I recently finished reading this book called "What Happened to You? Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing" by Oprah Winfrey and Bruce D. Perry. This book was heavy at times with lots to unpack, but it was also comforting like a warm arm around your shoulder. Reading this book reminded me that I wasn't alone in this world, or with my trauma, and that some people really do understand. If you are in the middle of your healing journey or ready to start one, this book may help you too. You are not crazy, you are not stupid, you are simply misunderstood... but you don't have to be.
“So I’m not crazy?” “No. Your brain is doing exactly what you would expect it to do considering what you lived through.”― Oprah Winfrey

A Fresh Start
It's beginning to feel like the last page is starting to uplift from this chapter and I'm able to peak into the next. It's almost dusty because I've been waiting so long to catch a glimpse of it, and still a shadow lays over it blocking the first few words. I've spent countless nights staying up late imagining what would be written and how I would feel reading it, and here we are, just a swipe away. In a few short months I will be graduating from UBC Sauder with my Strata Management License and I will be on my way out of downtown chasing down a new career. A career that will provide me with a work life balance I've been craving since page 1. What does this mean for me? Does it mean I will have more time to spend with my family & friends and focus on my health? Does it mean I will be able to embrace my dog's senior years? I imagine that it could be everything and more, and I will carry that hope with me until I'm able to turn the page and catch a flicker of disappointment.

Me: I shall ride this wave until the bitter fucking end dammit.
My mom: It's nice to realize you are IN the wave too. Better endorphins when you enjoy the moments.
