No wonder the wizard world in Harry Potter feels so stagnated, really. They don’t learn about geography or math or the history of the world. Everyone muggle born person’s education beyond magic stopped at age 11.
What education does the wizard born have before 11? Are there magic elementary schools where they at least learn to read or something?

i tried to explain what generational trauma is to someone recently and they were like “oh so because something happened historically, you get to have issues about it now?” and no.... that’s not what that is.
when i was in 8th grade, on my class trip to washington dc, we visited the holocaust museum. it’s a wonderful, extensive, informative place, and it’s a beautiful tribute to the victims. as a jewish kid, i knew what the holocaust was. i’d faced antisemetism every day of my life, and will continue to do so. i knew what had happened to my ancestors not too long ago.
but when i stood in that museum. in the recreation of the cattle trains used to move us to the camps. in the recreation of an auschwitz cabin, staring at the map of the camp. when i saw the pile of shoes and jewelry taken from the victims. when i learned how their hair, so very much like mine, was cut for having texture. and how their teeth were pulled for the gold fillings. i had a panic attack.
it was embarrassing, but i was a shitty little 8th grader, and i tried to hide it. but I couldn’t breathe. it was like there was a band around my chest the entire time i was in the museum. i was surrounded by ghosts, by the whispers of emaciated men and trapped women and crying children.
what is generational trauma?
it’s the psychological idea that trauma can be passed down through multiple different ways. trauma can change you significantly, even rewrite neural pathways and physically change how you think. that, paired with the cycle of subconsciously sharing our trauma with our children, as well as mixing with the trauma we learn as we grow, leads to some really rough patches in our relationships with our identites.

this is a really great 4 minute video from the healing foundation about the trauma carried by aboriginal people in Australia. tw for some really heavy topics, but all presented in a relaxed and serious environment.
what do we do?
well, honestly, i don’t know. it’s not like we’re gonna stop sharing our stories with our descendants, nor our histories. we can’t get rid of things related to our identities that give us our own trauma, the bigotry we face unfortunately isn’t going anywhere.
but being aware of your generational trauma is a good step. it’s not just being “sad” or “sensitive” to history. it’s our history still affecting us today. when your indigenous friends are made upset by discussions of colonization, when your black friends feel the weight of a millenia of racism placed on their shoulders, when your gay friends ask you to please stop using that word, when your trans friends see another historical figure deadnamed and misgendered, when your jewish friends can’t talk about the Shoah without their voices breaking.
so why the fuck are you lecturing us?
our murdered ancestors live on in us, in our eyes, our hearts. we are reminded of them constantly, made painfully aware of who we are and how many people hate us.
we were not supposed to survive, and if most of the world had their way, we wouldn’t have. (no, the allies were not heroes of wwii, you turned us away at your borders and continue to let us die from nazis today. if america had had the option, they wouldn’t have given a shit about jewish victims, but that’s a whole other essay i could write)
it’s time to start acknowledging the past, acknowledging your generational trauma and the trauma of those around you. i’m not making up an excuse to “have issues”. at the time i’m writing this, october 2020, i’m 17. i have felt this weight my entire life, and i will continue to shoulder it, as will everyone else.
my point is, maybe we can shoulder that weight together. maybe then it won’t weigh us down as badly. we have solidarity, and we are tough, and resilient, and strong, and beautiful. your generational trauma is something to be aware of, but not ashamed of. we can do this—change the world for the better. we can break the cycle so our descendants don’t feel as we do.

The fact that i can’t hold them, touch them, caress or even look into their eyes pisses me off so much. It gets so frustrating to know that they are so far away, that no matter what I do I can’t just easily reach out and touch their arms when they need it. To be what helps them feel grounded, that’s what I strive to be for them, someday a grounding and a place they feel secure and comfortable with. I want to be their home.

PSA: Tracking down stolen work:
As you all probably are aware, people have found their work has been stolen by user @palomazuniga on Wattpad in a book titled “Fred and George Weasley (Imagines and one shots)” Several writers, including @harrysweasleys and more have had their work taken and reuploaded without consent or awareness that this was happening. I’m really happy that the writers involved are reaching out to the person doing this in order to, hopefully, get credit - or even better - get the work taken down, but I wanted to find the other writers and give credit where it’s due. Well. This is certainly not how I imagined spending my morning, but here we are. I know this is a long post. Some of the authors who have been tagged here may even already know that their work has been taken. My hopes in making this post are that the authors mentioned here will take action on their own with the knowledge that the writing community here will back them up every step of the way. I hope that this person (whom I assume is either a child or a very childish person) takes the work down or at the least comes clean about stealing the stories. It breaks my heart to know that this “book” has been raking in readers, comments etc with this person taking credit meanwhile the actual writers who put in the hours of writing, editing and publishing have no idea. I’m hoping this also serves as a sort of fic rec list where you can all go and read/re-read these stories and give the original authors some love. God knows they deserve it!
I’ll be making a tiktok and tagging some people who make weasley related content in order to maybe spread some more awareness there since the majority of people on weasley tiktok seem to prefer wattpad over tumblr (only god knows why but that’s their fish to fry)

Robert Downey Jr. has a much darker past, we have read it and we already know it, but he is hiding it from us doing an overly proud demeanor.
Chris Evans has anxiety and major commitment issues, he talks about it and we already know it, but he always has his radiant smile drawn on his face to hide from us.
Chris Hemsworth's family life was once at a risk of divorce with kids, but he and Elsa managed to keep it afloat despite all obstacles, and they are going for a happily ever after like nothing happened.
Jeremy Renner has done wrong in his past, caught into a false accusation, but now he has his daughter's custody and he lives a peaceful life, even without us knowing.
Scarlett Johansson, abused as a child actress, has to do romantic scenes with actors twice her age during her teenage, going marriage after marriage with her daughter, but yet scored a double Academy nominations and continues to be a role model for girls all around the world.
Tom Holland, with the pressure of rising to the fame as a child, he still continues to entertain the world even though his fans are somewhat childish and very intrusive.
Sebastian Stan, an immigrant who lacked social skills in the past, incredibly shy and yet hide all those from his fans because he knows that they all love him dearly.
Mark Ruffalo, continues to save the world by going against all those big companies as an environmentalist, has a really strong political opinion, but yet being so down to Earth around us.
Brie Larson, facing all backlash from the social media, for voicing her heartfelt opinion, still going on to inspire young girls around the world to stand up for themselves.
Last but not least, Chadwick Boseman, giving his best for 4 Marvel Movies (Civil War, Black Panther, Infinity War and the Endgame) and 3 Non Marvel Movies (Marshall, 21 Bridges and Da 5 bloods) from 2016, while having stage 4 colon cancer, fighting until he was succumbed to the death. And we never knew.
Be nice and kind to everyone, not only in the various social media platforms, but also in the real life. Because we really don't know what is going in their lives.
Once you realise that, you maybe too late to even correct your mistakes. ❤🙏
