The first Deadly Premonition game. Perfect blend of awful and hilarious.
I can now stream again so the question is what to stream.
How about a stream where I torture myself by playing some awful game and setting a minimum progression requirement?

I suppose I’d be just as glib about my cognitive dissonance if the net worth of the platform I’m representing dropped from $1.1 billion to a mere $3 million.
I’m sorry, but you cannot tell me the same staff that just did a Q&A with a literal astronaut for this site are the same ones who are linking us to the Dr. Phil M&M x Guy Fieri OTP blog.

I can almost hear “Space Age Love Song” in the background, as Luz fights with the monster. Fuck, I love this comic strip.

I’ll also add Krem from Dragon Age: Inquisition, a six year old game by this point. He’s well characterized, has a backstory and is never fetishized or othered by other characters or the manner in which the game introduces him. I really love the dynamic he and Iron Bull have throughout the story. It’s not ground-breaking by any measure but even compared to that, Cyberpunk 2077 is pitiful, to put it mildly. Hardly the “gold standard for trans representation“.
Ads featuring trans people, 2 trans side characters, trans flags, being able to have female pronouns and a dick at the same time,... Name a AAA game with better representation. Cyberpunk is the gold standard for trans representation all things considered. I am not saying it's enough (character creation could be better) but they are doing more than other developers
Ads featuring trans people
You mean fetishized depictions of trans people
2 trans side characters
Side characters? Why that’s almost something that actually matters!
being able to have female pronouns and a dick at the same time
Yet your pronouns are locked to your voice for no discernable reason.
Name a AAA game with better representation
Placing first in a contest that nobody else entered isn’t a fucking achievement.
Cyberpunk is the gold standard for trans representation all things considered.
If your “gold standard” is being fetishized and pidgeonholed. Get some real fucking standards and STOP DEFENDING A GAME MADE BY AN ABUSIVE PUBLISHER!
Cyberpunk isn’t the gold standard of anything. It’s a steaming, rotten, sun-baked, oozing piece of shit that barely qualifies as a video game. Considering what was done to the employees over at Seedy PR, it should qualify as a crime against humanity.

Bleghhh...
If this vomit-inducing idea crossed the mind of a sane person, they’d take a long bath out of shame and quietly smother the thought. Instead, someone not only drafted a script for this cursed ship but recorded themselves reading it and put in the effort to edit a whopping 14-minute long video on YouTube.

You ever wonder how a YouTuber can get all the way through producing a video and never once think "Hang on, maybe I shouldn't?"
Because I think about it. I think about it a lot.

But I really appreciate how, in an era where every villain has to have this complex tragic backstory that’s often poorly written and has the audience siding with abusers, Infinity Train said, “Here’s a character with a tragic backstory that does not excuse his abusive actions, he had a chance to redeem himself but he continued to hurt others, let’s kill him” and then in the same week, The Owl House went in the opposite direction and said, “Here’s a character who did something awful, not because of a tragic backstory, she just made an impulsive petty move without thinking of the consequences, it happens, let’s hope she acts better.”
What amazing choices. What amazing writing.
Animation is changing and I’m living for it.

Something I’ve noticed about ‘Lumity’
The thing I love most about the Luz x Amity pairing (besides being an explicit LGBTQ romance in a children’s cartoon) is that the character shown having a crush and acting all flustered whenever they meet their love interest isn’t the protagonist! Think about it: conventional storytelling would depict Luz, (not so) secretly pining after Amity, while Amity would be the oblivious target of Luz’s affection. It might seem like a small thing but simply switching these roles made this dynamic feel fresh and interesting.

What bigots actually mean when they're upset over representation is "It's annoying enough you have to exist in the real world, now you have to be in my books/movies/TV shows/games?" Even the very VERY few openly LGBTQ characters still have to deal with being labeled some kind of "Mary Sue" when they're not outright killed or suffering.

Wait, there were Reylo fanfics BEFORE The Last Jedi was released in theaters? People actually shipped Rey with that angsty slimeball THAT long ago?! Ughh...
I feel like I knew that Star Wars was going to pander to Reylo fans when in The Last Jedi, where they copied and pasted Snokes death scene word for word from a smutty Reylo fanfic. I remember being in the theater and I was like "why is this so famili- OH SHIT!"
I’m sorry WHAT?!

And with that announcement, YT has already been flooded with the usual brand of screeching rants and disingenuous assertions, all because Brie Larson had the audacity to dismiss the opinion of 40-year-old white dudes about a movie that one time. Clearly, such deep wounds have yet to heal for these sensitive marshmallows.

Did you hear? Brie Larson's started her own YouTube channel and her first video has her and iJustine gushing over Nintendo Switch, it's so wholesome!

Scarlemagne is perhaps the most compelling antagonist in a kids show I’ve seen in a long while. He was menacing and hilarious in season 1 but season 2 added some much needed depth and tragedy to his story. He’s also a perfect example on how to write a sympathetic villain who hasn’t yet crossed the Moral Event Horizon as to become utterly irredeemable. Yes, his actions are still quite reprehensible (I mean, it’s kinda hard to sugarcoat slavery), but the kind of damage he has inflicted is one that can be undone, unlike, let’s say, a galaxy-wide genocide committed by villains of some other shows I won’t name, who barely get a slap on their wrist by the end.
His relationship with Kipo was also heartwarming. Scarlemagne seems to relish the idea of having a sister and is taken aback by her kindness and the affection she shows him - you can see a wide array of facial expressions when Kipo hugs him after he lashes out at Lio, from confusion, to disbelief to even more confusion. Kipo’s gift goes even further and we see he doesn’t blame her for his misfortune. This culminates with the coronation scene where he tries to return Kipo’s kindness with a gift of his own. Unfortunately, because of his abusive upbringing and still feeling hurt by Lio abandoning him, Scarlemagne believes that the only measure of worth is being chosen over anyone else. It’s no wonder then that his gift turns out to be little more than a trolley choice.
L.E: Because someone in the comments mentioned PTSD in regards to Scarlemagne’s victims, I feel the need to clarify. When I say redemption I’m mostly referring to what Scarlemagne can do to make amends, starting with the obvious: releasing the humans from enslavement. But in the end, no matter how much he apologizes, the people he’s wronged do not owe him forgiveness. This is a key aspect of the abuser-abused dynamic that a lot of writers don’t really get because of this absolutist belief that forgiveness should be granted regardless of the severity of the crime and the mental scars inflicted. The onus should NEVER be put on the victims. This is why I briefly mentioned the genocidal villains that some kids shows these days are very fond of - those villains do not deserve redemption. Genocide isn’t something you can hand-wave as a minor whoopsie. Slavery is also up there as one of the most severe crimes (and Scarlemagne should definitely stand trial for it) but at least the slaves can be freed and counseled - corpses cannot.
TLDR; Redemption is only possible when fixing your mistake is still in the realm of possibility, and even if you succeed you are not owed a pat on the back.
