Fic recs for Usopp pairings except Luffy/Usopp and Zoro/Usopp
For @blackusopp and anyone else taking an interest! Er, these are mostly pretty old because I haven’t gone looking for fics as much in the last few years. My recs for Luffy/Usopp and Zoro/Usopp fics have already been posted. (See the tag “myficrecs” on my blog if you’re curious.) There’s a lot more than these out there, many of which I haven’t read! Especially for Sanji/Usopp, which I think is probably the most popular Usopp ship overall.
(One might think from this list that I don’t like Usopp/Kaya, but I do! It’s just that I can’t remember at the moment any particular fic with that pairing that really stayed with me.)

Luffy/Sanji/Usopp/Zoro
I actually only know one fic for this ship, and it’s very brief, but nice: Reconciliation by chibi-trillian. PG-13. Post-Enies Lobby but written before the real crew reunion took place in canon
Merryshipping (Luffy/Zoro/Nami/Usopp/Sanji)
Five’s Bad Company by Guardian 1. Author’s summary: “It’s indecently hard to get privacy on this ship. Luckily, nobody wants it. Nobody ships like Nami ships”. Note: I read this fic fairly early on in the fandom and loved it. It struck a chord in how I like to approach Strawhats shipping in general, I think.
Merryship 50 by Lonicera Japonica. Author’s summary: “Fifty sentences of piratical polyamory”.
Nami/Sanji/Usopp
The Art of Getting What You Want by tFantasyFan. Sanji/Nami/Usopp, rated T. Author’s summary: “Nami is the master of figuring things out. It all goes her way from there.”

The Lies That Bind by Guardian1. Fifty onesentence challenge for this pairing, with perhaps just a hint of Merryshipping as well.
Something Worth Saving by Loniceraa Japonica. Brief ficlet, set after Arlong Park.
Turnabout Is Not Fair Play by spiderflower. Hard R. Before you click on this one, I should warn you that this is replete with Water 7 angst and does not end in happy fluff. Both characters are in a bad place here, especially Usopp, but Nami’s not in the best state of mind either. They both do and say some pretty messed-up things. But it’s well-written stuff if one is in the mood for dark-tinted angst.
Sanji/Usopp
All Very Romantic by tFantasyFan. Author’s summary: “The first consideration and the first acknowledgment of the desire. Kissing, Sanji-style.”
Ashes NC-17 and That Other First Time by Tonko. Both of these are NC-17 and part of a Vampire Sanji AU where the main couple is really Sanji/Zoro: Sanji and Usopp are very close FWB here. You can also find them on AO3 as part of this series.
Happy by Lonicera Japonica. Author’s summary: “It takes a lot to make Sanji really laugh.”
In Good Hands by Tonko. Hurt/comfort: Sanji gets a massage, and gets lucky.
Music Box by midnightdiddle. (PG-13, Sanji/Usopp) Two castaway pirates start going nuts. Set early on in the canon (before Chopper joins).
Sanji/Usopp/Zoro (This pairing used to be known as “Red Shirt Trio” on the old LJ fandom once upon a time)
Pathetic Excuse For a Flirt, Really, But At Least He Smells Good by runic-binary. Short and funny to the prompt “vanilla”.
Yes, He Could by plotbunny-tiff. R. Getting Zoro to truly unwind is no mean feat. Note: Another fic that’s influenced me a lot. It’s fairly short, but the intimate atmosphere in this one just stuns me. When I wrote my own fic with this pairing much later on, I kept comparing it to this one and felt mine fell short…

Merryshipping (LuZoNaUsoSan)
Many thought it madness to incite a romantic relationship between five people, but wasn’t that what the Straw Hat pirate crew stood for, anyway? Luffy might have said freedom, but from the expression on Nami’s face (faked), you’d think she agreed with madness instead.
Luffy loved Zoro’s determination to be the best swordsman in the world, and secretly took pleasure in his and Sanji’s displays of strength during their arguments.
Zoro loved the way Nami panicked over everything, not that a normal person would blame her, though he would never say so.
Nami loved Usopp’s long nose and wild black hair - she enjoyed running her fingers through his mane, too.
Usopp loved Sanji’s heroic tendencies in battles, and often played up his injuries to try and get Sanji to carry him … or Zoro, but Sanji carried more gently.
Sanji loved his captain’s voracious appetite (both in bed and at the galley table).
The Going Merry loved how her crew all loved each other, though that might have been because she was a closet pervert, though the Straw Hats would never know.
In all, the first five members of the Straw Hat crew loved each other, and the rest of their future crew would never begrudge them for that.

Dreams (Merryshipping/LuZoNaUsoSan)
The crew of the Straw Hats had many dreams between them, although four of them had an extra one: Luffy, Zoro, Usopp and Sanji all wanted children, surprisingly, and they all hoped that Nami would carry theirs at some point. She, however, didn’t want to be pregnant. Dreams are crushed, and life goes on.

I got bored waiting for today’s One Minute Writer prompt, so I did one of the older ones. This just happened, I don’t even know any more. On the plus side, I have 6 followers! Yay! Happiness (Merryshipping/LuZoNaUsoSan)
Different people find happiness in different ways. Some people find it in books, or games, or friendship. Some find it in specific people.
One example of this is the Straw Hat pirates. A small crew of five in East Blue, they have found happiness in each other - they are nakama, through and through. On the other hand, they have found a different kind of happiness in each other, too.
Love.
Luffy and Zoro and Nami and Usopp and Sanji, they all love each other. They still have preferences, like Sanji loves Nami just a little bit more than he loves the others, Nami loves Usopp, Usopp crushes heavily on Zoro, Zoro dotes on his captain and Luffy is head over heels for his chef. It wasn’t much more, barely a heart cubed* more of love, but they all knew instinctively and respected the others unconditional, uncontrollable love in the bedroom.
Their perverted ship, however, found happiness in her crews sexual encounters, but to each their own, right?

Yaay, another LuZoNaUsoSan! With regards to the preferences, it’s more of a SaNaUsoZoLu, NaUsoZoLuSan, UsoZoLuSaNa, ZoLuSaNaUso or LuSaNaUsoZo, though. Merryshipping~ And I got to put in that the Going Merry is pervert again!
Seriously, my headcanon of Merry is: kind, shy, closet pervert, helpful. Kind of like Naruto’s Hinata, really, but a ship.

i found fanart on r34 but i found it slightly suspicious because instead of being porn for eb5 (theres a lot of that. more than you think) its porn but like, in the very wholesome and cute and intimate way? and it seemed like- you know, the people drawing the eb5 having an orgy arent legitmately shipping them most of the time, but this looked different- so i went through 3 versions of the source link (the reupload of the reupload took me to the the original reupload of the art, which had very wholesome comments for r34.) and found the original deviantart post

seems like i was right allhats is a spinoff of merryshipping as terms as opposed to the other way around we are back at square 1
this also begs the question. which shipping term predates the other? merrshipping couldve been called allhats originally, and a lot of the polycule shippers seem to blend in with eachother on livejournal. if i look up allhats livejournal will i find more shipping fic? i honestly thought allhats was a spinoff of merryshipping (as terms) not the other way around

Re your search for merryship on LJ: did the op fandom have kinkmemes in the early early 2ks? Some of the oldest and best known fics and ships in another fandom I'm in came from kinkmeme prompts, and if anyone's going to request a five person ship fic it's bound to be there
it did! ive actually seen one mentioned on the livejournal community, presumably it did mention merryshipping but the livejournal link is dead.
if anybody knows how to navigate livejournal better: i keep using google to search the livejournal blogs as itll presumably give me any and every webpage that mentions "merryshipping" (if i put it in quotation marks like that) and luffy/zoro/nami/usopp/sanji (in that order as its the manga order but i should try luffy/nami/zoro/usopp/sanji (anime order)
im very open to suggestions on how to search better in specifically livejournal itself, as im not used to using the site. as well as search terms/ways of searching that i mightve missed, but this has been the most fruitful for me. i still have to scrub ao3 more but it's tedious
i should also try looking up the keywords used in the prompt gone_bad mentioned to see if i can find the livejournal fic that way.

that livejournal community might be the origin of "merryshipping" as a name, but it doesnt come off like its the first thing to think of "merryshipping" as a name. if youve looked at it it really seems like its already established as a concept by then because they dont introduce the name "merryshipping" at all. its really stumping me because i cant find anything earlier, the community itself was made in 2006.
theres some shaky evidence supporting the idea that im right about this, i found a livejournal bio that was made in 2004 referencing the shipname, but i cant find the origin of the name itself. where would shippers go in the early 2000s to create a ship name for 5 teenagers except for livejournal?
+ somewhat unrelated
it seems like 5s bad company was THE favourite of merryshippers on livejournal. (i found several posts praising the fic) as it should be

based on all fics ive perceived as having a claim to fame in "being the first fic uploaded to ao3" it was all merryshippers. all of their authors were merryshippers.
anyways would you believe if i started going through ao3s backlogs because i saw someone claim a zosan fic on ao3 is the "first fanfiction for one piece" and i know thats not true because it was a backlogged ao3 fic, only to find out that that person. who they were claiming was the original one piece author. also was a merryshipper.
the tweet was like "everything came from zosan and you should thank us for it!" and im sitting here. like. not only is this inaccurate to how the archival of fanfiction works, but you according to your own logic you really should be thanking merryshippers.
