hi! i'm trying to find a fic where john gets a virus and thinks he has wings. i don't remember anything else about it. any ideas?
This sounds vaguely familiar... 🤔🤔 I feel like there was a scene where John was on a balcony and Rodney was afraid he'd jump.
Anybody have any ideas?

Looking for that Happy Ending for John and Rodney? Feeling that urge to write that Happy Ever After story for our guys but just need a little incentive? Maybe you've found that perfect piece of McShep art and want to share it.
Boy, have we got a Fest for you!
We know the road to love and happy endings can be a rocky one, full of danger and angst. And we know our guys are more target practice and computer code than hearts and flowers. ( That's part of why we love them after all)
No matter how they get there, in the end, we want them to be happy together, and that's what this fest is all about.
In fact, that's the only requirement for the fest: a happy ending.
Truly, how you imagine John and Rodney's Romance is up to you. (I'm encouraging the addition of Hewligan stories because those boys surely need love too.)

I've said this before and I'll say it again but I'm menstruating and emotional today and actually have the words because @spurious and I have been talking about it--the reason why mcshep is the pairing of all time for me, personally, is this:
Rodney fundamentally believes the best he will ever get is to be tolerated. That if he suppresses his personality for long enough and does the right combination of Tasks, some woman will decide hes not so bad and settle for him. It doesn't matter if he wants her back, being tolerated is enough, and all he deserves.
His sister clearly reinforces this when she asks him about proposing to Katie Brown, which makes me think this was something his parents said as well.
JEANNIE: You think you're gonna find someone better?
McKAY: No, it's not that.
JEANNIE (laughing): ‘Cause you're not!
McKAY: Hang on …
JEANNIE: The fact that you found a nice girl who's willing to put up with all your many little flaws is a miracle.
He thinks it's a miracle, to be tolerated. "You're no John Sheppard," Jeannie reminds him. You can't have anyone in the world like your best friend (who he's painted, to her, as someone who can have anyone in the world). It has NEVER occurred to him that he could be wanted, or desired, for who he is. Only tolerated.
Rodney proposes to Katie Brown shortly after this likely because his sister reminded him the best he could hope for is a nice girl who tolerates him, and he was like I need to lock this down.
THEN, MEANWHILE. John Sheppard, who wants Rodney so badly. Not suppressed or polished or Best Behavior Rodney, either, but Real, Messy, Selfish, Arrogant, Prickly, Unmasked Rodney. John is, without a doubt, the person Rodney is most unabashedly himself in front of, the person who has repeatedly seen him at his worst, the person with which he totally allows his guard to drop, the person he spends his leisure time with. John has seen him, in whole, and wants him. Desires him powerfully and self destructively and all-consumingly with no hope for reciprocity for literal years.
For someone who believes he is fundamentally unlovable and only tolerable and has never even considered desire as a component in his lonely future--to have the person who knows him best (and a person he grudgingly but profoundly admires and loves and thinks is, for some reason, the Platonic Ideal of manhood and also coincidentally so handsome he could have anyone in the world he wanted) WANT him like that...it just!!! they're so romantic to me

It should come as absolutely no surprise that I'm a sucker for the holidays, and in December there is nothing I love more than a good Christmassy fic. Just wanted to share some of my faves!

Five Christmases by FrankTheSnek, 9200 words, M: Based on that very sweet Scandi Santa ad - Rodney is Santa, and John is smitten.
Liminal by GloriaMundi, 56000 words, M: This is not, strictly speaking, a Christmas fic, but parts of it are set over Christmas, and I reread it every December. Post-WWII England, Atlantis is a commune, John is a lost soldier, and Rodney is still a mad scientist. This story is beautiful, and the adaptations of other characters are just perfect!
A December Love Story by Melime, 25000 words, M: John is trying to reconnect with his family, Rodney is trying to win his sister over. They meet in the toy store (very Jingle all the Way!) and the rest is history! Sweet, non-Stargate AU!
Mountain Magic by Brumeier, 21000, T: John is a country musician, Rodney is a grumpy recluse, and there are three adorable orphans who need a home for Christmas! This is Hallmarky in the best way!
Finding Home for Christmas by DraconisWing24441, 54000 words, T: Another Hallmarky fave! John and Rodney are exes brought together by Madison's holiday letter to a soldier. Sweet, cozy read!
The Holiday by A_Storm_of_Roses, 26000 words, E: It's probably gauche to rec your own fics, but I also enjoy rereading it, so I don't care! A houseswap gone wrong means park ranger John and tech director Rodney are brought together for the holidays! Featuring the Millers!
