copper-penny:
“You’re welcome,” Penelope said politely when the woman thanked her. Now that she was closer, she recognized her as Mara Wilde, the town’s Medical Examiner. She’d seen her around town, and read about her in the papers, but had never met the woman up close. Despite this, there was something familiar about her; something about the way she carried herself.
“What? Oh, yes, I’m fine,” Penelope said, realizing she still had her hand on her sore shoulder. She lowered it. “It’s just a little sore. Whiskey really wanted to get back to her mama.” She smiled. “She’s a beautiful dog. How long have you had her?”
Tumblr media
“Yes. She’s a strong one,” Mara said, scratching behind Whiskey’s ears before turning to the other. As much as Mara was annoyed at her dog for going off like that, she was glad to be reunited with Whiskey. The dog was a pain in the ass in more ways than one. But Mara couldn’t help loving her. “Thank you. Three years now. But she still thinks she’s a puppy so there’s that.”

rorydarlington
Watching the officer wheel in the sheet covered body into the room. For some reason, the body brought a cloud of gloom in with it. When the office left, she noticed the hesitation of Mara. Letting a breath pass her lips, calmly wandering over to the other side of the body.
There had been a couple things Rory has never shared with Mara, one of them being she was a witness to a murder a year ago. She drew the man that committed the crime.  “If I did that Jeb would never let me live it down, how boring staring at a naked man in his mid-thirties. When I can be helping the dead by giving the living the answers they need” She replies, trying to get a peak of the dead man. She knows the bodies will stay with her forever, it’ll get easier she repeats to herself. “Do I really seem normal to you?” she asks placing her hands on the edge of the slab the man is on, looking directly at Mara.
Tumblr media
“No, not really. But I’m sure Jeb could stand to grow up a little. Mid-thirties is not that old. The male form is a beautiful thing. Something to be admired. Female too, we don’t discriminate here.” She mused, pulling on a pair of blue latex gloves. “Would certainly save you from the smell. But then again, I’m the last person to have a say in that sort of thing. I’m not exactly the poster child for wise career decisions.” She said, pinning a pen behind her ear.
“Have you ever heard of those cases where the poor crazy cat lady drops down dead, only to have her face eaten off by all her lovelies? If not, you’re in for a treat.” Mara said, pulling back the thin white sheet and finally exposing the body. That was as much as she was willing to build up for Rory. She wasn’t here to hold hands. But this particular case was enough to make Mara’s own stomach turn - something not so easily done.

southby:
Southby stared after the suggestion she’d suggested but saw nothing. To be perfectly honest, he hadn’t seen an inch of the dog described but he still wanted to be of some use. “No,” He interjected, taking a step after her. “I can help you find ‘em. What’s his name?” He asked sobering as he took a step after the woman. “I could go back in & grab a cheese burger or something?” He added, trying to prove his worth as his eyes shifted this way & that.
Tumblr media
“Her name is Whiskey.” Mara very much doubted he would be of any help to her. But she certainly wasn’t going to wait around to find out. She paused. “Fine, burger. But no cheese. I’m headed that way.” She nodded towards the other side of the street. “Meet me if you can keep up.” With that she moved past him. The faster she could find this damn dog, the faster Mara would be out of the cold. She hadn’t dressed to be out this long and she certainly wasn’t starting a search party any time soon.

linkxarmitage
With his hood neatly tucked over his head, and a fresh split on his eyebrow still oozing blood, Link sat propped up by his motorbike. Really he should have been getting home, considering the morning held school runs and work, but nevertheless he was chain smoking outside the remains of the Goldrush Motel. Link had a knack for recognising what he should have been doing, and instead doing an entirely different thing. Then again he’d just been punched in the face three different fights, didn’t he deserve an hour time out.
He didn’t spot the dog until it was almost up in his face, Lincoln deciding to not make friendly, and really not make any sudden movements at all. The sound of a whistle a comforting sign, meaning that the dogs owner was somewhere nearby. And in the spirit of getting the dog something else to focus on, Link got up slowly from his position and moved further into the street. “Hey!” he called out at the sight of a figure down the street. “This dog that wants to eat me yours or what?”
Tumblr media
Mara’s head lifted at the sound of someone calling out to her, the woman letting out a sigh of relief once she caught sight of her dog. She shook her head to herself before approaching him. “Yeah, sorry about her.” She bent down to reattach Whiskey’s leash, her nose scrunching up when the dog attempted to lick her face. “Stop that. I’m mad at you,” she spoke to the dog this time, pushing the dog away from her face. Mara had swore up and down that she would never be that person who talked to her dog. But that was before she’d gotten a dog. “Sorry again,” Mara said, straightening up once the dog was secured. “And don’t worry. She wouldn’t have eaten you...much.”
