Portraits of Chinese Rockstars Imagined as Monumental Temples by DU Kun
Chinese artist DU Kun has long harbored a reverence for music and rockstars. A musician himself, the Beijing-based painter is awed by the creation of music, aspects of fame, and the intangible aura of being a revered rockstar, something he tries to capture is these temple-like portraits of famous Chinese recording artists titled “Revels of the Rock Gods”.
Each oil painting depicts the face of a musician as if it were a temple built in devotion to a god and borrows elements from Buddhist and Confucian architecture. Eyes are depicted as windows, tree branches or waterfalls as flowing hair, and the surface of skin as ornate wood facades gilded with gold.
Kun is currently exhibiting the “Revels of the Rock Gods” series as part of his first solo show in Japan at Mizuma Art Gallery in Tokyo through February 13, 2016. You can explore close-up details plus an archive of Kun’s work on his website. (via Hi-Fructose) and Colossal

Nobelsport produces flashbangs and tear gas grenades used by French law enforcement, and one of their flash bang grenades fired by riot police killed Remi Fraisse a year earlier during protests. wtf is happening; i'm angry and a bit confused; just wanted to tell you that i hope you're okay; what's going on there in france man i just don't get this anymore why is all this shit always happening and why do so many people ignore all this
I’m fine, thanks.
About the recent events:
-On November, 13th, terrorist attacks happened in Paris
-On November, 14th, the state of Emergency has been declared by our President. The state of Emergency allows the executive power (the President and prime minister) to do arbitrary arrests, forbid demos, censure the press and bypass some basic Human Rights in order to achieve more security. Moreover, it allows them to do searchs without any kind of autorisation, may those be searchs on individuals or places.
-On November 15th, the state of Emergency, which is supposed to last no more than 6 days has been extended for a period of 3 months
In less than 10 days, more than 700 arrests and 2,000 searchs in appartments have been done. Also a lot of anarchist squats have been taken over by RAID forces (the french equivalent of the SWAT in the U.S)
Still on that day, our President forbid ALL KIND OF DEMONSTRATIONS in Paris, many town followed this instruction even though they were not concerned by the President’s order
-After that, as the COP21 was approaching, our borders with Germany have been closed due to “the risk of black blocks coming from Germany), loads of eco-activists have been arrested or house arrested, all demos were forbidden, including those for climate change, no exception has been made
-On November, 28th (yesterday), our Prime minister announced they will do their best to extend the duration of the state of emergency for more than 3 months.
-Also a lot of “stupid” laws (as the executive power doesn’t have to ask for the judiciary system to do anything) came in some towns, such as the interdiction to buy alcohol to-go after 8pm in the north of France etc…
- In Nice, south-eastern France a random search with fake informations lead to the traumatisme of a 6 years old kid who was injured during an assault of the Raid (they were totally at the wrong place and they recognized their mistake but said “it was due to the nerves after the terrorist attacks”)
-The refugees are not anymore welcome in France (if they ever were)
To sum up, our “left government” is actually following the political program of the extrem-right wing with a high ambiant patriotism, anti-refugees laws, police enforcement (in the Capital only, more than 11,000 cops and some more military soldiers are in the street JUST for the COP 21, vehicule circulation has been restricted, public transports are overflooded etc…)
Yea, that’s the new France, they took law “against terrorists” and are actually doing their best to silent ANY KIND OF OPPOSITION, may those be for climate, social or whatever changes
Anarchists, eco-activists, communists are actually seen as a danger and squats are destroyed one after the other as they represent a “danger” to the population.

This is the letter from Spielberg, to the then-editor at Heavy Metal, responding to seeing the finished comic book. A hilarious piece of comic AND film history.

Such an honor to have my name attached to this project. A documentary about my friend Jonathan. Jonathan was a huge Moldy Peaches fan. I used to throw these get togethers at my family’s house in Bedford Hills. I invited everyone in my small internet circle but mostly it was just friends from the city that would take the train up. I would make food and we would pass the guitar around. This kid showed up at one. He was bald and pale. His mom was out in the car. She had driven him and stayed until it was over. He told us he was sick. Showed us the stent in his head. Gave us tapes of his wild music. We were friends until he died.
