Day in the Life: Oculus's Workplaces

Aika is standing outside on her balcony, overlooking the beautiful city of Minato at night, as everything comes alive. In one hand is a glass of wine, and in the other is a lit cigarette. A smile is on her face, though it's strangely sad for some reason. Taking a puff from her nicotine stick, she sighs as she takes the cigarette from her lips. She stands up from leaning on the balcony and then turns to look at the camera.
"You know I really love this view. I know it's just the city, but something about watching it really puts a lot of things in perspective and helps me to just, you know, get my thoughts and mind in order. They say that with each birthday, you're 'another year older, and another year wiser'. The 'older' part I definitely get, but I certainly don't feel 'wiser'. I don't know, maybe it's just the feeling that I'll soon be 40, and then... well, I suppose its pointless worrying about things that haven't happened yet."
"But anyway, I gotta say, this birthday... it was probably one of the more memorable ones I've had in a very long time. I think the only thing that could have made it better was if... well, if my daughter was here. ...But I know the odds of that happening are slim to none."

Although her birthday was over, the time for Aika to be receiving gifts was still not yet over. While she was relaxing with a glass of wine after a hard day's work, she heard the doorbell to her penthouse apartment ring out. Sighing, she set her glass down and paused the program she was watching on her T.V. before heading to the door. Opening it, she looked as there was a package at the foot of the entrance, making her eyes open with surprise.
Picking it up, she brought the thing inside, dropping it on the kitchen table. Grabbing a dirty, yet sharp kitchen knife from the sink, she unsealed the tape off the top of the box before viewing what was inside.
Blinking, the porn star found three items: a journal with a wooden cover with a carving of a fox on the front, a trinket tray featuring a fox with a loving, inspirational message above it, and lastly, a black t-shirt with a beautiful elemental kitsune graphic image on the front. Taking each item out and gently placing it down, she looked inside and found a note addressed to her, which read:
"Happy belated birthday, Aika-san! My deepest apologies for sending these gifts to you so late, but you know how life has a tendency of running rampant on most things. I hope your birthday was a good one despite that. I had my husband and son also help out with your gifts. The t-shirt is from my son, as you can probably guess. He loves anime, and figured you'd enjoy a shirt with something animated, as well. The journal's from my husband. He was going to buy you something music-related, but thought that a journal would be better, since it would help you write down your feelings or thoughts on whatever you're going through at the moment."
"And lastly, the tray is from me. I bought it less for its intended purpose, and more for the message on it. I know things probably aren't going any better between you and your child, but despite that, I wanted you to know that no matter what she or anyone else says, you are a good person. And this world is better for having you in it. Do not ever think otherwise."
"I hope you enjoy all of the gifts. And apologies again for missing your birthday. We, or rather, I look forward to seeing you again in Gypsy's Palace."

Aika smiled at the letter, as well as the message on the trinket tray her friend had gifted her. She was glad at least one person had a high opinion of her. Of course, Aika knew that she was loved. Despite the problems she had with her daughter, her life was far from bad. Her parents were still alive and loved her, she had a good-paying "job" with good co-workers, had millions of fans, and some awesome friends who knew how to have fun.
Smiling again at the little trinket tray, she placed it on her living room table, promising herself that she'd read it almost everyday. Looking at the journal, Aika didn't know if she'd ever use it, but you never know. As for the t-shirt, the porn star loved the design on it. It reminded her of a cartoon her daughter had showed her once about a blonde-spiky haired ninja boy who had apparently had a demon fox inside of him. Slipping the shirt on, it was a bit big, but she didn't mind.
After all, that made it easy to get out of in case a guest an unexpected guest came over…
