Classic album (sub-par beats) pt.5 When it comes to street music, these guys have it down to a science. Especially coming from that shiny suit Bad Boy "image" they had to endure. But these DMX leftover beats man! I can't even play this too loud, it can sound mad off. Still a potent LP nonetheless

Classic album (sub-par beats) pt.4 Even with the fast paced tempo and all, Rakim Allah never lost the finesse. That being said, Jazz rap has just been done a lot better. Large Professor & Paul C set the bar high on their contribution on Let the Rhythm Hit 'Em.

Classic album (sub-par beats) pt.3 When the first single came out, i was amped up from the jump. How well that sick ass beat fit with Jigga's braggadocio bars is just incredible. I copped that as soon as it came out. But the rest of that tired ass production man.. It's like they were making an actual cinematic interpretation but with not as much potency as the initial joint in my humble opinion. The movie drops were tight though.

Classic album (sub-par beats) pt.2 This LP sounds like a Dead Prez mixtape than a Nas album, but the don still had mad quotables. The song that definitely let me down the most is the one he speaks on Obama n whatnot, the one that samples Pac 🤔.. Still better than most, but i wasnt into the beats

Classic album (sub-par beats) pt.1 Lyrically this mildly conceptual gem is a one of one. When it comes to originality, dope cadence & skillful wordplay (especially for a commercial release) this LP stands out. This is one of a few classics - with mostly sub-par beats - i'd like to highlight this week.

2014 Personal Choice Hip-Hop Albums of the Year
  1. Freddie Gibbs & Madlib - Cocaine Piñata
The undisputed top gun for the year is no doubt this g'd up fusion of street sophistication with off kilter soul sampled joints.
2. Royce Da 5' 9'' & DJ Premier - Prhyme
Straight bars and impeccable beats chopped from a wide selection of the incomparable Adrian Younge pieces.
  3. Flying Lotus - You're Dead
Masterful musical journey about the after life. Genius level artistry right here.
4. Black Milk - If There's Hell Below
This is an incredibly enjoyable piece filled with Black's signature synth and soul instrumentals laced with even better storytelling. It also has some honorary guest appearances by some of underground hip-hop's elite.
  5. Big K.R.I.T. - Cadillactica
Apart from Outkast and UGK, I'm not really into the southern region's interpretation of things. But this shit right here is dope as hell. New age Organized Konfusion with dope rhymes, what more can one ask for???
  Honarable Mentions:
Step Brothers (Alchemist & Evidence) - Lord Steppington
Isaiah Rashad - Cilvia Demo
Pharoahe Monch - PTSD
Joe Budden - Some Love Lost EP
Logic - Under Pressure
Run The Jewels - Run the Jewels 2 (this is actual my no.1 but it's on everyone's list. Shit bangs)
J Cole - 2014 Forest Hills Drive
