So let's talk about Marwa.

I'm so so disappointed with Marwa's ending you have no idea. I've been thinking about it since Saturday, trying to come to terms with it and I just can't. It's cruel, misogynistic and not funny at all.

I'm angry and even hurt with the way the writers have treated her character and storyline. Specially in a show with so few women, where, let's be real, Nadja is the only woman in the main cast. And they've been trying with the Guide since last season, but she's barely more than a side character and they could do so much more with her.

But this is about Marwa (the first woman of color with any sort of storyline in the show btw). And I'm going to say that the way this season handled her rubbed me the wrong way from the beginning. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but they have really dropped the ball with this.

Dear WWDITS writers: having one of the few woman on your show lose herself, her autonomy and all her choices because of a man and a marriage is not a hot take or funny, it's just cruel and not something I wanted to see on my silly vampire show, it's frankly misogynistic and brings nothing new to the table.

Marwa whole storyline is such a horrifying and unneeded part of the season. She was brought back from the dead with all her sister (and I guess brother) wives and had to watch them all get killed, one by one until she was the only one left. Still she had so much hope and wonder.

Then we slowly saw her disappear, episode by episode, losing more and more of herself, all her autonomy, all her choices taken away from her. Until that final wish that made her personality completely dissolve.

And the show's idea of a satisfying ending is turning her yet into another person (a man this time) and just sending her off into the world without any agency? What? And nobody brought it up? She's just another Freddie now, she's just gone, poof that's all we get I guess.

She deserved so much better. She deserved to get out of there in her own terms. She deserved to scream at Nandor, to humiliate him, bring him down a notch. I hope she gets to come back and kill him at some point during the next two seasons. Because this was not it.

already seeing people who clearly don’t understand that a lot of us who are upset about what happened to marwa in this episode aren’t upset about the characters’ in-universe morality but the real life misogyny and racism in the way that this plot was handled lol

what you need to understand is that this season guillermo is giving "i want my beloved to be happy." and nandor is giving "if i loved you less i might be able to talk about it more." and i'm going insane about it

the tragic irony of guillermo always being the one to oppose nandor's relationships with other people, UNTIL it's a relationship nandor doesn't actually want. the tragic irony of nandor always being able to rely on guillermo to save him from himself and his mistakes even when he himself doesn't realise it's a mistake or believes he doesn't want guillermo's help, UNTIL he literally wants guillermo to do exactly that and all guillermo is doing is wholeheartedly supporting what he KNOWS is a huge mistake. the tragic irony of nandor wanting someone to ruin his wedding so desperately, whilst guillermo is literally driving himself insane trying to make it perfect for him. the tragic irony of guillermo thinking he's done right by both of them by moving on and letting nandor be happy with someone else and not being jealous anymore, when really what nandor actually needs right now is that old jealous, conniving guillermo who will try to sabotage nandor's relationship for his own good. the tragic irony of nandor finally giving up on running away from his feelings and turning around, only to find that guillermo has stopped chasing him.

wait a hot second it’s not adding up like the wwdits promo shows nandor looking for someone to marry in the club but we’re not yet in the club ep?? there’s no club yet?? and marwa is literally here already? uhm?

As much as I enjoy the idea of Marwa plotting on Nandor, I would actually be so happy if her arc was actually like “holy shit astronauts??? Particle physics??? The Internet???” Because we didn’t hear much of what she was saying around Nandor being a butthead, but she sounds like a scientist, and if her motivation turned out to be “fuck you guys, I’m going to university to learn all the amazing advancements of the last seven centuries” and she becomes an astrophysicist or something, I would actually sincerely love that. Like if I woke up 700 years in the future, there’s so much I’d want to know, so if she got blinked back into existence and looked around an almost entirely foreign world to her and decided she needs to explore it, that would be so valid of her.

i am SO fucking hyped for a season where guillermo is the indifferent one and nandor is the lovesick one. where he’s doing everything he can to get guillermo to fall in love with him except saying it outright. where guillermo just brushes him off because he’s already perfectly content with where he is in life, and nandor still refuses to admit that he’s in love with guillermo but he’s distantly aware of it. now IMAGINE what will happen when nandor, who was upset that guillermo wasn’t jealous of his wives, finds out about freddie
