Day 4,5&6: Bulky, radio& blade
“….zz… In other news, two people have been missing on recent report by Sheriff Midton… zz..zz”
“Darn this old junk never work! Might as well dump it out in trash” A frustrated male struggled to twist the broken knob jammed to the left side “Oh come on, work you piece of garbage!”
The rouge machine was clearly trying the patience of him, squeakily grumbling against the twisting force. Craig was this close to throw the rusty radio through the window if he can’t switch to his favorite morning show. A “Plop” sound was heard when the turning comes off as Craig growled directly at the poor outdated device.
“Piece of junk! Not a thing works anymore!”
There go his good morning, Craig muttered while biting his toast and putting on his jacket. Without “Jack the Bumpernickel”, he couldn’t even sit at home peacefully to enjoy breakfast. Rummaging the couch for his keys, Craig cursed himself for not putting it on the drawers and probably going to waste half of the morning looking for “dem jingles”.
*Knock Knock*
“Mr. Krimel? Are you home?”
Craig looked up from the table “Just a sec, darn jingles!”
Searching but no avail, he gave up and went for the door.
It opened, showed a young girl in a thick fur coat with red mitts and scarf. A small wool hat covered most of her hair but some got out. Pink face lit up with a toothy smile as blue sapphires gazed up to Craig.
“I had a day off! There is a lot of snow at school so mama told me I don’t have to go to school!” she beamed “I thought I could hang out at your place!”
“How much snow was it that they let ya skip school?” He raised an eyebrow at the petit figure in front of him
Following the direct where the youngling pointed, Craig peeked out to see his truck sank in 5 inches snow, the top was covered in thick white. Groaned in agitation, he knew this day was gonna be sour the moment that radio roared his last glory buzz before going into deathbed. With this weather, driving isn’t an option so either he spent another hour shoveling or walked to Bernie’s to get his stereo fixed.
Wait a minute…
“Emma, did ya tell ya mom that ya here with me?”
Little Emma has already snuck through the wooden door and into the living room to play with Hoppers – the old German shepherd sleeping peacefully next to the fireplace.
“I snuck out through the gate! Momma wouldn’t mind!” Craig frowned
‘This didn’t sound like it’s gonna be good…”
As predicted, his phone rang from the other room. Rushed to pick up, Craig prepared himself for a tantrum from the other line.
“Craig! For godsaken, is Emma at your place!?! She isn’t in her room and I’ve looked everywhere!! Oh please tell me she’s at your house!” the frantic voice of a female bursted louder even though it’s not on speaker
“S’alright, Jane. She’s here. Little squirrel must have forgot to tell ya. Don’t worry, I’ll drop her at yours on the way.”
“Oh thank you so much!! What a relief! Can you put her on so I can talk to her?”
“Later, Jane. You can have a talk with her when she’s back, ‘kay?” He hung up
Head into the living room, Craig saw a very happy Emma rubbing old Hopper grumbling on his bed. Emma is daughter of a florist in town, who likes hanging out with the lumberjack than with her friends around her age for some reasons. Despite living over a mile from the town, this little girl will find her way on his front porch whenever she got a chance. It’s not the first time Jane – her mother, call Craig of her daughter whereabouts.
“Alright kiddo, let’s go. I got a radio to fix and I ain’t letting ya stick around here” Craig whistled “Come on Hopper boy”
“We’re going to Mr. Porter workshop?! Woohoo! Come on Hopper!” Emma ran to get his leash, too familiar with the surrounding.
The old man put on a scarf, gazed at the cigarettes on the table with lighter. ‘Kid’s here, can’t smoke or damn well Jane will give me an earful’
Emma, accompanied by Hopper, was excitingly waiting at the door. She gave him her scarf, saying that “Doggie might get sick!” but Craig already put a different one on her before they went out.
“Looks like we’ll have to walk to town. Are ya down for some boot in the snow, kid?” Emma perked up
“I’m always down! Let’s go!”
 __________________________________________________________
The town sparkled in the cold white powder, stores lit in warm yellow lights. Emma ran up ahead with Hopper to join some kids playing in the snow. A few townsfolk were cleaning up snow on the street as well as those piled in front of their shops. Craig told Emma to stay near the town square while he went to Bernie’s. The little one nodded before running off joyfully with the hound. Craig turned his heel and headed towards the wooden store on the left side of the square, Bernie’s Workshop.
The floorboard creaked as the heavy man stepped in, bell chimming woke the sleep male at the counter. Bernie Porter was Craig’s good friend back in the days, but after the incident that cost him his leg, he retired and opened a workshop in town. His shop originally sells weapons for hunters but with people’s demands in fixing household appliances went up, he decided to change it into a workshop, even sells some others tools which earns him quite decent. It’s winter so his orders pile up on fixing heaters, stored up quite a few in the back. Craig went up to counter to greet his friend.
“How ya doin’, old bud? See ya got quite a lot orders here ‘round the cold weather”
“Crappy weather I tell ya! Mah’ knee ain’t lovin’ this icy breeze, crampin’ up and gave me hella hard time!” Bernie scratched behind his ear and put on a worn trapper “Ain’t got no idea why people keep messin’ around with the heater, if ya broke it, better just buy new. What ya got there?”
“Ah, the old rusty bastard broke. Thinkin’ ya might give it a try” Craig put the radio on the counter, along with a singular turner
Bernie gave it a look, grunted in disapproval while taking the whole thing apart. The inside is all dusty and the inner weren’t looking too good. Craig left his friend doing his job while taking a look around. Most of the weapons for hunting seasons have been put away, instead there are tools and materials for multiple purposes. A sharp gleam caught his attention in the corner of the shop. Thick wooden haft, clean-edge blade shone in his eyes. Craig picked up, felt the smooth pine handle and lightness on his palm. It’s been years since he last held an axe this nice, it gave out a homey sensation, so familiar to him.
“She’s a beauty, ain’t she?” Bernie spoke up “Careful now, she’s sharp enough to split a hair. Interested?”
“Hard to resist, I can say. But ya know I don’t do axe no more. I ain’t got the gist like before” Craig admired it before carefully leaned it back to the corner
“You ain’t got the gist? Strong as a grizzly, you ain’t fooling me. I may lose a leg but not an eye” Bernie cackled while twisting the screws.
It’s true that despite being in his 50s, Craig still looks like he’s in his prime. Body stone stiff and bulky, tall like a pine tree. It would be a joke to think that the lumberjack couldn’t handle an axe.
“Maria never likes me leaving these at home. Said it ain’t good if Nancy found them”
Bernie glanced up “Maria ain’t minding that, I’m sure. Holding on to old things ain’t good for ya, Krimel”
“You do you, Bern. Ain’t have to worry ‘bout me” Craig snickered “How’s mah thing? Can ya get it to work?”
“Can’t say I haven’t tried. This thing is a sight for a sore eye. I could always get ya settle on something better...” Dull eyes answered Bernie “…but I’ll see what I can do for the time being”
“Thanks, old pal. I swing by next week to check on it” Bernie waved at his friend as he disappeared behind the snow curtain.
Bernie returned to his work, baffled on how he’s going to get materials for such outdated radio model. “I’ll be damn if I can find where to get quadcoil to fix this wreckage”
On the side carved an inscription ‘For my beloved, Maria Fall”

Passion
Day 1&2: Fish & Wisp
Fish – such a fascinating creature
It was Olivia’s first passion as well as pet
When she was seven, her dad took her and her sister to the aquarium downtown.
It was magnificent, she said
It was like a different world, she said
Engulfed by a singular color blue, she was mesmerized by all the moving little diamonds around her
Colorful scales glimmered in the tank lights, felt like thousands stars on the sky
They moved oh so gracefully, bubbles curved along their fins
It was like a water dance.
That was at least ten years ago, little Olivia has already turned into a beautiful young woman who is passionate about the ocean life, specifically sea creatures. Fascinated by them, she indulged hours in books on her dad’s shelves and pursued her dream to become, well, quoted on quote “Fish”.
Fish is a peculiar animal. They live in water and absorb oxygen through their respiration system which is the gills. Their body is covered in scales worked as camouflage, protection and swimming aid. Their fins flutter through the current as they sway their body elegantly. What could possibly better than being a fish, swimming freely in the water blue?
“I prefer whale better” Janet voiced her opinion out loud
“What? That swimming elephant? No way!” Olivia eyed her friend in disbelief “That’s not even a fish!”
“It’s a sea creature too so it sorta counts. Also, FYI, that is super mean. That’s probably equivalent to pointing out someone is obese in fish language.” Janet rolled her eyes, continued eating her lunch
“Whale and dolphin are mammals, so not a fish. Beside, would you really want to be a whale? Big, giant blue whale?”
“Uh, whale is my spiritual animal, therefore, yes I’ll be the big giant and BEAUTIFUL blue whale” a glare was directed right back to Olivia “At the very least, I won’t get eaten by other species”
“Other than human, sure!” Olivia sipped her water “You do know that a fair amount of whale was hunted for meat and oil in the past right?”
“Whale hunting was a thing?”
“Yeah, it was like a thing back in 1800s. Products made from whale, mainly oil, are incredibly valuable. A barrel of sperm-whale oil can even went up to 1500$ per barrel” Olivia shrugged “But it wasn’t used much nowadays because many better resource appeared: like Kerosene, vegetable oil, petrol”
“Uh huh, you know a lot about whale for someone who just insult it” Janet smirked upon her “You like whale too, don’t you ~”
“Said the one who have their nose in Moby Dick like twenty times or something. I only know some of the basic thing about whale”
“Hey, that book is a masterpiece! Brave men against the nature! Battling fearlessly! Unlike you and you’re fish tank obsession.”
Olivia couldn’t bother to say back. It’s true that she’s have an itsy bitsy infatuation with fish, but she couldn’t explain it why she adores them that much. Some have told her she could become mermaid like those performs in aquarium shows but Olivia refused. Even though it was her dream to become of them, she absolutely hates mermaid/merman in generally because mermaid doesn’t swim like a fish does, according to her logically research. Since mermaid have different anatomy, their swim movement is up-and-down, which isn’t the normal side-to-side like fish does. In addition to that, mermaid eats fish, explained her dislike towards becoming one. She understood that it’s normal to pray on one to another in the animal kingdom but she cannot stand the idea of feasting on such pretty shiny thing. ‘I mean people might have evolved enough to even eat gold but not diamond, right?’
It’s not the first time she realized turning into a fish is practically impossible. Despite her fascination of the marine life, she apparently have Thalassophobia, which prevents her from any activities near the open water. It was upsetting to Olivia, having to spend her life in pictures capturing a small part of the vast water part. It’s like try to play puzzles with endless pieces and they all have the same shade of color. No amount of therapy could help her reach the board of the ship, the closest she could ever get is the lightly wet sand shore. Moreover, there’s an unexplainable feeling when she reaches the ocean, she hears it whisper her name in sad serenity. And on a more frightening term, it always seems to seep closer and closer to her.
“Livvy? You’re spacing out again. Come on, we’ll be late for class” she snapped out of her daze, turn to see her friend already finished packing her belongings
Checking her phone, 2:45 and her class started at 3, she needed to hurry.
“Oh I almost forgot. You’ll come to the Jake’s party this evening, right?”
“Beach party? Not so sure, you know how I feel about it”
“It’s just on shore. I’ll be there too. Don’t worry, if anyone tries to drag you near the water then they’ll have to go through me” Janet smirked. Three years in Aikido is enough to take anyone down, not to mention she was a three times champion of the city, as if that isn’t intimidating enough but it ensures Olivia enough to have a good time by the sand.
“But this evening already? I thought it’s on 13th?”
“Today is the 13th, Goldfish. Did you fall head over heel for Jake so far that you forgot to check for the actual date?”
“I might have mistaken a Friday for a Saturday. But that doesn’t make me a goldfish! And goldfish have good memory! The five seconds attention span is a myth!” Olivia exclaimed
“I guess your attention span is probably so filled with Jake that you can only remembered that he has invited you~”
The two kept bickering as they walked each other to class, like all the other days.
It was around eight when Olivia and Janet arrived at the party, and it sure is a lively one. The torch lit up the area but it was no match to the people’s dancing along the live music band. Sound of chatters mixed with the awry waves of the sea like a symphony. Olivia immediately spotted Jake in the crowd by the barbecue, greeting newcomers and grilled the ribs with his cheerful expression bright like sunlight. Janet could guess what millions thoughts going through her bestie’s mind as she pulled her over to the food court.
“Hey Jake, nice buns you got there. Mind if we have a taste?” Jake laughed wholeheartedly
“Why I wouldn’t mind you two lovely ladies to have a taste of my delicious buns, of course!” A wink sent towards them as Olivia reddened
“I-I-I brought some cakes from Rosie’s! A-And I think it’s a great party!” Jake took the box from Olivia and gave both of them a small dish
“I love Rosie’s cake! This is great for desert! Thanks Olivia!”
And needless to say, Janet had to play the waitress and lead a very blush female to a table while holding two dish of steak.
“Oh Janet! Did you see him smiling at me? He’s so nice!” Janet have a gulp of soda after settling down and listening to her friend’s love rant.
“Eat your steak Olivia or I’ll help you know how it’s like to be fish”
“Alright, no need to do that. I’m not some toddler, you know” Olivia sulked and cut a piece
Olivia notice a newspaper left next to her seat, seemed like it was today’s news. Curious, she decided to have a look since Janet had went to get a second plate.
“BREAKING NEW:  SUCCESSFULLY FOUND THE ONLY SURVIVOR OF THE S.S HARVEY INCIDENT
Olivia Breston, eldest daughter of the Breston family and a bright student at Morrington University, was discovered barely breathing and unconscious on floating remains of the unfortunate ship by the fishermen of Devonne port. Lifeboat was sent immediately to revive and take Olivia to the closest hospital. 17h28 of 13th October, we received news …”
‘No way. Olivia… Breston… That’s… that’s my name!? I… I am dead?’
Janet returned back with a joyful meal in hand.
“Man! Jake sure have a knack for cooking! You’re a lucky one, Olivia!” Olivia didn’t respond, still deep in shock “Olivia?”
Olivia handed her the paper. Janet frowned before realization hit her. Surprisingly, she’s quite calm to react.
“So you found out. Any memory came back?”
Olivia shivered, shook her head.
“I survived, did I? So why… am I here? On this day, I was supposed to be found? But no?”
Janet moved next to her, sat down and comforted the confused girl.
“Do you want to know? Truly want to know?”
A silence between made the air thickened before Olivia gave a nod, reluctantly. Janet rubbed her shoulders soothingly.
“What you read is true. You are the only survivor of the S.S Harvey ship, a research ship directed by your father. You accompanied him on a field trip on 19th June when the ship got caught in bad weather, which later escalated into a sea storm. There was no news from the ship until…”
Janet pointed at the date and then at what supposedly to be warehouse, rather than what’s beside it. Needn’t to guess, Olivia could tell what Janet was trying to show her. But it didn’t explain everything that’s happening at the moment.
“I assume you’re wondering what’s happening right now. Care to take a blind guess?” Janet lighted a cig, savored that nicotine taste on the tip of her tongue before let out a wisp of white smoke.
“I died?”
“Eh, close enough. A coma. If you died, you wouldn’t be here to chit chat Livvy”
“Coma? But then, where am I?”
“Well, some might say it’s your subconscious so let just assume that it is. You didn’t die from the incident but drowning left you stranded in your brain, that’s all I could say.” Janet led her to the water. It seeped up close to their feet but it didn’t frighten Olivia no more
“I’m the fish of my own tank” Janet chuckled
“So you do remember”
“Yeah, I just got bits and bits of it. I chose to stay here, because there’s nothing out there for me, no one is waiting for me. At least I achieved my dream here, well, in a way” Olivia stepped back to clean sand, heart ached as she turned to Janet “Because in here I can see the one I held dear”
Janet tossed the burnt butt cig into the cool sand “Old habits die hard. You know, yet you still want to stay?”
“There’s no point going out there. I rather stay here”
“Alright, don’t keep Jake waiting on the dance floor.” Olivia headed back, blushed to the ear “After tonight, it’ll all be a bad dream”
“Wake up anew right?”
“Totally, Goldfish” Olivia’s shadow faded as now only Janet stood alone, water raised above her ankle. The way the ocean surging was unusual than before. There were whispers, cries lingered in the air. Moaned in pain. The thunder struck faraway on the surface warned the upcoming omen.
 “Time’s running out, Olivia”

Oneshot: Distance
“Fifty four hours until the experiment begins, Miss Rosewoods” A college student with brown messy mop of hair popped up from the table informed
“I know, Jake! If you don't shut up, I will shove my foot so far up your butt that you won't need to observe the meteor through the telescope but you'll be on it!” A voice yelled from inside the observatory “Go deliver the stack of reports on my table to Professor Archibald. Then come back here and help me with the modification on the lens”
Jake gave a questionable look at the mahogany door before he strode away with the stack of papers in his arms. Walking down the hall, he thought back of miss Rose. It wasn’t the first time he saw his professor stressed out during a project but it was the first time she yelled at him during one. She usually have better control of a situation and is able to handle everything calmly, but lately, she seems to be on edge. At first, she looked really happy when she received an invitation from Mr. Archibald to participate in an astrology experiment. Apparently he read her report on “Phyllis” meteor changing its trajectory and seemingly took interest after a discussion with other scientists. So now they are here, him as her apprentice, helping her with project “Phyllis” in Canterbury. But now, she's always so uptight, grunting and mumbling everyday while spending majority of her time in the observatory.
‘And she always sends me to do errands for her' Jake pouted, knocked on the wooden door then twisted the knob
“Ah, Mr. Jake, aren't you an early bird? You've obtained Miss Rosewood’s research for me? How delightful!” A man peered up from his laptop, smiled happily at the stack of papers in front of him.
Professor Archibald Thomas is a man in his 30s with smooth blonde hair and baby blue eyes. He's well known for many successful research in astronomy and highly respected by Miss Lilly Rosewood. He's quite fond of Jake and also hinders an interest toward Miss Rosewood. Jake set those papers neatly on the table and settled for a small talk with the professor. It wasn’t long before he excused himself to return to help his (teacher).
“Oh sure, but would you mind giving this to her? Thank you, young man” Mr. Archibald handed Jake a small folded beige card.
“Of course, sir. I'll be taking my leave” Jake retreated back to the hall, looking curiously at the card.
He returned back to the observatory, caught sight of a female leaning onto wall and seemingly dozing off. Jake came across the telescope and did a small check on the lens. Paperwork was scattered everywhere, details of the project scribbled on every inch of the paper. Looking back at the woman, his eyes softened as he carried her to the chair and put a coat on her. She suddenly stirred at the motion, looking up to Jake with misty eyes as she slurred.
“Jake? You came back already?”
“Yes, I'm back here. I checked the lens, it's good, miss”
“Okay, I'll clear these drabbles for some space” Lily tiredly rubbed her eyes and popped some bones.
“How about you go get some shut eyes while clear them up? You did stay up all day yesterday” Jake picked up a few notes
The woman shook her head, mumbled something like she could do it herself, but didn’t protest when her apprentice started picking up the task. Jake couldn’t help but take pity of her ‘zombie' state. She usually worn herself out to the point that people starts to think she's just come back from the death. Dark circles around her eyes, skin pale from malnourishment, hair in a messy bun, she have a look that screamed ‘Help' in general. Jake sighed ‘Like she would ask anyone for help' and kept on finishing the cleaning duty.
“Oh, Professor, Mr. Archibald asked me to give you this” Jake pulled out a card and presented it to Lily.
After examined, Lily yawned and shoved the card inside her coat pocket.
“I'll be leaving for an hour or two, so could you be a dear and keep an eye out here? Or at least lock the door if you went outside to attend other duties?” She opened the door and turned to toss a key towards her apprentice “Here's the key”
“You got it, Miss Rose”
And with that, the redhead woman flew off behind the exit.
___________________________
Screen lighted up in the dark room. It was 11.25, Eliana closed the last draft in progress while picking up the phone to check for notification.
‘No new message'
Benjamin barked her attention away from the device.
‘Oh right, midnight snack' Eli mumbled
She put down her cellphone and went to the kitchen to made some food for her and her child. Settled down on the couch, Benjamin dragged a small blankie along as he tried to snuggle against Eliana with his long slim body, pretended to be a small boy. Eliana didn’t mind, set the bowl down on the table and watched her ‘little pup' gobble down delicious snack. Sipping her tea, the room bared nothing but darkness with the soft moonlight shone through the window and Ben's chewing sound.
Despite the tranquillity lured her tired body to sleep, her mind stayed wide awake waiting for something, or someone to be precise.
43 days
No calls
No messages
Not even a letter
Eli started to become desperate. She knew Lily is a workaholic, one who dedicated her life to career, but she couldn’t help but miss her. She missed her face. Her turquoise pupils. Her wavering red hair that looks like sunset. Her soft, feathery touches that send shivers down Eli's skin. Her radiant smile like a thousand sun. Her melodious voice that soothe her anxiety away. And her herself.
Eliana hugged the cushion tightly to her body, groaned in frustration. She wished for her girlfriend to be here, to warm her during cold nights. Without her, she felt the misery and loneliness was restored back to the life she had before Lily stepped in. The apartment they live in is now quiet and empty, as well as the bed they share. Fear seeped into her heart.
‘What if she had left me?’
‘What if she lied about the work and moved away because she couldn’t stand of me?’
‘What if she had met someone else who occurred the same interest as her? Would she leave me for them?’
Questions swarmed over her head, one after another, flooded her mind with anxiety. Tears prickled her eyes, Eli sniffled in exhaustion, wanting this torment to end quickly. She just wanted Lily to be home with her right now, held her and told her she was wrong, that she will never leave her in the dark like this. Benjamin looked at her and whimpered, rubbing his head as well as snuggling to comfort his owner's sorrowful state.
A bright light shone in the room, coming from her device vibrated vigorously from a call. Eli snapped at it, instantly picked up the call. A soft voice rang up that made her breathless for a second.
“Eliana? It's me, Lily”
There’s a silence between them before one began speaking.
“I know I have been busy with work and cannot contact you for a period of time now. I also aware that you may be angry with me for it so, I'm sorry, my dearest.”
Tears escaped her eyes, fell silently on the pillow she held as her lips wobbled to calm herself.
“For all the time I stayed here, I drowned myself in paperwork and project, but no matter what I do, I couldn’t help but miss you, love. I miss your presence so much, not even words could describe the pain resided inside me from being apart from you dear.”
Sobs and hiccups echoed in the room as the girl tightly gripped her phone in her shaky hand, heart bloomed at those loving sentences for her.
“Distance is a pain, but it can’t keep me from you. So darling, could you please open the door and let me in?”

Day 2: Smile
Day 2: Smile
It was one of those rare days that Eliana had to stay up to finish her deadlines before they stacked high enough to trample upon her. Lily offered to help but she felt like her girlfriend was too exhausted from all the university lectures and researches at the laboratory so turning her down was needed in order to make her get some shuteye. Stubborn one she was. Fortunately, she just went to bed, murmured some protests about how horrible Eli would look by the time the sun rose high before shut the door to our bedroom.
Switching her PC screen on, she struggled to complete the final touch on the background frame. Benjamin was sleeping on the couch along with Pumpkin on his back. It was odd to spot a gingerbread mop of fur on a big black sausage in her opinion but they were incredibly cute in that sleeping position that Eliana couldn’t help snap a few pictures. ‘But I squeal all I want later after getting my work done’ so sourly pulled herself from their cute children, Eli rolled back to the task at hand.
In the middle of her agonizing art lining process, a notification popped up from her cellphone, a message from a friend. She contemplated on whether to keep on the project or check her phone, however at this rate of the second sketch she was working on, it wouldn’t be too long before she tossed the computer out the window out of frustration. She desperately need of a distraction if she want to continue her hellish deadline, therefore, she unlocked the phone for some light entertainment of all sort.
It had been almost an hour. Eliana mindlessly looked at the computer screen but she couldn’t focus on the pixilated picture. Her mind betrayed her, drifted to something else, or someone to be specific. Her beautiful wavering hair on the shade of deep red, her sparkling eyes like stars in the sky, her long slender fingers comforting Eli from daily troubles. The way she talks to the way she walks, they are full with grace and elegance, but so soft and sweet that every touch felt like feather.
And the way she smiles, it’s too beautiful to even be capture on any canvas, radiant like the sun and so warm, so comforting. Her smile, still there whenever she went through hardship, to help her stand tall against the pain that life throws at her. Her smile, so strong but also fragile, as if they could break any moment whenever the darkness takes over. It is the only thing on her mind right now, undoubtedly. As her fingers moved the pen swiftly on the tablet, a newfound sensation coursed through her body like electric, spread like wildfire along with cursive line as the drawing began to make shapes. Within an hour or so, she dropped her pen, indicated the drawing was done with a finishing touch here and there. She gave out a tired smile, not forgetting to save, before collapsed on the desk, dozed off with the file still open.
It was a picture of a woman smiling brightly in the sunflower field.

Day 1: Miss
It was chilly, just today. Lily draped the blanket over the sleeping figure next to her as she stretched out of bed and headed to the kitchen. Picked up a mug, she poured herself some coffee before skimming through her phone. It’s still dark outside, 4.30, and in time like this she couldn’t sleep nor did she want to. Lily sat in the living room, sipping her coffee with heavy lidded eyes. The apartment glowed in dim yellow light from the living room, so warm and comforting. Lily felt herself sink deeper into the couch, wanted nothing more than to shut her eyes and passed out but thought after thought kept her awake more than the bitter taste lingered at her throat.
Lily sighed.
How annoying.
The sound of bell along with small thumping alerted her that Benjamin was awakened. Not long before a pair of black eyes peered at her from the bedroom’s door before she signaled him to come closer.
“Come here, Ben. Do you want to go for a walk?” She scratched him lightly behind the ear and earned a lick in the face
“I’ll take that as a yes”
————————————————————————————————————
5:23
They had been walking for almost an hour. It was foggy, street lights blurred in the humid weather while the wind did no help in addition to the cold. Lily was grateful of her quick-witted mind to put on a raincoat on Benjamin, otherwise he would be bedridden by the time they reached home. He sniffed around before stopping in front of a gate. Lily didn’t even need to look up to know where they were.
Casterfil’s cemetery.
“You’re early, Lily.” Lily caught a face of an old man from the corner of her eye
“I can’t really sleep with a headache. But seems like I wasn’t the only one who was wide awaken” the man shrugged while jiggling the key into the lock
“Such terrible weather to work on, isn’t it Mr. Moore” he patted Ben and chuckled
“Just as terrible as coping with a bad back. Dirty mud, grass is slippery and everything is wet. Mind your step while walking inside, alright?” The chain on the gate was undone as they stepped in
Tombs lining in order, gray after gray, such a depressing sight. Lily stopped at the third line, slowly moved toward the smooth boulder.
IN MEMORY OF A DEAR HUSBAND AND A LOVING FATHER
WILLIAM ROSEWOODS
1964 - 2002
She grimaced. Expressionless.
She didn’t know what to say. There was nothing to say.
She feared the silence she would receive as answers.
“ Are ya alright, kid?” Muddy boots came in to her side
“ .... It’s nothing” He sighed
“ Then why are you crying?”
Lily closed her eyes and chuckled
“You’re mistaken. It’s just the rain”
Moore raised his eyebrow, averted his eyes to the engraved letters.
“ I know the pain of losing loved ones, how agonizing it was to carry on living in isolation. I can’t tell you to forget because I couldn’t either, nobody could, be that as it may, you’ll miss out the best things if you keep your eyes shut”
He squeezed her shoulders wholeheartedly before leaving her in her own thoughts. Her Dobermann whimpered to her, nudging his head in condolences in awaiting for her petting. Lily smiled looking to him.
“ Let’s go home, shall we? Eliana must have made breakfast”
Benjamin barked happily before rushing to the gate after the word “breakfast”, dragging Lily behind.
‘Maybe the best thing to her is already waiting for her at home'

GUIDE: NAMING A TOWN OR CITY
This post was originally from a FAQ, but since the original link is now defunct, I am re-posting it here.
There are many things to keep in mind when naming the town or city in your novel:
1) Genre/Theme/Tone
It’s very important to consider the genre and theme of your story when choosing a town name. Take these names for example, each of which indicates the genre or theme of the story: King’s Landing (sounds fantastical) Cloud City (sounds futuristic) Silent Hill (sounds scary) Sweet Valley (sounds happy and upbeat) Bikini Bottom (sounds funny) Radiator Springs (sounds car-related) Halloween Town (sounds Halloween-related) Storybrooke (sounds fairytale-related) 2) Time/Place It’s also important to consider the time and place where your story takes place. For example, you wouldn’t use “Vista Gulch” as a name for a town in Victorian England. You probably wouldn’t use it for a town in modern day North Carolina, either. Vista is a Spanish word and would normally be found in places where Spanish names are common, like Spain, Central and South America, the southwest United States (including southern California), Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Florida. 3) Size/Settlement Type An isolated town of 300 people probably won’t be Valley City, but a sprawling metropolis of 30 million could be called Windyville, because it could have started out as a small town and grew into a large city. 4) Geography Words like gulch, butte, and bayou tend to be regional terms. You probably wouldn’t find Berle’s Bayou in Idaho, or Windy Butte in Rhode Island. Words like mount, cape, and valley are dependent upon terrain. Most of the time, you won’t have a town named “mount” something unless there are hills or mountains nearby. You wouldn’t use “cape” unless the town was on a cape, which requires a large body of water. 5) History Is there a historical person or event that your town might be named after? The Simpsons’ hometown of Springfield is ironically named after its founder, Jebediah Springfield. Chattanooga, Tennessee is named after the Cherokee town that was there first. Nargothrond, in The Lord of the Rings, is an Elvish town with an Elvish name. 6) Combination of Words
person name + geographical term = Smithfield, Smith Creek
group name + geographical term = Pioneer Valley, Settlers’ Ridge
descriptive word + geographical term = Mystic Falls, Smoky Hill
person name + settlement type = Smithton, Claraville
landmark + settlement type = Bridgton, Beaconville

For your posts to be featured on our blog, please mention our blog or reblog the prompt with your response. If you don’t receive a like from @jess—writes for two days assume tumblr has eaten the notification and don’t be afraid to send us a message!
Use the prompts however you want: write an excerpt, poem, draw something. Be creative!
Can I jump Ahead?
Sure! You can do these prompts in any order. If you’d like any of the quotes for future days, we can send them to you.
Is there a goal?
Not officially. However, for those of you who manage to respond to 20+ prompts, we will write a feature of your blog which will be posted during April. We will post a list of people on April 1st. Keep an eye out and please tell us if you’re missing!
