Luhan’s a tough guy but in this moment he’s really not. He’s just a guy who’s facing his own mortality, being locked away and suffocating slowly until he is no longer in existence. He’s a guy who’s finally seeing the man he loves after over a year of being away, of thinking he’d never get this chance. It’s bitter sweet but at least he has this.
All he could think about was thank god for those damned abilities. He didn’t say a word as Kai moved towards him, grabbing him and nuzzling into him. Luhan grabbed him, holding the man for dear life. God he wished he had more time.
It was at the sound of Kai’s voice that truly broke him, he let himself get choked up.
“Kai,” he muttered, gripping and pulling him even closer so that he could put his head into Kai’s neck. “I love you.” The words of a man who was clearly accepting his last hour in the arms of the man he loves.
He knew very well if Kai were to pull back and look up, the numbers he’d see would be low and decreasing by the second. God, how long did he really have?
“I’m so sorry.”

A soft almost sad chuckle left his lips, god just being able to hear him with his own two ears was just so damn good. It was so easy to take things for granted and boy had he, he had done this to himself. He had pushed and woken the sleeping beast, magnifying it’s anger. Now all he has was this small moment.
He turned his head, this looked just like kai’s old apartment. It was definitely of similar make. Surely the wolf wouldn’t have chosen to live so close to Kai, actually, he takes that back, yes he would.
“I think he lives in one of the Sunna apartments.” He moved, finally standing on his own two feet and moving towards his door. As he opened it, he let his head rest against it. What a dick.  “He lives in 2D.”
He refused to stay, this wasn’t his home and as he looked back in, it was clearly written everywhere that this was Marrok’s domain. “I’m going to yours, I can’t be here.” He let the door shut behind him as he shuffled, knowing exactly where he was going.
It had been months since he actually walked, it was usually being pushed into his body and then the immense pain began. This kind of freedom, he never thought he’d have it again.
“I don’t have long, it’s the full moon.”

He feels like he’s not really alive, that if he were to move, to get up it would all be taken from him and he’d be trapped once again. It’s been a few minutes of lying in his bed, or Marrok’s bed really, it’s taken him that long to come down from the suffocating feeling. From being force pushed back into his body. He knows what time of the month it is, he knows this routine well. Get pushed back in just in time for his body to start splitting in half for the wolf to appear.
He moves his head to the side, catching the clock. He’s more than shocked, not that his face would portray it. He has time. an hour at the least before things start progressing. Why? Marrok isn’t a kind being, there’s a reason for this, not that he’ll find out but it’s time he can use. He knows he hasn’t got long left, if he can use this now just to help at least get Kai closure, he’ll use it and take it.  Luhan reaches into his pants pockets, god it doesn’t even feel like his body anymore. He dials the number, hoping he hasn’t changed it. It rings, at least he has that.
The ringing ceases, and he knows someone has picked up.
“Kai.” He murmurs, god he hopes it’s him.

“Fucking touch me and I’ll rip your throat out.” He bit out as they moved to grab at him, his voice dropping an octave, a slight growl to it. It was almost comical to think that both Kai and himself had the same thought. He’d catch a whiff of them, he’d find these body guards and systematically take them out. The less protection Kai had, the better.
“I’m fucking going.” He let them get close, he didn’t exactly know they would be taking a whiff of him but either way, it worked for him as well.
“I’m sure I’ll see you all around,” they grabbed onto his shoulders but he shrugged damn hard as he moved to leave. He had work that night anyways, he’d just go and get ready for that.

“We’ve been playing for years, why stop now and just when it’s getting so much fun.” He dragged out the last word, eyes remaining fiercely on Kai’s. Neither man planning on backing down, it simply wasn’t in their nature.
“Just think, I brought him here to say goodbye and this is the reception that I get.” He hissed back dropping the happy tone he had used just seconds before. “Maybe next time you’ll be a bit more aware of your surroundings, now you don’t even know how long you’ve got. Shame.”
“Since I’m clearly not welcome here, I think I’ll take my business elsewhere. Don’t want to stress myself or my other friend out before the fullmoon and all. Now if you fine men would excuse a silly wolf, I’ve got places to be and people to fuck.” He moved to shove past Kai, knowing full well he’d get shoved back.

Oh, this was much more fun! The man before him looked a shell of who he used to be. So quick to anger, so hurt and upset. Perfect! Oh this was wonderful. Marrok was a man run by anger and pain but right now, even though Kai was pushing his body around he felt absolutely joyful. This now felt like a pre-emptive strike, a warning of more to come.
“Lashing out at a poor customer who just wanted to partake in this fun game, what kind of owner are you?” He had seen the increase in attention, something he could use. The security didn’t bother him, not yet at least but he would have to remember just how quickly they were to respond.
He walked forward back towards him, standing not far off of him before whispering.
“Catch his numbers any chance? Kind of low don’t you think.” He was egging him, he didn’t need to see numbers to know Luhan’s were low. He could feel it. How he had shrunk so far back as if giving up just at seeing his lovely Kai and having him ripped away.

As Kai grabbed and ripped at his shirt and hair, he knew where his body was going to end up. It was as simple as letting his mind go numb for a second and allowing the suffocating siren scratch his way back to the top as his body was yanked to the ground. As Kai spoke, clearly angry and aggressive it was clear that he hadn’t noticed the change in font above the body’s head.
Blue eyes, struggled to focus on the ground after hitting quite hard, he hadn’t been prepared. He tried to breathe in and out but still felt as though he was drowning in his own silence. He looked up, trying to concentrate on the angry figure above him before he felt it all start to be ripped away from him.
“No,” he gasped, his chest tightening, constricting. He was gasping for air, anything he could to try and remain in his body but he felt his conscious being ripped out from under him. Blue eyes fading back to black and then, the gasping stopped and the man stood. He shook off what little ache he had acquired from falling awkwardly.
He dusted his shoulder off and then smirked. No, he wasn’t going to play this game, not yet. Just a tease of who was still there, for the moment at least.
“Maybe you can play with him at a later date.”

Ah, there he is. Who would have thought the Kitsune would have the balls to straight up approach him. He certainly smelt a tad different than the last time, there wasn’t even a hint of Luhan on him. He should have foreseen that, what an obvious thing to miss. His eyes had instantly narrowed for a micro second upon seeing the man.
Oh how he wanted to just end him, wouldn’t this be such a fitting place and yet no, this was not the time. He could feel Luhan digging his claws in, the aching in his brain intensifying. No, that damned veela still had a grip on this body, just barely but it was clear he still had time to go before he could fully squash him out and he wanted Kai to be around for that.
So, he bit his tongue, exhaled and calmed his racing heart.
“Go annoy some other beast, I’m hear to win some fucking money and that’s it. Rack off.”

God, how long had it been since he’d stepped into this subpar casino. Last time he was here he had given away himself, he certainly wasn’t planning on making that mistake now. He was simply casing it out, checking to see where that Kitsune would be, if he was here at all. If he wanted to start fucking with the man he needed intel, his least favourite thing. Marrok was more a man of action.
With a dark hoodie on and sunglasses, yes he was aware he looked stupid but it was best not to be visibly recognisable through the cameras, he moved to one of the slot machines. This was the least action packed area of the casino, nothing overly strange went on here and security hardly moved through.
He threw in some coins and went to work whilst his attention drifted around the halls. He peeked between machines, looking and scouting the security presence as well as if he could see that brat walking around the floor. He had to remain unseen after all. That is, until he felt someone saddle up beside him. He honestly looked to them as if to say, what the fuck? There were numerous machines down this line and they had chosen to sit right next to him.
“Really?”

This guy cared far too much for his liking in that moment, it was his job after all. Getting attached was a fools mistake, who needed all that on one’s conscience. Do the job, get out and live your life. He sincerely hoped this man wasn’t about to start ranting about moral compasses and all that jazz. He didn’t care, humans were terrible creatures that were far too selfish for their own good. The more that moved on, the better.
Ironically he could have opened his mouth at that moment to say, why yes he had in fact dumped someone’s body in a landfill but perhaps testing a reaper wasn’t wise on his first day. He had bigger fish he wanted to fry. That being said, ah what a pleasant memory to be brought fourth. Definitely one of his finest, ridding this world of utter trash. Who were they to call themselves the finest pureblooded werewolf families in the world. Inbred mutts, that’s what they were. Nothing but a pack of wolves that used their human forms to reek havoc on those who did not ask for it, to create animals to be trapped behind a human. He was seething as his mind wandered, his goals taking the forefront of his mind.
His nails dug into the box, nostrils flaring before he was able to even attempt to restrain his emotions. Refraining from snapping was a difficult thing for him, he was very much a slave to his emotions. Bite first was a mantra the wolf had lived by since his creation. What did get his mind from such thoughts was the corporation the reaper worked for being brought up. Of course he worked for a company, the irony that over the past four months before moving back he had worked for a reaper corporation but not in the legal sense.
He had needed money for this trip and doing the dirty work for Wang Mei. She paid good, he did a good job, he had no problems with her. In fact, he liked to think she was rather fond of his good work. They didn’t bullshit each other, as far as he could tell. She at least didn’t treat him like a pet, he was a damned hard worker.
He ripped open his box, his eyes crinkling slightly. Clothing, more specifically, Luhan’s clothes. He needed this easily accessible for his little plan. As he moved to put them in his room, he could hear the invitation. His lips twitched upwards.
“Sounds good to me, might be good to have someone pushing you and more so you pushing me. Not that I think I’ll get lazy but it doesn’t hurt to have that encouragement to push further.”

Ah Pidvone Misto, a familiar place if only from his last month at Insolitus. The last time he had stepped foot in this underwater city was to fuck with the Kitsune ironically he had returned for the very same reason. This time it wasn’t just fuck about, no, this was to start the end of his final goal. Any attachment that the Siren once had would be gone and it would be fucking glorious.
He could feel the tightening in his throat, the ripping feeling in his brain, most would assume to be a migraine but he knew better. Luhan, that traitorous siren that used to call this body his home. Ah, so he had caught a glimpse, he knew exactly where his body was now. It was cruel, Marrok allowing such small glimpses for the siren to see, just as he did with the death of Luhan’s parents, the fear in his little sisters eyes as she thought herself to be killed. Luhan knew exactly why Marrok was here. Fuck with Kai one last time, truly make him wish he was dead and then, grant him that wish. He had it all timed out after all.
In two months with the rate Luhan’s conscious was unable to push forward and take control, he would be gone and locked away forever and Marrok would be one hundred percent in control. He would be free. Kai would be there to see it, he was practically walking on air with excitement. You could literally not see him in a better mood.
The casino would be his next stop, he had plenty of time to enjoy this. He was hungry, he had skipped breakfast, a clear mistake now that he thought back on it but whatever, he enjoy seafood so it wasn’t a problem.
This on the other hand was a problem. Who walked so slow? He had been marching along the street and now he was stuck behind some fucking disabled dude with a cane.
“Could you walk any slower!” Marrok was a man who could be ticked off at the drop of a hat, or in this case getting stuck behind someone walking slower. instant mood killer, he simply had no patience for this. It was even worse when it was clear they were moving towards the same place.
Then he opened his mouth, spewing literal bullshit. Marrok had a youthful face, he had become quite aware of that and yes he hated it, hated that he would still have at least one reminder of luhan. However he knew for a fact that he did not look like a child. He purposely went out of his way to dress like a man who meant business. Black jeans, not overly tight, not baggy either but form fitting. Dress shoes that were paid in blood money, they had cost a pretty penny but more importantly his shirt and coat were clearly not cheap.
The door was opened for him and he was right pissed. He shoved passed, making sure to jar the other up against the door as he did so.
“Take that cane and shove in right up your ass you crippled cunt before I use it to smear your your brains across this door.” He flashed his canines, his eyes darkening with intensity. He could feel his were blood running hot, his muscles coiling ready to be used at any moment.
The Manners of Mutts | Luca & Marrok
Long and arduous terrible days were only that much longer and much more arduous when plagued by the presence of others, any and all others who today in particular seemed to exist for no other purpose than to make his life that much more difficult, for once, the beleaguered sea creature more than willing to simply clock out at the end of his eight hours, call it a day, leave the place behind and head back to his sanctuary in Siniy Square where thankfully he could lock the door. He had at last, thanks to his hawkeyed (and rather smug now that he was thinking about it) supervisor insisting he go home, reached the last of the boxes to unpack, a place for everything and everything in its place, and had done a little bit of grocery shopping after putting the final touches on his Neoclassical Revival and deciding where his personally painted seascapes were to be hung, nothing left on his list of little to-dos but to enjoy his surroundings, perhaps open a bottle of wine, put on some music and cook himself a nice meal. It was not that he was sick of the sushi place in town already or any of the other little cafes and bistros dotting Pidvone Misto’s underwater cityscape, but sometimes there was definitely something to be said for solitude, not having to smile politely at a well meaning hostess who looked at him with pity when she asked ‘dinner for just one?’, not having to worry about the chefs in the kitchen absolutely butchering what was usually a long and complex order, and not having to pretend to be very very interested in his phone or tablet to discourage wanderers from coming to his table to say hello and welcome him to the neighborhood when they did not recognize his face.
Well let’s see what’s on the menu tonight… What did I buy and what am I in the mood for? Crab Cioppino with shrimp and clams sounds lovely and I am in the mood for something Italian, but it’s a bit too warm for a stew, I think and if I spend all that time over the stove, the house is going to be unbearably hot. Hmm. It does take a rather great deal of patience and effort to make the broth for– oh at least eight hours, I don’t have eight hours and I don’t have any pre-made stock that’s been properly seasoned and infused so that’s out, then. That’s a weekend meal when I have all day to do that and bread too, I should pick up some more garlic while I’m thinking about that. If I head into town and pick up some red pepper too that I forgot about entirely, I could make squid pizza with a saffron aioli and then I wouldn’t need to make myself an appetizer, I could use the leftover aioli for vegetable dip and some lemon gelato for dessert would go with that quite nicely and then I don’t have to make that either. Well that settles that then, that’s what I’ll have and a nice Moscato spritzer is very end of summer and the peachy citrus notes won’t clash with the lemon…
So deeply entrenched in his thoughts the entire way to the little gourmet market, the man’s pondering pulling every last bit of his focus that wasn’t currently being used for watching other drivers, pedestrians, dogs, and any other variables that might have been floating about, until at last his vintage Mercedes convertible had pulled itself neatly into the closest available parking space designated for the less able-bodied, the engineer grabbing his cane and slipping out of the driver’s side with his mind very much still occupied and a terribly focused look on his distinguished and handsome features. Red pepper, a little bag of garlic cloves, maybe a few nice shallots if I do decide to make that Cioppino this weekend. Thankfully, that only required a stop to one particular area, the produce department, before he was ready to leave and let himself unwind and relax with a well-deserved culinary adventure in his own lovely home, about to head inside and make haste with getting in, getting what he needed and getting back out again when a sneering voice caught the merman’s attention and caused him to turn around with a stonefaced expression that offered no friendliness in his normally warm eyes.
Could you walk any slower?
“As a matter of fact, yes I could,” Luca smiled a bit tensely with those dark mahogany orbs of his narrowing in their lids and not in a generally pleasant sort of gesture that accompanied one of his more genuine expressions of happiness either, his gaze taking stock of the sight of the stranger in an entirely unhurried manner as if he was sizing him up and appraising him, that irritated closed-mouth turning up of his lips melting into a sarcastic smirk as a scoff sounded from somewhere in the back of his throat. Bloody teenagers and their angsty faux-rebellious natures, the whole group of them should have been shipped out to the wilderness to become feral if that’s how they were going to act, practically half there already with their loud music and destructive habits, not to mention their complete and utter lack of self-awareness and that hideous odor he had come to find out was called Axe, whatever that was. “I’m sorry to be keeping one of our fine local youth from returning home to his middle-school science project in a timely fashion, but the world doesn’t revolve around you, Sport and you should have done it earlier instead of waiting until the night before your due date, your laziness is none of my concern. If you cannot be patient, you might want to consider leaving the house earlier, I’m sure your mother that is waiting for you in the parking lot in her van would be appalled at how brashly you speak to your elders. Perhaps I should take up even more of your valuable time once I have finished errands of my own, and go over to give her a few pointers regarding how you might be better raised. Impetuous sniveling brat. Well go ahead–”  the sea creature rolled his eyes as he stood aside to hold the door open, tapping his foot impatiently against the sidewalk.
“– You first, I insist, since you’re apparently in some dire need of Elmer’s paste and craft glitter in the supply section and the world simply cannot get in your way lest you throw a tantrum. Perhaps it would better improve your situation by me leading by example so you can learn how a gentleman behaves.” Drumming his fingers against the cushioned grip of the cane he walked with, Luca very slowly counted to five and exhaled deeply in a flurry of tiny saltwater bubbles coming from his gills, taking the moment to remind himself that work was… well it was somewhere back there, he had left it behind, had the rest of the night off and there was no need to bite someone’s head off in a random happenstance encounter that would be over soon enough once he had gotten his items and went on his merry way. It was going to be a two-spritzer night it seemed before he put the television on in his office and sat down with his drafts and his formulas and drawings, the water-dweller hoping for some David Attenborough ocean wildlife documentary on one of the educational channels that provided relaxing enough visuals without the distraction of too much noise.
“Hurry it along, malcontent. I have it on good authority that you do not have all night.”
