A couple of logos I recently designed for @idigvinyl This was a really fun project to work on. The logo direction was a girl with her ass out digging through records 😂. This was not without its challenges. For one it had to read a little risqué without being tasteless. I wanted it to fit within a square so it could be easily applied to profile pics, letterhead, promotional lock-ups with sponsors or partners etc. Basically anywhere it needed to be used/printed it’s always easier to do so as a contained shape. The biggest challenge (for me) was having the subtle details of the figure work with as little line-work as possible. Lastly I didn’t use any guides or rulers like I normally would when creating a logo. Nothing is measured. I just drew it by hand and eyeballed the distances, type included. (I did convert it to vector in illustrator but that was really for reproduction purposes). I did this as a nod to the vinyl medium itself. Its analog and imperfect nature is what makes it special. Another project I recently completed was designing a logo for @littlegraythings. Super fun to work on. James is a monster talent and the coolest mf’er so I was honored to be asked to help create this new identity. He’s a phenomenal jeweler and engraver out of Brooklyn and has a thorough background in hip hop culture so I wanted to honor those aspects in the design. Clean and precise but also some life and a hint of that cartoon vibe that’s ever present with graffiti. His first company was called Corvidae so a lot of the early sketches involved crows. Problem was that when I drew a cartoon crow in an homage to the Powell Peralta Ripper it came off as a Jim Crow era racist illustration. Can’t have that. So I adjusted the crow/raven to make it more mine in few other iterations but ultimately felt that if it could possibly be taken in an unsavory manor then best to just scrap it. Once that was decided it made the design process so much clearer. The type driven monogram logo alludes to the graf side of things and the precise construction of it speaks to his process and attention to detail. I’ve been wanting to share this project for a while. Brand identity design for Pave. I met with Nico, one of the founders of the company, in March 2020 right before the pandemic really hit us, to discuss the project. He trusted in me to develop something clean and iconic that spoke to what they were creating; which were exciting, beautiful electric motorcycles that look like a combination of something out of Tron and Mad Max. I wanted the logo to fit that specific aesthetic: the past’s vision of the future. A timeless nostalgic quality to it while also wanting it to feel new and progressive. In addition to the logo I was tasked with designing the website and mobile App. The site has just launched and the App will be following shortly. Working with Nico and his brother Casper on this has been awesome. They are doing something really special with these bikes and their company and I’m happy to play a part in it. I’ve been listening to a lot of @asaprocky lately. Since I first heard him on the @beautifullou produced Trilla he’s always been a bright spot in hip hop. Great ear for production. The great thing about old monster movies is that they’re inventive with their practical effects and ridiculous with their storylines and dialogue. That’s what last year felt like to me - a somehow real life version of a 1950’s monster movie. Horrific things happening almost daily under the leadership of clowns. Everyday I was baffled that it was somehow worse than the day before. While I was illustrating it I was imagining it with sounds and motion to really convey a feeling of chaos and absurdity. With the help of my insanely talented friend @lensstyle I was able to achieve that. And the NFT art space seemed the perfect platform to be able to showcase such a piece.
