Attempt number two. Now it dries overnight and hopefully tomorrow I can glue in the text block.
#the dry fit seems ok#fingers crossed the glue and fabric didn’t do anything weird#honestly not sure about the structural integrity of the cover#but we’re gonna roll with it#everything held together with elmer’s glue and prayers at this point#the elmer’s glue might be part of the problem#but it’s cheap easy materials for practice#I’ll order good glue before I try another#life at nerdy holler#nerdy makes a book

Are all vampires good-looking?
Not to turn into a Wayhaven Chronicles blog, but here’s a very short thing. Think of it as another option in that string of questions you’re allowed to ask Unit Bravo about vampires in Book 1. Featuring my nerdy detective, Avery Lin, and Agents Adam, Nate, Morgan, and Farah.

“Are all vampires good-looking?”
The agents’ heads all snap towards her. Nate’s eyes are wide, lips turned up in an amused smile. Morgan cocks an eyebrow and smirks. Farah’s features appear ready to jump off of her: eyebrows lifted high, a smile stretching her face in every direction, amber eyes aglow. Adam crosses his arms over his chest, eyes narrowed, and she almost misses the way he swallows in what looks like fear.

Didn’t have enough proper board to cut new cover pieces at the right size. Thick cardboard rice box to the rescue.

they'll kill me for this but in the same way that people hc nat to be 6'4 like nate i think adam should be 5'8 which was the average height for men in the middle ages in fact even an inch above average so i'm being genorous.

First non-recoverable fail. I saw a measurement guide that was recommended and was using that for cloth and board sizes. Either I did it wrong (likely) or it wasn’t the right guide for this type of binding, though it looked it like. I did a dry fit and the boards were waaaay too narrow but I had a lot of overlap on the fabric so I tried to rip it apart before the glue dried too much (it already had) to move it over. Even when I did move it to minimal overlap with the fabrics, it was still barely big enough and there was almost no overhang. It also had weird big hinges that way. And the spine paper was too wide.
I have plenty of fabric and heat and bond so I’ll read up on some other techniques and maybe try again after work tomorrow.

Looks like a book though. The wrinkles in the middle are because the grain direction on the paper is wrong. Should be going up and down instead. And I thought buying sketch book paper would get me a small amount of paper going the right direction for cheap. It did not. At least this paper isn’t short grain. Would have been better off sticking with printer paper. At least it would have been the same size and had nicer edges.

There's something really satisfying about using a sniper rifle in Mass Effect 2 when you're romancing Garrus. Because at this point I don't think he's particularly interested in Shepard for her weird human flesh, but you gotta imagine that watching his potential lover take down mercenaries from long range does something for that dude.
