"everybody hates me" factoid actually just a statistical error. The average person doesn't hate you, especially not your friends. You, a person who sits in your room experiencing self loathing every day, are an outlier adn should not have been counted.

When your entire family is so awful that you don't want to have a wedding. Like there is no point if there's no one to invite. And they'll get pissed off if you only invite friends. Just dysfunctional family things.

There’s an interesting dichotomy between the malefic deliberateness of your abuser and the involuntary compulsiveness of your stalker.
What episode four does is that, for the first three episodes, you ask ‘Why is he indulging this person?’ But when you realise what he’s been through, by the time [Martha] comes through the doors at the end of episode four and does that big smile that only Jess can do, you think ‘Thank God, Martha’s back.’ And you understand why Donny indulged her… I wanted to show what Darrien did was perniciously evil whereas Martha’s behaviour came from a place of deep vulnerability.

Baby Reindeer also details your experience as a victim of sexual violence. At the end of the show you directly confront your abuser. Events do not play out as expected. Why did you choose to portray that scene?
I think that was almost the most truthful scene of the entire show. What abuse does is it creates psychological damage as well as physical damage… Abuse leaves an imprint. Especially abuse like this where it’s repeated with promises. There’s a pattern where a lot of people who have been abused feel like they need their abusers. I don’t think it was a cynical ending, it was showing an element of abuse that hadn’t been seen on television before, which is, unfortunately, the deeply entrenched, negative, psychological effects of attachment you can sometimes have with your abuser.

What makes Baby Reindeer so compelling is the way it shines a light on some of society’s darkest issues without being overly moralising or polemical. I remember talking with the executive producer about my role as a consultant. That when reviewing the scripts, my job wasn’t to help them make the most “politically correct” show (nor did he want that). It was about giving space for complexity, nuance and, ultimately, reality. One uncomfortable reality the show gives us is that Donny only starts to question his sexuality and explore his queerness after Darrien’s assaults. Are we supposed to pretend that abuse doesn’t sometimes precede a person coming out and into their queerness? That the widespread misuse of G among gay and bi men isn’t happening right now up and down the country?
The reception I’ve seen to Baby Reindeer so far tells me audiences, and especially queer viewers, are crying out for TV that challenges and confronts us. But it’s also up to us to take what we learn from the small screen and start talking about the uncomfortable realities projected back at us.
Baby Reindeer strikes a painful chord for gay and bi men, and I know why: grooming and rape are common by Jeffrey Ingold

This is just gonna be me yelling into the void but!! peoples reactions to ‘baby reindeer’ are pissing me off and its so obvious they don’t understand CPSTD!!! ‘omg why did he try to relive his trauma’ ‘why did he go back to his groomer’ ‘hes a weirdo for getting off to his stalker’ these are all totally common reactions to sexual trauma!!! shakinf you by the shoulders.. saying shit like that is only reinforcing to the people who have experienced similar and related to that show that their trauma reactions are gross or make them stupid or a bad person. grooming and sexual trauma fuck you up real bad!!! its normal to act irrationally or in a way which makes the situation worse!! its common to try to re-experience it to try to take control! and its still! never! their! fault! screams!
