What’s something you think people often miss/forget about Barbie the character?
oh my god okay!! I'll apologize if I don't answer exactly what you asked but i have so many things that I think about so often (other people have talked about it before.
- I think people forget how mature and human barbie was even when she was in Barbieland! sometimes I feel like we see Barbie as a helpless or naive girl and she's definitely not!
- I feel like we don't talk enough about how Barbie was literally having such oppressive feelings about death and depression, if you've ever had to deal with depression/death you know how distressing it is just to exist.
- She definitely sabotages herself all the time! We see her with distressing feelings and then a guy steals her whole identity and makes it look like it's her fault and in the end SHE apologizes to HIM.
The thing that is striking me the most about this album is just how messy and human it is. She’s not holding anything back or trying to appear one way or another. She’s just letting it all out regardless of what anyone might say. She found that trying to be polished and keep all the ugly, imperfect, human stuff in to be stifling and just said fuck it I need to do this for me. This album was an exorcism for her.
Barbie, to Gloria: When I said Netflix and chill I meant Netflix and chill. Stop trying to kiss me. Watch this conspiracy theory documentary or get out.
