr media
Data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics shows that about 250,000 jobs were shed in the 3 months leading to March 2021. This was despite the economy having showed signs of recovery from the COVID-19 hardships. This report plainly shows that COVID -19 pandemic has been a grim period for workers and businesses indicating the employment sector is trailing   the ongoing economic recovery.
COVID-19 has been a huge setback for the progress on poverty eradication in Kenya. Job losses, food insecurity and impact on social lifestyles has also seen a spike in mental health cases. While many companies were shutting down or down-scaling, there are some companies that always remained fully operational and open. A good example is the Group of Companies founded and chaired by Jayesh Saini, one of the top entrepreneurs in the country.
During the height of COVID-19, Jayesh Saini vowed not to add to the challenges afflicting Kenyans by down-scaling or closing shop, despite the macro economic pressures to do so. This single act to keep his over 3,000 employees employed throughout the pandemic period in his various establishments has been key in ensuring their food security, healthcare and housing for the past one and a half years.
The efforts towards supporting his staff during this difficult time has had a big effect on his companies in terms of the personal toll it has taken to keep them afloat. However, this strain is nothing compared to the far reaching impact this has had on his staff e.g. continuation of education for staff children, effective support in the event of illness through the Bliss Healthcare network and fostering strong relationships at home leading to better mental health. This ultimately leads to better work performance.
We are not out of the woods yet as regards COVID-19, even with the lifting of the curfew recently. However, with emphasis on getting more Kenyans vaccinated and having more affordable health set ups offering quality healthcare like Bliss Healthcare, we shall make it out of this pandemic stronger and better than ever!

Equity Group Strengthens Partnership With PROPARCO Increasing MSMEs
New Post has been published on https://newscheckz.com/equity-group-strengthens-partnership-with-proparco-increasing-msmes/
Equity Group Strengthens Partnership With PROPARCO Increasing MSMEs
As part of the visit to Kenya of the French Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness, Franck Riester, Proparco granted Equity Bank two guarantee facilities, ARIZ and EURIZ totalling €39 million (5 billion KES) to help the Kenyan bank further support job creating MSMEs. Proparco also granted a €550,000 technical assistance facility to support Equity Group Foundation’s health projects. The EURIZ guarantee and the technical assistance grant benefited from support from the European Union and the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States.
Upon completing the signing, Dr. James Mwangi, Managing Director and CEO of Equity Group Holdings Plc. stated that they value the relation.
“Our strong relationship with Proparco is one that we greatly value. Our shared vision for the transformation of lives and livelihoods on the African continent is one we are both committed to. It is this shared mission that continues to support and expand opportunities for wealth creation on the continent for our people, and which will allow Africa to thrive and prosper in the post-Covid economy and underpins our collaborations under the French “Choose Africa” and Equity’s post covid Africa resilience and growth plan,” said DR. Mwangi.
Over the past three years, Proparco and Equity Bank have grown to become strong partners thanks notably to a $22.8 million loan granted in 2019 and a $100 million loan granted in October 2020, both intended to support the Bank’s commitment to Kenya’s MSMEs the actors in the real economy.
On the occasion of the visit to Kenya of the French Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness, Franck Riester, Proparco and Equity further strengthened their relationship by signing two new guarantees and of a technical assistance grant.
The first, a €19,5 million (2.5 billion KES) ARIZ guarantee will cover 50% of the amount of eligible loans allocated by Equity Bank to Kenyan MSMEs.
The second, a €19,5 million (2.5 billion KES) EURIZ guarantee will cover up to 70% of loans granted to women entrepreneurs or to MSMEs in sectors with a high social or societal impact such as Agriculture, Fisheries, Education and Health. Launched in May 2019 with the support of the European Union (EU) and the European Development Fund, and the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), the EURIZ guarantee aims to facilitate access to credit for MSMEs, in particular in sectors with a high development impact, in order to help them play their essential role in economic growth and job creation.
The two guarantees, which amount to a total of €39 million (5 billion KES), are the largest ever granted by Proparco to a financial institution. They both contribute to Choose Africa, the French initiative dedicated specifically to African entrepreneurs, start-ups and MSMEs while supporting Equity’s Africa recovery and growth plan.
Proparco also allocated today a €550,000 (70 million KES) technical assistance grant to the Equity Group Foundation (EGF). This technical assistance, which also benefited from support from the EU and the OACPS, aims to support the development of EGF’s health pillar through several components, including the development of entrepreneurial and management training for Equity Afia’s doctor-entrepreneurs, the implementation of a quality management program within the network and the strengthening of the Equity Afia clinic economic and social model.
“With this 5bn KES guarantee facility for the benefit of hundreds of MSMEs including in high social impact sectors such as agriculture and healthcare, Proparco is very proud to further strengthen its partnership with Equity Bank, one of the leading and most innovative banking groups of Africa. Equity Bank historical and long-lasting commitment to MSMEs makes it a prominent partner of the AFD Group in the roll out of the Choose Africa initiative launched in 2018 by the French Government.”, said Djalal Khimdjee, Deputy CEO of Proparco.
These initiatives will contribute to several Sustainable Development Goals, including #3 (Good Health and Well Being), #5 (Gender Equality) and #8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
“We want to see continued progress for our SME and MSMEs as the world opens up and by working together with partners such as Proparco, the European Union (EU) and the European Development Fund, and the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), we are offering our clients a way to empower themselves while creating economic opportunities for wealth creation for our people”, added Dr. Mwangi.

Notorious Bodaboda Phone Snatchers Lynched By A Mob
Tumblr media
An angry mob has today lynched two notorious Bodaboda Phone snatchers in Buruburu.
The two who had allegedly snatched a phone from a pedestrian along the busy Jogoo Road, were chased by fellow riders before they were interjected at the junction of Rabai and Mumia Roads.
According to their fellow riders, the culprits snatched a phone from a man who was walking before they took off.
Those who witnessed the incident gave them a chase and caught them at the junction of Rabai and Mumia Roads in Buruburu Estate
The riders were then joined by an irritated mob who immediately set the duo on fire at the middle of the road.
The Bodaboda operators accused the phone snatching ring for spoiling their name.
Police arrived at the incident late and couldn’t save the duo.
The angry residents vowed never to report such incidences to police officers urging that it has become a nuisance.
Nairobi police boss, Augustine Nthumbi, however, condemned the act and asked Kenyans not to take law into their own hands.
“As much as these cases have become too much and annoying, I wouldn’t advise anyone to engage in such violent activities. We have police officers, and they are the ones who should implement the law,” Nthumbi said.
The lynching of the two comes at a time when the country has experienced a spike in phone snatching cases, with the criminals going to the extent of grabbing phones from police officers.

Elachi in Trouble Over Illegal Promotion and Employment Of NCA Staff
Tumblr media
Nairobi City County Assembly has called for investigation and Surcharge of former Speaker Beatrice Elachi. This is after she was alleged of illegality in the promotion of 28 staffs when she was at the helm of the Assembly leadership.
In a report tabled in the assembly by Justice and Legal Committee it was revealed that Assembly Service Board then went against the laws in the promotion and recruitment of staffs.
The report cited ethnicity and lack of experience among those promoted and lack of budgetary allocation for the promotions conducted in 2020.
“The creation of offices review of organization structure , promotion of staff and recruitment undertaken do not confine with the law specifically the provision section 37 of the public service commission Act 2017… Organisation Review exercise conducted outside the establishment framework under section 24 (4) of the Assembly Service Act 2017, regulation, guidelines  and policies …the organisation review  are hereby declared, null and void and promotions be revoked or quashed as such in totality.” The report reads.
Speaking during the discussion of the motion, High-rise MCA, Ken Oyugi expressed his surprise on why the board was on rush for the promotion. He accused Elachi of messing up with lives of innocent staff.
“I found out this inquiry has no malice I was wondering what was the hurry to do this promotions…I will recommend that former Speaker Elachi be surcharged because she messed up lives of innocent staffs.” High rise MCA Ken Oyugi told the House.
‘‘Am happy the chair legal has come up with this report. I was also humiliated it was done without following any law and I support this motion fully,” added MCA Osman Adow.
Honourable Mary Arivitza attempted to stop the discussion of the report citing that the court did not bear any fruit with speaker ruling that the said order did not bar assembly from conducting its business.
The committee will now report to the House after 14 days on the implementation progress of the report.
Already panic has engulfed about 28 employees who were promoted during Elachis’ tenure with some now threatening to move to court should County Assembly Public Service Board demote them as recommended in the report.

“If I ran today on a Jubilee ticket and someone else ran on a different party, even if people felt I had performed, it would be hard to convince them to vote for me,” Waiguru said last month.
While Waiguru had remained tight-lipped on her next political move, she had earlier given an indication that she was considering joining the DP Ruto-led political movement.
While addressing members of public at Thiba area in Mwea Constituency last month, the governor asked the crowd whether they would re-elect her as Governor of Kirinyaga County and they responded on the affirmative.
She went ahead to ask them twice on which ticket she should seek re-election and they chanted UDA.
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen how Waiguru will battle it out with her political rival; Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici, who is also in UDA and is seeking to defeat her and become Governor in 2022.

Community Pressure Has Led To Failing Marriages

Community Pressure Has Led To Failing Marriages
Hi;
The month of December sometimes is so harsh for single people.
I once avoided going to the village because the villagers were never getting tired of asking me why I am not married. I was just 26 years and they were treating me like am too old! Well, some of my village mates were already married, one guy got married at 19 and had three children by the time he was 25!
A girl I knew began getting children at 14 and by the time she was 26 (we are age mates) she had 5 children! (Single mother).
Another close friend had just done a church wedding at 25, and at 26, he had a child. (They later got divorced leaving me with questions.)
Guys of my age and above who were still single had to endure numerous questions from village elders. One woman even literally offered to seduce her daughter for me if I had no lines to seduce a woman.
They simply could not understand why at 26, I was still single despite having a stable job. Some even would tell me a woman comes with her blessings and I should get married and see how blessed I will get.
(They were not even quoting the number of men who had married and dumped their wives at that young age!) The villages are harsh for single people around December, I think it is why so many single people, both men and women, opt not to go to the village during December holidays to avoid these numerous questions on why they are still single.
I once saw a girl who was 28 get excluded in a family gathering for being single! Others shamelessly borrow you money and when you tell them you have your plans they shamelessly say “But huna watoto, pesa una peleka wapi?” Some villagers can be so annoying to single people.
This is why of late people are hiring someone to go and lie to the villagers and sometimes parents that they are married!

Simple Advice;
You might be slightly right, but hey we are past that era. I don’t know if it still exists. My reasons among others
1. Finances Our generation unlike our ancestors, are broke and times have changed. Most people are not In a hurry to get married or marry cause of financial constraints, what will I feed my family? How will I take care of my family when needs arise? Some are taking care of the immediate family and starting their own families will mean more burden.
2. The not so serious generation We are a lost generation, hype and everything is our order of the day. Nobody ever is thinking about getting married and settling Most are living for the day by the day, booze, ladies, sponsors, and many other forms of hype.
3. Who? The other question is who will I settle with? Ever looked at your friends and wondered will they ever settle down?
4. Fear. The fear of the unknown that awaits marriage life, nobody is willing to let their habits drop for a different life Some are afraid of finances as stated earlier Some afraid of making the wrong choices Fear of so many things.
If you live your life depended on peoples opinions, you will suffer imagined and unrealistic insecurities. Do you!
All the best.

Sudan's Prime Minister arrested as military takes power in coup

Sudan's Prime Minister arrested as military takes power in coup
Sudan’s military seized power Monday, dissolving the transitional government hours after troops arrested the acting prime minister and other officials.
Thousands of people flooded into the streets to protest the coup that threatens the country’s shaky progress toward democracy.
The takeover comes more than two years after protesters forced the ouster of longtime autocrat Omar al-Bashir and just weeks before the military was expected to hand the leadership of the council that runs the country over to civilians.
After the early morning arrests of Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and other officials, thousands poured into the streets of the capital, Khartoum, and its twin city of Omdurman.
Footage shared online appeared to show protesters blocking streets and setting fire to tires as security forces used tear gas to disperse them.
As plumes of smoke filled the air, protesters could be heard chanting, “The people are stronger, stronger” and “Retreat is not an option!” Videos on social media showed large crowds crossing bridges over the Nile to the center of the capital.
At least 12 protesters were wounded in demonstrations, according to the Sudanese Doctors Committee, which did not give details.
In the afternoon, the head of the military, Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan, announced on national TV that he was dissolving the government and the Sovereign Council, a joint military and civilian body created four months after al-Bashir’s ouster to run the country.
Burhan said quarrels among political factions prompted the military to intervene. Tensions have been rising for weeks between civilian and military leaders over Sudan’s course and the pace of the transition to democracy.
The general declared a state of emergency and said the military will appoint a technocratic government to lead the country to elections, set for July 2023. But he made clear the military will remain in charge.
“The Armed Forces will continue completing the democratic transition until the handover of the country’s leadership to a civilian, elected government,” he said.
He added that the country’s constitution would be rewritten and a legislative body would be formed with the participation of “young men and women who made this revolution.”
The Information Ministry, still loyal to the dissolved government, called his speech an “announcement of a seizure of power by military coup.” Sudan’s government says attempted coup has been foiled.
The international community expressed concern over Monday’s developments.
Jeffrey Feltman, the U.S. special envoy to the Horn of Africa, said Washington was “deeply alarmed” by the reports. Feltman met with Sudanese officials over the weekend in an effort to resolve the growing dispute between civilian and military leaders.
EU foreign affairs chief Joseph Borrell tweeted that he’s following events with the “utmost concern.” The U.N. political mission to Sudan called the detentions of government officials “unacceptable.”
The first reports about a possible military takeover began trickling out of Sudan before dawn Monday.
The Information Ministry later confirmed Hamdok and several senior government figures had been arrested and their whereabouts were unknown.
Hamdok’s office denounced the detentions on Facebook as a “complete coup.” It said his wife was also arrested.
Internet access was widely disrupted and the country’s state news channel played patriotic traditional music.
At one point, military forces stormed the offices of Sudan’s state-run television in Omdurman and detained a number of workers, the Information Ministry said.
There have been concerns for sometime that the military might try to take over, and in fact there was a failed coup attempt in September.
Tensions only rose from there, as the country fractured along old lines, with more conservative Islamists who want a military government pitted against those who toppled al-Bashir in protests. In recent days, both camps have taken to the street in demonstrations.
After the September coup attempt, the generals lashed out at civilian members of the transitional power structure and called for the dissolution of Hamdok’s government.
The Sovereign Council is the ultimate decision maker, though the Hamdok government is tasked with running Sudan’s day-to-day affairs.
Burhan, who leads the council, warned in televised comments last month that the military would hand over power only to a government elected by the Sudanese people.
His comments suggested he might not stick to the previously agreed timetable, which called for the council to be led by a military figure for 21 months, followed by a civilian for the following 18 months.
Under that plan, the handover was to take place sometime in November, with the new civilian leader to be chosen by an alliance of unions and political parties that led the uprising against al-Bashir.
Since al-Bashir was forced from power, Sudan has worked to slowly rid itself the international pariah status it held under the autocrat.
The country was removed from the United States’ state supporter of terror list in 2020, opening the door for badly needed foreign loans and investment.
But the country’s economy has struggled with the shock of a number economic reforms called for by international lending institutions.
Sudan has suffered other coups since it gained its independence from Britain and Egypt in 1956. Al-Bashir came to power in 1989 in one such takeover, which removed the country’s last elected government.
Among those detained Monday were senior government figures and political leaders, according to two officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to share information with the media.
They include Industry Minister Ibrahim al-Sheikh, Information Minister Hamza Baloul, Minister of Cabinet Affairs Khalid Omer, and Mohammed al-Fiky Suliman, a member of the Sovereign Council, as well as Faisal Mohammed Saleh, a media adviser to Hamdok.
Ayman Khalid, governor of the state containing the capital, was also arrested, according to the official Facebook page of his office.
After news of the arrests spread, the country’s main pro-democracy group and two political parties issued appeals to the Sudanese to take to the streets.
One of the factions, the Communist Party called on workers to go on strike after what it described as a “full military coup” orchestrated by Burhan.
The African Union has called for the release of all Sudanese political leaders including Hamdok.
“Dialogue and consensus is the only relevant path to save the country and its democratic transition,” said Moussa Faki, the head of the AU commission.
