“As things stand, Rhaenyra will ascend the throne and Jacaerys Targaryen will be her heir.”
Alicent, sweetheart, why are you saying that like it’s a bad thing?
“Though his fifteenth name day was still half a year away, Prince Jacaerys proved himself a man, and a worthy heir to the Iron Throne.”
“Prince Jacaerys flew north on his dragon, calling upon Lady Arryn of the Vale, Lord Manderly of White Harbor, [...], and Cregan Stark of Winterfell. So charming was the prince, and so fearsome his dragon, that each of the lords he visited pledged their support for his mother.”
“Meanwhile, the seeds Jacaerys Velaryon had planted on his flight north had begun to bear fruit, and men were gathering at White Harbor, Winterfell, Barrowton, Sisterton, Gulltown, and the Gates of the Moon.”
“Those who doubted the paternity of Rhaenyra’s sons whispered that the eggs would never hatch, but the birth in turn of three dragons gave the lie to their words. [Viserys] sat Jace upon his knee atop the Iron Throne and was heard to say, “One day this will be your seat, lad.”
“That left only Vhagar. No living dragon could match Vhagar for size or ferocity, but Jace reasoned that if Vermax, Syrax, and Caraxes were to descend on King’s Landing all at once, even “that hoary old bitch” would be unable to withstand them.”
“Thousands died. Yet none of these losses were felt so deeply as that of Jacaerys Velaryon, Prince of Dragonstone and heir to the Iron Throne.”
“When the Sea Snake was congratulated on his victory, the old man said, “If this be victory, I pray I never win another.”

Duh, everything is the woman’s fault 🙄
“rhaenyra scammed house Velaryon” that’s correct. it was ONLY rhaenyra. no one else was involved. as we all know, laenor, famous haver of heterosexual sex was totally able and willing to give rhaenyra trueborn heirs but his bitch wife actually kicked him out of the bedroom whenever he tried :(. and he was so upset about them not being his biological sons and wanted to speak out about it but rhaenyra was actually holding a gun to his head everytime he was onscreen so he couldn’t :((. so when you make posts about the Velaryon boy’s parentage be sure to only mention rhaenyra!! she is the sole culprit behind this terrible crime.

I don't get these posts I've been seeing saying what has rhaenyra ever done to prepare for the throne/ prove she'd be a good ruler. Like did you watch the show?
In the first episode, before she is even named heir, she is cup bearer to the king, meaning she was present during small council meetings, observing and learning how the kingdom is run and governed. In ep 6 we then see that she has a seat on the small council and is actively taking part in the running and governance of the Kingdom.
She marries laenor, the son and heir of a powerful house, securing their alliance and providing her family with a powerful navy. Whilst also fixing her own father's political blunder in the process.
She has many children creating a line of succession (and no it doesn't matter that some of them are bastards as its just a rumour and can't be proven so long as laenor is claiming them as his.) We also see jace, her heir, learning high valyrian because he believes a good king should uphold the traditions of their house, we see rhaenyra guiding him in this, showing that not only has she been preparing herself to rule but she has also began preparing the next heir for his rule.
She spends many years ruling and governing dragon stone, which is traditionally given to the heirs of the iron throne as a practice run and specifically to help prepare them to rule.
I've seen comments saying that she should have done more to secure alliances with the other houses so they'd support her claim. But here's the thing with that one, how do you know she didn't? There were large time jumps between various episodes, we don't know what she was doing during those time jumps. For all we know she was inviting lords to dragon stone to maintain relations or visiting/sending other members of the family to visit other houses. I mean she seemed pretty confident and knowledgeable about who was and wasn't likely to support her claim during the council meeting in 1x10. Also those houses had already sworn oaths to her and those oaths don't have an expiry date.
I honesty don't know what more you wanted her to do. I think the show made it very clear that she spent literally pretty much her entire life preparing herself for the throne.
Meanwhile all we saw aegon doing is jerking off out windows, drinking excessively and harassing/r*ping serving girls. But sure rhaenyra is the one that should have done more to prepare/prove herself.

Sometimes I get the feeling that people in this fandom don’t understand the meaning of an oath.
The Asoiaf world may be fantasy, but it is still based on real-life medieval setting.
In European medieval times, the values of the Church were held in high regard, and a person’s word actually meant something. When someone made a promise/an oath, especially a noble, it was expected of that person to honor it. Failure to do so resulted in dire consequences.
It’s not like it is now in modern 21st century, when everyone makes promises they end up breaking eventually and it’s like *shrug* “oh well, too bad” and no consequences follow.
So, when the Lords of the Realm swore oaths to uphold the ascension of Rhaenyra Targaryen on the Iron Throne, they were not at all “stale” or “meaningless”, as Otto Hightower tries to argue (that’s modern mentality and kind of poor writing on the part of the showrunners). It’s a pledge made in the name of a House.
And just because some of the Lords who swore those oaths died, that doesn’t mean that those oaths died with them (as the Lannisters, who have no honor whatsoever, try to argue). The oaths were made on behalf of Houses, not individuals, and therefore, the Houses as a whole were expected to respect them.
The reason Rhaenyra Targaryen had most of the Realm on her side is because the majority of Westerosi Houses understand the meaning of an oath. They also acknowledge that with the absence of an actual succession law, Rhaenyra Targaryen is the rightful Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.

Given that HOTD changed the circumstances surrounding Luke’s death, making it an accident + Aemond losing control over Vhagar, I’m really interested to see how they handle Aemond explaining what happened, because it’s a lose-lose for him. Either he:
A. Owns up to losing control over Vhagar when all he meant to do was scare Luke. This will essentially put it out in the open (for the key players) that the dragons can’t be controlled. And the BIGGEST ONE has already gone awol once.
B. Deliberately went after Luke as revenge for his eye and “oh well they’re just bastards we all know it so who cares?” And he owns up to being a Kinslayer.
Both will work against him because either way, he spilled blood. He killed one of Rhaenyra’s children when tensions were at an all time high. So either he’s incapable of controlling the largest dragon in Westeros and therefore a liability OR he’s violent and unpredictable.
The ultimate game of Fuck Around and Find Out

Did I spend 2 hours defending/explaining Sansa and her mindset on a GOT fan page on a different social media platform? Absolutely I did.
Tumblr media
rhaenyra targaryen just wanted her mother, freedom from what was expected of her, and her father to love her despite being born a girl.
alicent hightower wanted to get away from the control of her own father and ended up having her own wishes and dreams so warped to the point that she is still his puppet even in adulthood.
daenerys targaryen only wanted to go home and she was just a little girl being abused by her own brother and sold to a man who hurt her and ended up wanting to avenge her family.
sansa stark wanted a fairy tale kind of love and ended up watching her father be murdered, lost her entire family and was abused for years.
it breaks my heart to see people compare these girls and tear them down to raise another up. all they wanted was love and safety and they got killed and tortured and shoved into wars.

Otto said himself, before the three boys were born, that it wouldn’t matter if she was Jaehaerys come again, she could not get the iron throne because she was a woman.
Whether or not Jace, Luke, or Joff were legitimate, they still would’ve found a way or reason to get rid of her as a claimant. They’re just attacking the boys because of their own views of blood purity and legitimacy.
“Rhaenyra’s sons are bastards and they can’t have the throne because of that and neither can she because she birthed them.”
have…have any of you actually watched this series? Have you not read the books to this series that yall swear you know everything about?
whether or not yall like to admit it, Rhaenyra did her duty by giving her house heirs, and those heirs ,till this day, are still known as Targaryens and Velaryons.
Laenor said they were his, Corlys said the same and so did Viserys. The main people who needed to say something did, and you all simply do not like it. They hatched dragon eggs in their cradles, something only their Mother (Rhaenyra) and Father (Laenor) were able to do.
Considering that specific thing, no one really cared because they did something Alicent’s children couldn’t do which made them shine with legitimacy.
“but…but… no one would side with them…”
did we forget that a whole rebellion that did not end until 10-20(?) years before Dany was born was started because a bastard wanted to be King? Did we forget that the Blackfyre rebellions central point of fighting was this bastard should be king instead of this other rumored bastard? And they both had people fighting valiantly for both sides, either bastard or alleged bastard?
Did we not watch Margery get tossed between Joffery and Tommen so she could be Queen even though there are rumors of their lineage??
Did we forget heavy members of the Greens were singing Jace’s praise as the only man worthy of the Throne during the Dance??
NO ONE GAVE A DAMN, AND THE PEOPLE WHO DID ONLY CARED BECAUSE THEY GAINED SOMETHING OUT OF THEIR DOWNFALL. WAKE UP!
edit: JACE, LUKE AND JOFF ALSO WERE THE ONLY CHILDREN TO HAVE BETROTHAL AND MANY OF THOSE! MFS WERE FIGHTING TO HAVE THEIR DAUGHTERS MARRY RHAENYRA’S SON WHILE NO ONE WANTED TO MARRY ALICENT’S!! THERE IS A REASON FOR THAT!!

All that studying and he couldn’t figure out what would happen if:
1. You take your giant war seasoned dragon out to chase down a smaller dragon with your nephew on it
2. You screamed about debts being owed
3. You didn’t command in High Valyrian
Alicent, when she heard that her good, trustworthy son, who had spent years learning history and philosophy, and who had been sent as a messenger to Storms End to gain their support through a marriage pact, could not meet her immediately, because he has to pick out the remains of his nephew from Vhagar's false jaw:

"Aemond didn't want to kill Lucerys, he just wanted to scare him, just look at how he tried to stop Vhagar!"
So maybe… I don't know, he shouldn't have been chasing Lucerys through a blinding storm on his ancient, combat-trained dragon, laughing like a psychopath and giving commands in the wrong language…? This could be quite confusing…
And anyway, it's obvious that he's following Luke because he just wants to have fun and drink tea.
Poor, innocent angel. That rotten bastard Luke has ruined everything for him again!

@slymreddwyne “B-B-BUT SANSA!!!!!” 🙄
Bro did everything wrong but Sansa gets all the heat while Ned gets remembered as some kind of hero.
I always get a little bothered when Sansa is used as the scapegoat for Ned Stark’s death because she went to Cersei saying she didn’t want to go back to Winterfell, or that she’s reduced to a stupid little girl.
Like, wow, Sansa, a 12-13 year old girl, made mistakes and is obsessed with stories of knights and maidens and becoming a queen and having babies? Color me shocked that she didn’t understand the implications of what she had done.
As if Ned himself didn’t go tell the two worst possible people what he knew and was going to do, trusting that they, the two worst people, were going to be honorable and do the right thing. Sansa’s ignorance gets a pass since she’s a literal child with no experience in the Game. Ned, however, should’ve known better.

TW: PICTURE OF AEMOND TARGARYEN’S BIGGEST CHILDHOOD BULLY:
Tumblr media
Yeah, I’m tired of the “Jace and Luke are bullies” narrative.
Both Alicent and Viserys are quick to clock that Aegon is the ringleader, not Luke and Jace. Alicent literally asks Aegon “do you think they’ll be your playthings forever” in reference to Rhaenyra’s sons, meaning Aegon is the one who is actively putting them up to this stuff. Oh, and don’t forget that she gives him a free pass to keep on bullying Aemond in private, as long as it doesn’t interfere with that sweet sweet public image!
And let’s not forget that because the lines of communication between Rhaenyra and Alicent are closed, Aegon is the only one who we can 100% say knows that his actions are seriously hurting Aemond. I’m going to say something as someone who grew up in a big family with cousins- sometimes little kids lack the social awareness to understand that what they’re doing is actually hurting feelings.
What would happen in a normal family (or at least mine) is that after Aemond goes to Alicent crying, Alicent then goes to Rhaenyra, explains the situation, and then Rhaenyra would then go to *her* kids and be like “hey, dragons are a sensitive topic for aemond, stop teasing him about it.”
and here’s the scene, cranked up in brightness so i can see wtf is going on because i’m blind.
notes:
when aegon says “we felt badly about it” he nudges jace, prompting him
throughout the scene, jace is looking to aegon for approval
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even when they say “The Pink Dread!” Jace looks to Aegon and not Aemond
Jace does not oink until Aegon does
Luke is…five years old. He’s doing the grunt work of running and getting the pig, which not the behavior of the mastermind behind everything, but of the youngest child who was told they had a very important job ™️ and doesn’t know any better
In my professional opinion (my “professional” qualifications being growing up in a big family and working with kids as an adult) these are not the calculated actions of two masterminds looking to strike at Aemond’s biggest insecurity, but two younger kids wanting to impress an older kid and then being roped into something they didn’t fully understand the implications of.
