It must have been a small world, considering that she had a slight image of how she pictured him. The last time they met was not too long ago, but her gut instincts kicked in. She took a few steps towards him, and closer she got, she knew she had to be right. Rosetta did remember!
It seemed like he was working, so she didn’t mean to disturb him. Being focused is very important, especially to Rosetta. Not meaning to take that away from him, she took a stroll around the area. In moments like this, the breathtaking view could simply capture her and take her into nature’s embrace.
“What a beautiful day today..” she muttered to herself.

Ah, I can’t blame you. Trampoli does have a strange map, especially if you count Whale Island over there. [Points to a pinch-sized land the shape of a whale, arching its shape.] A unique land, but very fascinating.
[It’s not like she can easily get the impression of wanting the kitchen for cooking. One place can be for anything. Committing a crime in the kitchen wouldn’t be a very pretty image. Wait, where did the idea of crime come from? To begin with, in her own defense, asking for a kitchen out of the blue isn’t the best thing to do. And besides, she didn’t even know the man!]
[Raises a brow, slightly uncomfortable with the idea.]
If that’s the case...
I’ll show you the way. [Opens the door. At this point, she is quite cautious.]
Are you blind, kid?
Oh good heavens, I’m glad as well- the maps here are so strange, and unfortunately I didn’t brush up on the native language as much as I should have
which can cause miscommunication while travelling.
[Pierre lets out a small huff, about to once again thank her for her help when she asks what he wants to use her kitchen for. Why does anyone use a kitchen? What a redundant question– unless there was some sort of cultural difference and here they used kitchens to summon demons or something, not just cook.]

 for
 cooking?
[He makes sure to speak slowly, not sure if he’s about to be pulled into some freaky demon cult because of his past digressions.]

Biggest Fan? [Rosetta/Kiel]
blabbermouth-bookworm:
No no no- I recognize you, you look just like the book says! The hair, the barrettes, the store- it’s like you stepped right out of the poems!
[He visibly shakes the book as he talks, unable to contain his excitement.]
Maybe my favorite poem will convince you!
[Brandishing the book dramatically he begins to recite the very poorly writtenhilarious poem.]
Rosetta bosetta-
Won’t you please
Give me another
Adorable sneeze
Are you perhaps
Allergic to trees?
[The fact that he is being incredibly detailed ails her to the bone. At this point, she isn’t too sure about giving him the autograph. Her eyes rolled Materia’s logo carved above the parlor curtain, then her triangle barrettes. ...How can somebody publish a book dedicated to people you probably find at some arbitrary place?]
[They must have paid lots of attention. Before she can get a hold of the young boy’s book, she clenches her hand into a fist, blushing furiously.] Now, hold on a second--!
“Are you perhaps--allergic to trees?”
[WHO IN THE HELL TOLD YOU THAT??]
[Her whole face is red, almost as if she is about to burst.] ...H...H...

[Walking down the street enjoying the crisp Autumn day he notices a girl unlocking a shop, which is completely normal behaviour except--] ... hey! HEY! [Running up to her he gives her a big smile and pulls out a small book of poems.] You're Rosetta, aren't you? Can you sign these, I'm a huge fan of the poems about you!
[Monday. Great day to start off at 9AM with a–]
[What.]
[WHAT.] ?! [Turns around and yelps in shock at the boy approaching her.] AH!
Er
Excuse me. [Clears her throat before raising a brow. She is completely dumbfounded by his words. How does this stranger know about her name? Somebody probably mentioned Rosetta, but, it’s not like she can recall on how they can also memorize people’s faces.] Yes, I
 am.
[Takes a short pause between words, feeling suspicious. Poems? How could she sign his things empty-handed?]
I’m sorry, but I think you’ve got the wrong person.

[Comes in really late for work] L-listen, I know I was late, but I have a reason! Apparently today was Thanksgiving, but I forgot, and I didn't have any cookies or anything, and I couldn't just buy something from your store to give to you because that's stupid, so I had to run somewhere else to go and buy them and-
[Before Rosetta could lash at Danny, he cut her off. Now what excuse did he come up with?] ..
--Stop. I’ve heard enough. [She places her index finger between her lips, as if she’s gesturing him to stay shut. Of course she knew today was Thanksgiving and it is a valid excuse to be late, but... something about his reason is just way too odd. Rosetta couldn’t exactly blame him, though. It is strange situation indeed.]
You went out of town to... buy cookies? ... [Lets her hand fall to her side. She gives him a muddled look.]
[Smiles.] Danny, no worries. [Chuckles] Trust me, you’re fine.

It’s a pleasure of mine!
[Rosetta forms a reassuring smile, then places her hands behind her back. Considering that Trampoli isn’t a very big village, perhaps it wouldn’t be too much of a hassle to help him out. After all, the store isn’t going to open until half an hour. It seems like technology makes things harder as it is easier. Needless to say, it isn’t used as often in Trampoli.] I’m glad you somehow found your way here. It doesn’t seem so easy...
[Nods.] Mhm! I’d be happy to help.
...
[A... kitchen? Well, that escalated quickly. Rosetta raises an eyebrow at him, crossing her arms in suspicion. If it means helping him, at what cost does it mean leaving him to struggle on his own? And besides, he probably doesn’t know his way to the manor yet.]
What for, if you don’t mind me asking?
Are you blind, kid?
Thank you, it’s kind of you to worry for a stranger. [He sniffed, taking a pink handkerchief out of his jacket pocket and blowing his nose into it- what a mess of a man.]
[He had been briefed on the residents of the manor and what he was supposed to be teaching, as the master of the house wanted his maid taught some VERY exotic dishes, ones that would be impossible to try to learn out of a book or off the internet
although Pierre was fairly certain nobody around here had a computer.]
It has been a hassle and a half, I can tell you that much. [Pierre agreed with a meek chuckle, now staring at the girl and then at his suitcase.]

actually, could you help me out just a tad more? Do you have a kitchen I can use?

I’m-- very sorry to hear.
[She let out a nervous chuckle, unsure of how to react or what to say. Normally, the people she met that came by knew their way around Trampoli quite quickly. But, knowing that this case is slightly different, she couldn’t blame him.]
Tabatha is a very sweet girl, so I know she’ll give you time to unpack. You can head to the De Sainte Coquille manor in no time! [She looks around, only to find nobody in sight.]
Depending on where you live, it could get quite problematic traveling all the way there to Trampoli, and... [Hearing his words choke between sobs, Rosetta widens her eyes in surprise.] O-oh! There’s nothing to worry about, I promise!
[Now, the real question is: how can she make this better? He just arrived here with no guidance, not even his phone has the service at the moment!]
Are you blind, kid?
[Pierre could not feel any more like an idiot. Blinking slowly and pocketing his phone he uses his now free hand to rub at his face and stare at the Inn LITERALLY NEXT DOOR with a look of contempt.] I
oh gosh- you must think I’m so dense–
[Turning to the girl he looks almost frantic, especially since his usually well ironed suit jacked and buttoned wrong and his hair is messy and standing in every direction.]
I’m supposed to be mentoring the chef at the De Sainte Coquille manor and– and the trip here had NOT been very pleasant.
[A choking sob escapes his lips.]
– and on the train they made me eat
a TV dinner–! It was the worst thing! The absolute worst!

[Standing outside the younger woman's shop, when he notices her start to approach he waves his arms wildly.] Ma'am! Do you have a moment? [Rolling his suitcase behind him, and clutching his cell phone in the other he sighs, obviously looking very distraught.] I'm trying to find the Inn but I'm getting absolutely no reception on my phone and can't pull up maps-- can you point me in the right direction?
[Before Rosetta could grab the box of chalk from the counter, she turns around to see the stranger who called out. She nods and forms a friendly smile, walking over to the boy at the door.] Of course I do! ♫
[She listens attentively to his explanation, nodding along to his words. Rosetta takes a few steps outside of the store, not too far from the door.] Sunshine Inn is right over there! [Points directly to their right, which locates the Inn’s building.]

It was ironic with how the tables have turned. Taken aback by his words, she looked at him with eyes that looked the complete opposite of intimidating. She turned away, shrugging at Danny’s suggestion. If it could help her relieve the stress, maybe it was worth a try. Did he really care that much?
She shook her head from the thought, then nodded. Maybe he was right; maybe he knew what was best for her at that moment. It was difficult to convey it into words and actions, so what was the point of rambling now? And besides, Materia was eventually going to open. If she were to break down in front of a customer, that wouldn’t be a pretty image. Danny seemed perfectly fine, so she might as well leave him to it to keep her cool. The question was... how could she?
With the paper still in Rosetta’s hand, she opened the letter again, hardly able to see her father’s writing. She folded it thoroughly into a small square before shoving it into her pocket. “...You’re right,” she muttered. “I...I’ll be back in a few.”
The sound of the wood squeaked as she walked towards the door. Once she stopped her feet, the whole room was silent. Rosetta turned to her heel, forming a reassuring smile that she pained to pull off. “Promise me you’ll take care of the store while I’m gone?”

It wasn’t an easy topic to talk about. Not only that it would be time-consuming, but it would probably take days-- maybe weeks for Rosetta to get over a letter. Her father was a stubborn fellow, just like herself. She wouldn’t dare call herself a hypocrite, not even at a time like this.
She let out a deep sigh, hoping that this would be all over soon. Danny was a worker under her wing, and he was responsible for abiding to her tasks and providing assistance everyday. Of course, it would never be fair for her to simply take advantage of him. She couldn’t afford to do that, ever.
“What’s gotten into you all of a sudden? I--I...” Rosetta cracked, shaking her head in disbelief. She knew Danny was a kind person, but she was never accustomed to the fact that they also had lives outside of Materia. Her business was all that mattered- in her book, it was the utmost important priority to maintain.
“Danny...” she trailed off, taking a few steps away from the counter. How could this be worded out, without sounding assertive? “It’s nothing. Just forget you saw anything. You... You can take the day off. I’ll handle everything today.” Perhaps work could soothe her nerves. Bottling her thoughts for a few hours didn’t sound too bad...

Just a few words from a single letter can hold a thousand meanings -- among every meaning, one bought Rosetta into a shriveled mess of disappointment and frustration. She let out a sniffle, lifting her hand to wipe her eyes. They were still wet from the tears and her cheeks were heated red.
The sound of the door creaking open jolted her awake once she stole a glance at who came in. Rosetta placed her hand back to her side, staring down at the floor with hopeless eyes. There was no point in hiding it, considering the fact that Danny had already saw her crying once he came in. She gulped, praying that he would go away.
Although he had a job here, it wasn’t the appropriate time to mention her feelings. Rosetta furrowed her brow. “I’m fine,” she scoffed. She let out another sniff before wiping the leftover tears dry. “Don’t worry about me. The store is going to open soon, so...” Her words trailed off when she turned to the clock.  How was Rosetta supposed to work behind the counter looking teary-eyed, with her emotions all bottled up?

Stay [Danny & Rosetta]
Rosetta had been eyeing her father’s writing, analyzing every word. That morning, by the time the letters came, she rushed outside to the mailbox, digging through the envelopes. In the hopes of finding her father’s letter, she never anticipated to be disappointed. Every word processed into Rosetta’s mind, and pondered there for awhile.
"Business isn’t going too well." Oh, how brutally aching. A seething anger boiled through her veins, along with the feeling of vitriol and frustration. Rosetta let out a sigh, pinching the bridge of her nose. What must her father be doing differently? “Got a complaint or two- but this isn’t the first time. I had an appointment with Edward the other day, and I guess my fever won’t be cured anytime soon. Please don’t worry about me, give it a couple weeks or so.”
Without hesitance, Rosetta grabbed the letter from the counter, crumpling it up slowly. She bit her lip and felt her vision become blurry from the tears already streaming down her cheeks. Rosetta lowered her head as she placed her hand against the seeds shelf. She let out a trembling whimper, muttering to herself between sobs. “I-idiot.”

Rosetta’s father is ill-- again.
She wasn’t exactly sure on how to put it. Judging by his letters, he doesn’t seem too well coping up with the general store business. Compared to the business she tends to at Materia, she isn’t satisfied with his little to no effort-abandoning his responsibilities. It all broke down into the same reason she “ran away" from home, and Rosetta wouldn’t have enough of it.
The recent letter discussed how ill he is feeling, and how the business is going downhill. That’s when Rosetta slipped the letter back into the envelope, packed a few of her things, and rushed to her hometown, Kardia. Hopefully Danny can see the paper attached to her door tomorrow morning.
This is how she is wound up in Kardia’s general store. The sound of the door creaking causes her to steal a glance at who came in. The door reveals a girl with mint green hair tied in pigtails, holding a basket.
“Welcome!” Rosetta grins.

Tumblr media
Humming the tune to a jumpy song she’d heard from Margaret, every so often going a few notes too sharp, Frey’s fingers tightened around the handle of a wicker basket she was holding.
Exploring towns that weren’t Selphia had a certain kind of charm, and unsurprisingly, going on adventures around them was one of Frey’s favoured pastimes. Which, of course, lead to lots of loot; the reason she was now outside of Kardia’s general store.
Taking one hand away from the basket, she pushes open a heavy door, and takes a step inside.
“Excuse me! Is anyone in?”
