Dio

Pure evil, right down to his very bones, Dio Brando is a cunning vampire and Stand-user possessing a peerless ambition and insatiable hunger for power.  Born of low status in 19th century England, Dio was hardened by years of abuse at the hands of his drunken father.  He became obsessed with gaining wealth, power and influence.  He murdered his father and schemed his way into the prestigious Joestar family.  Soon he obtained the mystical Ishi Kamen, a powerful stone mask of ancient Aztec origins. The mask bestowed onto Dio the powers of a vampire, powers he used to subjugate portions of the countryside with legions of loyal vampires and zombies.  He was apparently killed by his adoptive brother, Jonathan, but managed to survive, confined for a century in a casket at the bottom of the ocean.

This casket was accidentally unearthed by a shipwreck salvage operation and a revived Dio would go on to possess a power Stand known as ‘The World.’  Stands are a psycho-kinetic semi-corporal manifestation of an individual’s psychic energy.  Those who are able to wield a Stand possess great power and Dio rededicated himself to use his stand and other stand-users in a quest to gain dominion over the entire world. 

His efforts in this regard put Dio into conflict with he descendants of the Jouster family, notably Jotaro Kujo, possessor of the Star Platinum Stand.   Following many conflicts, Jotaro is ultimately able to defeat Dio and the vampire is destroyed when his corpse is exposed to sunlight.  

Dio had sired many children over his life and one of his sons, Giorno Giovanna, would go on to become a heroic Stand user.   

Actors Nobuo Tanaka, Hikaru Midorikawa, Kenji Nojima and Takehito Koyasu voiced Dio in the original anime; with actors Kid Beyond and Patrick Seitz voicing the characters in the English language dub.  The villain originally appeared in first installment of JoJo no Kimyō na Bōken (Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure), airing on November 19th, 1993.
