I have been illustrating kids’ storybooks since the late 90s. Since then, I have been dreaming of writing and illustrating my own book. I was greatly inspired by how Dr. Seuss, Tony Ross and Edward Gorey did theirs so I thought to myself why not take a crack at it. I also learned in the process that my stories are not meant for kids.:) The series of stories written as poems was penned in the early years of my illustrating career. The lack of resource and knowledge on how to publish it combined with the greater lack of effort to find ways did not help my poems to see the light of day. Thanks for my discovery of indie comics. It paved the way and gave me the avenue for these stories that has been rotting in my old notebook to slowly take shape. Thanks to the advices from my wife Bru, direk Dodo and boy genius Carljoe Javier and Apol Sta. Maria which gave me my needed encouragement and inspiration to put this book together. This newest offering is actually the blueprint on how the brain fart that is “Ang Alamat ng Chismis” was written. So there, I am glad to present to you the 1st masterpiece (ahem) installment to premiere in this weekend’s Komikon 2015. For my next book project I’m re-illustrating an old children’s picture book I did back in early 2000’s. It ceases publishing a couple of years ago. My publisher thought of resurrecting it and I decided to do a style facelift. The old digital drawings I did before does not impress me anymore. I’m planning to do it all by hand this time. I’m still keeping the character’s main features, adding and subtracting element to keep up with the current look and feel of my present drawings.

Yes, I am happy to be a part of this Saturday's InkFest. And no, it's not a tattoo convention. It's an event by Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan (Ang InK). An organization of illustrators dedicated to children's literature. Our studio Electrolychee and National Gulaman Authority are selling postcards, totes, zines and comics. Seeya!
