Sex is important.
Not as important as allosexuals would like you to believe. Sex education, sexual health, communication around sex, all very important. Topics that are under discussed in Ameican society, as well as many others.
But when people try to say that the only true moment of happiness, true human connection, bliss, magic, etc etc, that's where I call bullshit.
People crave intimacy. Humans are social creatures. Sex is one form of intimacy. It is not the end all be all. It's important to people, yes. It brings people joy, yes. But that's not the only act that forms intimacy.
For me, there is something so unique and beautiful and magical about performing on stage I've been in musicals, I've been in basements, I've done musicals, Shakespeare, I've performed a lot. And the rush you get on stage and after. While performing and connecting with the people on stage and in the audience? Magic.
But not everyone wants to perform. In fact, a lot of people don't. Many people have stage fright. Does that mean they need to go to an audition right now to feel what I feel? No!! Because happiness looks different for individual people. And instead of treating sex as some sort of special but taboo act, let's treat it as a normal activity that brings people joy.
Let's talk in the open about it. What you like and what you dislike. About how to be healthy and happy in a sexual relationship. How to respect boundaries and have honest conversations about consent.
Sex is not a secret and it isn't special to everyone. We need to be honest about it and respect people's wishes about participating or not participating in sex.
