Lance looked up from his phone when Merlin came out of the bathroom. He let out a low whistle at how incredible Merlin looked and dropped his phone onto the pillow beside him, scrambling up off the bed and over to his boyfriend’s side.

Merlin’s Halloween costume definitely put Lance’s to shame. Admittedly Lance had put minimal effort into his ‘vampire’s victim’ costume, just wearing leather trousers and a ripped ‘bloodstained’ t-shirt. But Merlin had gone all out. His dark hair coupled with the high collar of his black cape and deep purple silk shirt contrasted beautifully with how ethereally pale his skin was. His eyes were darkly lined and he’d drawn a small droplet of blood with, what Lance assumed was, lipstick pencil at the corner of his mouth. Merlin grinned, revealing two long pointed vampire fangs attached over his real teeth.

Lance couldn’t help the way his stomach flipped and heat began pooling in his groin.

As the Light Fades

If there is one thing Lancelot hates; it is feeling helpless. It is not often that he feels so completely and utterly terrified. But as the demonic creatures – the Dorocha, the spirits of the dead, Gaius had called them – rise up from the shadows and surround the group of knights, there is nothing else he can do but try to squash the all encompassing fear from his mind and focus on staying alive.

The creatures swarm them, darkness and despair and horrible inhuman shrieks. Not corporeal enough to stick a blade through, but still able to inflict a freezing death on the mortal men. Lancelot is struck by a terrible sense of powerlessness as he clutches his useless sword in his sweaty palm.

Arthur yells and behind him Merlin snatches an abandoned torch from the ground, lighting it with a blaze of golden eyes. He pushes the torch into Arthur’s hand, and Arthur isn’t given time to wonder where it came from as another Dorocha screeches towards them. He simply steps forward and sweeps the torch through the air, catching the wraithlike spirit.

“Ugh, that was hard work.” Arthur groaned.

“What? Taking your cloak off?” Merlin teased lightly, taking another sip of his wine.

Arthur just pulled a face at him. He let his weight tip back onto the heels of his feet until his back thudded against the archway pillar. He dropped his head backwards to thunk into the stone as well, yawning.

“This afternoon was so tedious. I feel like we went over that one point about horse trade for hours.”

Merlin put his goblet down again then bent to pick up Arthur’s discarded cloak.

“I don’t see why I even had to be there,” he complained as he picked a bit of fluff off the cloak, folding it carefully and draping it over the back of a chair.

“Because you’re the Court Warlock, Merlin,” Arthur replied exasperatedly.

Gwaine loves Merlin and Arthur dearly, but their bickering sometimes drives him nuts. He makes the mistake of siding with Arthur during an argument, and it leads to Merlin casting a spell on Arthur to allow him to use magic. It goes about as disastrously as it sounds.

I wrote this as part of the @merlin-wat-game! The goal was that each participant was given the work created before them, and then had to create their own work based on it just like the classic Telephone Game. If you want to start at the beginning of the series you can start here.
