Okay but like if you interpret the Bride as an extension of Herbert she is both a literal representation of his work in reanimation as well as a symbolic representation of his emotions.
The scene where Herbert offers Meg’s heart to Dan is generally interpreted as romantic because of the obvious visual language of Herbert offering Dan a heart, right? Like I don’t think it’s a stretch to say Meg’s heart represents Herbert’s heart in that moment.
So let’s say that symbology continues and from this point on Meg’s heart symbolizes Herbert’s.
So then I interpret the Bride as Herbert’s repressed feelings taking physical form. Which is why the Bride is immediately drawn to Dan, she clings to him, looks at him longingly, insisting “you made me.” Herbert continues to argue that he make her.
The Bride, being Herbert’s emotions embodied, sees Dan as her origin story, he’s what her world revolves around. She clings to Dan and cowers from Herbert because all Herbert has ever done is repress his emotions, Herbert has no love for his emotions and his emotions have no love for him.
She is also, like Herbert, insanely jealous and protective of Dan, and hostile towards Francesca.
When she lashes out in this anger Dan calls her a “monster” and Herbert calls her “an assembly of dead tissue.” Herbert’s statement is telling of how Herbert sees his own emotions. He’s chosen to convince himself that his heart is just another body part. But I think Dan’s words cut deeper.
Being accused of being a monster because of his feelings is a closeted gay man’s worst nightmare. She had hoped that with this female body maybe Dan could finally love her, but when he rejects her body as well she doesn’t know what to do with herself. She isn’t Meg, she’ll never be Meg. In the end she tries to give Dan what she thinks he wants. Back to square one, Meg’s heart. When that doesn’t work it destroys her and she destroys herself.
thinking about how in bride of reanimator, if the bride had made it to the living room/if dan called herbert's name just a little later, herbert would've successfully killed dr.hill (again) and possibly wouldn't have died
