you dial the numbers in on your combination lock and open your locker, only for a small blue-colored piece of paper to fall out and drift onto the school’s hallway floor. first, you grab your textbook and binder for your next class and then you look around the hallway before kneeling down to pick up the piece of paper.
you’ve been getting one every day this week for some odd reason but you weren’t sure who was behind this whole scheme. it was the fifth time you had received a colored piece of paper this week. on monday, you had received a red one. on tuesday, orange. wenesday, yellow. thursday, green. and friday, which was today, you got blue.
each piece of paper had a positive, encouraging message that made you smile. wondering what kind words awaited you today, you unfolded the blue-colored paper and read the message. ‘good luck on the math test today!’ was neatly written in black ink. smiling to yourself, you refold the paper back to its original shape and carefully put it in the small compartment in the front of your backpack, which was where you kept the other pieces of paper.
who could it be? you thought long and hard about the possibilities of your secret admirer. it had to be someone who had a locker near yours, right? whoever was writing these notes also had to have pretty neat handwriting.
oh my goodness. how have you not noticed before? was it your locker buddy who was putting the notes in your locker? your locker was next to this cute classmate named jordon. you don’t know them that well but they always lent you their notes when you missed class. jordon was nice. i mean, it made the most sense, right? their locker was right next to yours and they had neat penmanship.
not meaning to, you anxiously slam your locker shut, causing it to make a much louder noise than you thought it would. your heart and your mind was racing as you came to the final decision that were going to confront jordon.
once you were in the classroom, you spot jordon over at their assigned seat. they were doodling in their notebook. you start to make your way towards your unsuspecting locker buddy but that quickly came to an end when you felt your shoulder being tapped on lightly.
“y/n, we need to talk.” you turn around to see minchan with a serious expression on his face. you felt your heart drop to the ground. oh no. were you in trouble? minchan almost never talked to anyone alone unless they did something he needed to report to the teacher.
minchan holds the door open for you, signaling that you go out first. you stand out in the school’s hallway, hastily smoothing down any visible creases on your uniform. after closing the classroom door behind him, minchan turns to face you.
without saying a word, he hands you a purple piece of paper and waits for you to open it. it took a solid ten seconds for things to click in your head. oh? so minchan was the one behind all these slips of paper.
you unfold the paper and read the message in your head. 'are you trash?’ was neatly written on the surface of the paper. well, that was straight up rude. you feel attacked and honestly, quite uncertain of where things were escalating.
“um, what?” you question, furrowing your eyebrows at the seemingly mocking note. you were getting mixed messages. all the other notes minchan left you were so nice and sweet.
to your surprise, minchan smiles shyly. “because i wanna take you out.” what a smooth motherfucker. now it was your turn to be shy.
“i’d like that,” you say as you make a mental note for later to add the purple slip of paper to the collection in your backpack. maybe the class president wasn’t as strict as you thought he was.

summary: yeonho spends his summer days as a part-time barista at a local coffee shop. however, yeonho didn’t realize how he’d always anticipate for you to show up at the coffee shop every day until his co-worker, kangmin, points it out and teases him for it.

“are you looking for that person? again?” upon hearing kangmin’s inquiries, yeonho quickly looks away from the coffee shop’s entrance and pretends to be very focused on wiping the counter with a cloth.
yeonho chooses to ignore kangmin’s words, not wanting to admit that he was in fact, hoping you would walk through that door at any given moment. “hyung, just make a move already,” kangmin whines. “i’m so tired of watching you simp after them.”
“shh, don’t say it that loud! i was just… checking to see if the windows were clean,” yeonho fibs, tossing the towel aside and turning to face kangmin. the younger boy crosses his arms across his chest, watching skeptically as yeonho struggled to keep steady eye contact with him.
kangmin lets out a small sigh, uncrossing his arms and going up to replace yeonho’s spot at the cash register since yeonho had been taking orders for the past hour. “if you don’t make a move on them first, then i’ll do it first,” kangmin says firmly.
the truth was, kangmin didn’t even have the slightest bit of feelings for you. even though kangmin didn’t always outwardly say it, he supported you getting together with yeonho. he just wanted to see yeonho happy, instead of seeing his hyung stressing out over what to say and how to act whenever you stopped by the cafè.
yeonho pretends not to be bothered by kangmin’s lighthearted threat. of course, yeonho was slightly nervous that kangmin would actually do something like that. hopefully, kangmin wouldn’t follow through with his words. “i know you wouldn’t,” was all yeonho could say as he let kangmin have a turn to stand behind the register.
a gust of hot summer air floats into the store for a brief moment as you walk into the coffee shop. you liked to come here very often. you usually came here every day of the week except for sundays. sometimes you would come in the mornings before your classes started, and other times you would come in the evenings to finish up homework here.
you found the atmosphere of this particular cafè cozy and inviting. plus, there were two baristas here that always remembered your name and your order. yeonho and kangmin.
feeling comfortable with the environment, you casually walk up to the counter to place your order. “hi kangmin!” you greet the apron-clad boy with a friendly smile. kangmin flashes back with that charming gummy smile of his. “hey y/n!! just the usual today?” you start to fish out your wallet from the pocket of your jeans. “yes please!”
as kangmin started entering the price for your drink into the keypad of the cash register, yeonho walks out from a door in the back. he had been in the back of the shop, restocking gallons of milk. the moment yeonho notices your presence, he practically scrambles to the register, running up to stand beside kangmin.
“excuse me for a quick second,” kangmin tells you with a smile before he whips around to talk to yeonho. “you’re being so obvious!” kangmin whisper yelled at yeonho. not wanting to hear yeonho’s excuses about why he couldn’t talk to you, kangmin lightly pushes yeonho towards the cash register. “you take this order.” kangmin grabs a medium size cup and starts making your drink.
seeing you standing there in front of him has yeonho’s heart racing. he debates internally if he should try to make you laugh. “how did henry viii like his coffee?” you take out a few paper bills, hand it to yeonho, and put away your wallet before giving all of your attention to him. you think for a moment before giving up. “i don’t know, how?
"decap." you giggle politely. yeonho tried his best to ignore the snickers that came from behind him. he didn’t even have to turn around to know that it was kangmin. because honestly, who else could it be?
kangmin appears from behind yeonho, putting a hand on yeonho’s shoulder, and his other hand holding your finished drink. "wow, hyung!! you’re so funny! i’m wheezing right now! hahaha!!” yeonho makes a mental note to tickle attack kangmin after their shift ended.
yeonho takes the finished drink from kangmin and writes your name on it with a black sharpie. as you were patiently waiting for your beverage, you wonder why he was taking so long to write on the plastic cup. after a minute, yeonho hands you your dalgona coffee topped with crumbled graham crackers, just the way you liked it. “enjoy!”
you thanked the two boys and left them a generous tip. as you were leaving the counter and heading towards the door to leave, you didn’t fail to catch how kangmin was punching yeonho’s shoulder. they were probably just playing around or something.
once you were outside, it occurred to you that you hadn’t checked what yeonho had written on the cup. curiously, you hold your cup up to eye level. on the cup, ‘call me? xxx-xxx-xxxx’ was written in yeonho’s handwriting.
you honestly couldn’t decide if yeonho or the drink was sweeter.
