A Public Thanks to Rebecca Sugar, the Crewniverse, and Steven Universe
I told Y’all that if I posted it’d be Steven Universe, didn’t I?
I’ll start this with an anecdote; back in 2012, I was pissed off that Steven Universe was going to exist.
Back then, all I knew was that Adventure Time’s best songwriter was leaving the show, not even realizing that aforementioned songwriter was going to create her own beautiful story.
It doesn’t help that my brain created an absolutely silly plot of what the show MIGHT have been based on its first trailer, about a boy named Steven that got the Universe Gem stuck in his bellybutton, and that said gem’s guardians now had to teach Steven how to use it to save the world.
I didn’t think I’d get a proper story.
A story of loss.
A story of being found.
A story that was both a sprawling space opera and an intimate family drama
A story of trauma, and how it can be mended.
A story of redemption. Of how we can become better so long long as we want to be. A story that says that no matter how long it may take, we can walk a path to make amends,
A cacophonous harmony of music and a chilling study of silence.
A story that’s helped me create bonds of friendship and strengthen bonds of blood.
A story of love. The TRUE kind of love. Not just romantic, not just familial, but just... love. The kind of love you can’t put a proper label behind.
An incredible muse that forever shaped the stories I write, both fanfiction and my few original stories.
A show that helped me discover who I truly am.
Socially, as a hardcore introvert who found the comfort of friendship after decades with none.
Spiritually, as someone who now can see the beauty in the world, even in the face of melancholy and destruction.
Sexually/Romantically, as someone who who realized they’re aromantic, and was able to know that that’s okay, even while living in a society that deems getting married and being in romantic love as its “true” kind of love.
I can never properly thank Rebecca Sugar, Crewniverse, the voice actors, the editors, the background artists, the composers, NONE OF THEM, for what they’ve given me. But I nonetheless want to put forth my thanks, because they’ve truly changed my life for the better. They created something so beautiful it’s upon my skin, for God’s sake.
So...
Thank You. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.

For helping e become who I am today.
