Really like the style, I'm quite fond of piano-driven stuff. The songs build really nicely and the lyrics certainly have an emotional power to them.

Posted Sealed Delivered: An EP by Marlee Grace
‘It starts with a story, a feeling or emotion. From there the song seems to write itself as the story longs to be told.’
From the south western rural city of Warrnambool, Marlee Grace grew up doing musicals and performing; writing songs on the side. Having learnt violin and piano, falling in and out of practicing, as curious children do, she realised singing to be her passion.
It really began when a short attention spanned primary school girl joined the school choir to escape the realms of boredom in class, naive of the love she would develop for singing as a result. From then on she had caught the ‘musical theatre bug’ and was always performing in musicals and writing songs whenever the opportunity arose.
Upon emerging into the city of Melbourne, Marlee found herself performing with various bands at venues including The Bendigo, John Curtin, Evelyn, Gasometer and Tote hotels as well as Etihad Stadium, The Lighthouse Theatre and Studio, and The Toff in Town. She also performs as the lead singer of the children’s entertainment band ‘The Luna Moonies’, having performed at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre as well as various shopping centres, soon to appear Luna Park.
With her original indie folk music, telling her personal stories and experiences acquired whilst living in the big smoke, Marlee has decided to collaborate with fellow musicians to produce her debut original EP, Posted Sealed Delivered. Her music has a quirky, playful touch whilst conveying tales from her own unique perspective.
According to Chris Pickering, Marlee Grace ‘shows a lot of promise as a young songwriter with a different voice and a left-of-centre approach to her songwriting. Showing the influence of both Kate Bush and Kate Miller-Heidke, she is definitely one to watch’.
Having a style similar to that of Kate Miller-Heike in the way she uses her songs to convey a story, message or provoke deeper thinking and introspect, Marlee Grace’s music still possesses a distinct sound. Her works tell stories like folk music whilst incorporating elements of piano ballads as well as the raw, natural sound of instruments to accompany her creatively expressive vocals.
Posted, Sealed, Delivered describes a short lived relationship with a soldier who was posted away. The song entails how although a person may seem perfect, it’s under difficult circumstances that their flaws are unveiled. The reminiscent lyrics depict the heartache of losing someone close with an outlook that combines both a cynicism and optimism.
The struggles of battling internal conflicts that cause an individual to lose their sense of control as their thoughts and desires contradict what one needs to live a normal lifestyle is addressed by Demonic Conscience. The lyrics beg to be freed from the corrupted thoughts that interfere with one’s sense of reality and ultimately their perception on life.
Cardigan acts as a metaphoric representation of Marlee’s unique view on life. Stemming from an inside joke about the deceitfulness that can arise from ‘jumping’ between stories and lies, altering them for different crowds. The term ‘jumper’ then morphed into ‘cardigan’ which then unveiled a song about moving on and refusing to get caught up in other people’s deceit.
The song J-Walk entails the difficulties learning to drive in the city in comparison to a rural town. Marlee was casually driving to band rehearsal and caught herself cursing at pedestrians who dared to illegally cross the road in front of her. Her passenger then drew to her attention that she walks through red lights when she is a pedestrian herself. This caused Marlee to pose the philosophical question to herself ‘does the severity of a crime differ between circumstances?’. Why is it socially acceptable to jaywalk as opposed to running a red light? J-Walk then becomes a metaphor for the irony of different rules being bendable in only specific circumstances, with the title itself being spelt differently for emphasis; a grammatical error that would be frowned upon in an essay, yet is socially acceptable in the circumstances of a song title.
With the Posted Sealed Delivered presenting original songs that offer an introspective view to Marlee’s obscure perspective on the world, it’s certainly an  collection of easy listening, catchy songs that will get you thinking.
