Easy and Important Read for Anyone Serving on a Board For anyone serving on or working to get onto a corporate, non-profit or faith community board, I recommend The Imperfect Board Member. While my Berkeley MBA class on boards provided an excellent summary of board membership, The Imperfect Board Member presents the material is a much easier to understand format and provide easy to remember take-aways. Go to Amazon
Easy to read concepts This book is written as a story which makes it interesting and seems very true to life. The Journey you are taken on teaches as it tells and by the end you have a good overview of what good Governance could look like. Perfect for a business embarking on this big step for the first time" Go to Amazon
Good read for employees Great read for organizations working with boards and CEO's; especially for employees like myself to help streamline communication and proper procedures. Go to Amazon
Perfect for Non-Profits For those who can grasp concepts in a story format. The advantage is in demonstrating some basic principles within the ebb-and-flow of interpersonal relationships. Therein lies the real strength of this wonderful book. It is not enough merely to know principles and facts. Anyone functioning at the level of a board chair and CEO can attest to that fact. Often, the key is know ing"how", 'when" and "with what kind of attitude and heart." Jim Brown begins to get at these issues. I would definitely recommend this book to all who work on non-profit boards! Go to Amazon
Childish and sloppy I was looking for books to improve my knowledge around board governance. But I found the fictional characters and narrative in this book to be childish and sloppy. Key points were lost in conversational narrative and I ended up throwing this book in the bin after 5 chapters. Go to Amazon
Moving Board Members From Meddling to Monitoring Jim Brown nails it. With big print, mind-grabbing graphics and a story line in the tradition of Ken Blanchard and Patrick Lencioni books, you'll value the author's seven disciplines in this leadership fable about business boards, nonprofit boards and faith-based boards. Go to Amazon
Accessible concepts, quick read Most books on governance are dense and technical. Brown's approach is perfect for readers who are interested in gaining a general understanding of their role and responsibilities. I would recommend this book as part of new board member orientation and for those who want a refresher course on governance.  Go to Amazon
Great book for all boards I work in a religious organization and it has opened my eyes to how effective/ineffective my board is. This has helped us grow to be better for our church Go to Amazon
Nice to read Four Stars ... book for on boarding new board members and a great resource for existing Board members Five Stars Great Ref Book Simple and good Good parable VERY GOOD

A great introduction to political risk for business students and CEOs As a recent undergraduate business graduate who is transitioning from business to a graduate level education in international affairs and security studies this book is a great introduction to political risk for business students, MBAs, and CEOS or small business owners who have little to no exposure with this topic. Political Risk is an undervalued topic in most business schools almost never touched upon in any way at the undergraduate level and is only recently started to become important at the graduate level. I graduated from a fairly well established business school with an international reputation and upon inquiring about career opportunities in the field of political risk analysis I was meet with confusion and blank stares. Most people at the University had never heard of political risk analysis and if they had they immediately associated it with finance when in reality it is much more than that. This book is a great first step in understanding what political risk analysis is and how businesses and organizations can utilize it for their benefit. Go to Amazon
No Business is too small to be impacted by some kind of Risk that may come from anywhere in the world and for any reason. Excellent Book for every businesses owner, managers and leaders. In today's interconnected, always-on media and communication, anyone armed with a cell phone, or a Twitter or Facebook account, may not only cause political crisis but can also impact even a small business. It is now essential that every business has a better understanding of risks, and of where they may originate. Go to Amazon
Five Stars Enjoyed the book. It is well written. I recommend it. Go to Amazon
CLear information Does a great job of organizing all the factors involved. Go to Amazon
A thorough description of the geopolitical risks in today's world. Well written and insightful. Go to Amazon
Four Stars An interesting and well-organized book, but a little bit obvious on certain chapters, overall worth reading Go to Amazon
Need help. The cover shows up putt goes no further. It is the first problem I have experienced with all my Kindle books. Go to Amazon
Primer Every business faces political risk, but not all have tried to manage this risk in an orderly manner. Former United States Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice has written a book with Amy Zegart based on a course that they have taught together at Stanford. Titled, Political Risk: How Businesses and Organizations Can Anticipate Global Insecurity, this is a primer on the steps to follow when managing risk, especially political risk. What could have become a boring business book became enlivened through the stories of the successes and failures of companies described in this book. Go to Amazon
Excellent. Great read. Historical examples bring it home. I'd say this book might be good for big corporation executives who have businesses all over ... Excellent information

Mindfulness, Resilience and Positive Intelligence This is a book about mindfulness and resilience, both very useful concepts that are very difficult to apply. Even if you feel like you have a basic appreciation of the how to be be more mindful and resilient, reading about them again, and considering a slightly different approach to achieving them can’t hurt. Go to Amazon
Fantastic book - IF YOU USE IT. As the writer says, changing your life is only 20% know-how, the other 80% is DOING it. It's like reading about exercising versus doing the exercise. The book is a great guide for making the process of becoming more positive much easier and fact based (rather than fluffy affirmations, etc.) He prescribes a specific daily regimen to help physically make the parts of your brain that are responsible for positivity stronger, and slowly decrease the strength of the negative parts of your brain. Only buy it if you are serious about spending at least 30 days REALLY focusing on this (but only for a few minutes a day throughout the day). If you want a quick feel good book, go watch tv. :-) Go to Amazon
One of the Most Meaningful and Useful Books you will ever read!!!! I am an MD/MBA who has worked in the finance field for over 15 years. I recently decided to make a career transition into the field of clinical informatics/big data analysis which is somewhat new to me and brought with it a bit of uncertainty, risk, and to some degree a nugget of self-doubt. I sought the help of an executive coach to help me with this decision. One of the first things my new coach recommended was that I read the book Positive Intelligence. Since I am already a fan of the field of Positive Psychology, I did not resist this recommendation. Go to Amazon
Very good book for immediate results A very good book, easy to read. It does what it says it does and it does it well, while remaining easily accessible and, most of all, fun to read. I really enjoyed myself reading it. Go to Amazon
Very good read Life-changing book! Excellent. Five Stars Every human should read this. Five Stars Four Stars ONE at a time leaves you happy and satisfied in personal and professional life good if you can't sleep Five Stars

Terrific book! Much of the content is common sense Terrific book! Much of the content is common sense; HOWEVER, the way that it is weaved together AND the principles that emerge along the way are not as obvious. Moreover, the content related to how so many successful companies and organizations have deployed the Pillars of Trust in a manner that transforms the organization in profitable ways is kind of priceless. The organization that I work for has implemented this as part of an effort to transform the culture, and it is working marvelously. The level of creativity and excitement that it has generated among our supervisors is astonishing. Period. Go to Amazon
Trust Edge Good information on developing leaders and an easy, quick read. Go to Amazon
THE TRUST EDGE REVIEW Great thoughts on one of the most important-if not the most important-topics -trust. How can anything get done in any walk of life without it? Must-read for any manager or new employee This is a really useful book filled with sage advice for anyone assuming a leadership position, particularly as a former outsider to the organization. It's filled with reminders that you don't walk in with "the answer," that instead winning the trust and respect of your cohorts is a learning process that you should begin with great intensity. The first half of the book relates directly to someone who is assuming a management role, the next quarter of the book is about what to do as a new employee serving under a boss or bosses (perhaps as a mid-level manager). The last bit of the book gives a brief introduction to strategic thinking and the book concludes with questions to ask yourself (and your family) in evaluating your transition. It is applicable to any firm, church, non-profit, and even (mostly) the government. Go to Amazon
Useful title hampered by Kindle rendering and usability issues I have this title on Kindle, and the issues with it are typical of why I won't buy more Kindle books. Go to Amazon
Very useful tool for transitioning to a new job First shared with me by my new boss, I quickly realized the approach and framework were going to be very useful and purchased my own anniversary copy. I'm 6 weeks into my transition as a senior executive at a new org and I'm finding the process very helpful. From the time you accept your position to crafting a 30-60-90 day plan I highly recommend for all transitioning executives and new managers. Go to Amazon
It works! This book helped me get my next job. After getting caught flat footed in an interview on what is your 90 day plan, I purchased and read this book. While reading it the next opportunity came along and in the interview process I not only had a better answer, I was able to answer from the position of someone who was already onboarding. I've used it and in my first couple of months have been amazing impacting revenue, debt, customer and employee satisfaction out of the gates. An easy read and a great prep for the next opportunity you are facing. Go to Amazon
Must Read for New Managers This was a must-read for me along with "The New Leader's 100-Day Action Plan: How to Take Charge, Build Your Team, and Get Immediate Results" when I started in my first managerial role. Both these books together helped me perform well and gain the confidence of my team members, which is essential for a first time manager (I also look very young, so it was essential to have the appearance of confidence and knowledge of what was expected of me when going into the job). These are the two books I would recommend a new manager/supervisor read before staring their position or while in a position in order to perform better and achieve better results! Go to Amazon
Things you didn't think of, structure to rely on Four Stars If you think this book is for you, just get it. Five Stars Great tips Very good insights Poor quality paper/binding Don’t assume what’s made successful in your previous job will work in your new job. Transition Pocket Guide Great book and very useful.

An Excellent Companion to 'Extreme Ownership' Jocko Willink and Leif Babin scored a hit with their fine, bestselling book, 'Extreme Ownership.' The US Navy Seal officers utilize their personal experiences in the Iraq War to illuminate leadership issues that recur in business and other settings. Go to Amazon
Leadership Lessons Learned in the Most Difficult of Situations As a student of history, I've always believed that lessons learned in battle can be extremely relevant to everyday life. Jocko Willink and Leif Babin have produced an admirable work of business leadership analysis in The Dichotomy of Leadership. This book has an instantly engaging format that starts with a combat experience, followed by a business experience illustrating the same principle, with an insightful examination of each key principle. The leadership insights conveyed in this book are timeless and critical to success from the battlefield to the boardroom. I have no reservations in recommending this book. It is well-written, coherent, organized and entertaining. Go to Amazon

(4.25 stars) Gain insight into how you can lead best so that you can start doing more of it. Before I get into the review, a word of advice to all potential buyers: Unless you have already taken a StrengthsFinder quiz and know your dominant themes, you must buy this book new. A new book comes with an exclusive one-time access code in the back that unlocks an online survey. Your unique survey results will then calculate what your strengths are, so that you can get the most value out of Strengths Based Leadership. Go to Amazon
Buy the hard copy if you want to take the Strength Finder Assessment - the description on lies about giving you a code The description says that you are supposed to get the code to take the strength finder assessment with the book and that the retailer will send it to you. This is not the case. After searching through the other product comments from other buyers, it seems as though I just wasted my money. I need the book for a college class, so unfortunately I will be repurchasing a hard copy of the book. @Amazon - how do I get my money back and why are you allowing shady suppliers to sell on your site? Go to Amazon
DONT BUY THE EBOOK Buy the book from the actual website! Alternatively, if you do get it from Amazon realize that the whopping 32 dollar kindle ebook price tag is useless because you do not get the access code to save your money and buy it new. Honestly, if they are going to upcharge you for an ebook and not give the access code, you might as well buy a used book for $0.94 because that is all the book is worth without access to the website to actually take the quiz needed for the book! Go to Amazon
nice analytical approach I'll be honest... I really don't remember much at all about what's in this book. The main takeaway I remember is to try and play to people's strengths, rather than trying to shore up their weaknesses. Generally speaking people prefer to play to their strengths anyway, so this results in better output and happier people. Go to Amazon
Excellent resource. Your information will be saved on the ... code used Five Stars This does not come with the access code. they ... Ok but Also Boring Master the Talents that Make You Tick Redundant Great book. Especially for those who want to know ... Four Stars Was so happy the book still had the online code,

The increasing speed in the need for transformation, understanding how to "seize the white space" is very important. Never before has "seizing the white space" been more important. But transformation has become increasingly complex as markets accelerate and mature faster than ever. Mark Johnson has taken the complex and made it easy to understand. Not only enjoyable to read, but many kernels of wisdom to help companies take advantage of transformative opportunities. Go to Amazon
Very inspirational.... This book provides a great and practical alternative to the many business model canvasses out there. One of the better books for explaining leadership Have you ever had the experience of a supervisor micromanaging you when you were perfectly capable of doing your tasks without supervision? Have you ever been frustrated because a boss told you to "do the best you can," when you desperately wanted direction? This book is a recipe for the supervisor who has no clue how to lead and needs to learn how to balance company or department goals and while enhancing employee development. It is a practical guide to meeting both agendas rather than many leadership books or courses that simply list the traits and skills a manager should have. Go to Amazon

An interesting book that actually has something new to say about value investing Most investing books are essentially marketing material about how the author buys companies that are not only cheap, but also high-quality and low-risk. Oh and the company has growth potential too! And the chairman of the board isn't a man, he's a unicorn! It drives me crazy because I'm dying to learn something, and all these books do is say, "This is important, and so is this, this and this." The problem is: when you stress the importance of everything, you stress the importance of nothing. Go to Amazon
Take it with a grain of salt. This is an important, interesting, and entertaining book. The author chose a fascinating topic and did a great job describing the historical developments that influenced the evolution of activist investment strategies over time. The book is filled with information and historical facts, is well organized, well written, etc. Overall, a very enjoyable read. Something not easy to accomplish when it comes to finance books. Go to Amazon
Unique Book - A Must Read I've read many, many books on investing. I would easily rank this among the very best. It's tools for valuation - whether a firm has positive or negative income, highly leveraged or no leverage - are unique and indispensable. Not only does this this give you an excellent stock filter, it goes in-depth and lays the case out in detail why deep value investing is superior to other forms of investing. It is a simple thing to understand, but without a conceptual framework for making decisions, a lot of investors get scared out of buying stocks that have had setbacks and thus priced at deep discounts. I saw Tobias's talk at Google, looked up the book on Amazon, immediately purchased and read it, and haven't looked back. This stands apart from other (still excellent) books on investing, as it has a very deep focus on a concept that is well-known but not well understood. Go to Amazon
Very nice book on value investing Very nice book on value investing. I liked the mix of history and deep value investing content providing factual based data. Reading the deep value is well worth the time. With so many investing books out there, I found this book is also fun to read to with history lessons from great investors (like Buffett, Carl Icahn) but mostly a theory supported with evidence/factual based data – which I appreciate. Many thanks Tobias. Go to Amazon
Well worth the read... key insights on what REALLY drives returns from Value Investing Thoroughly enjoyed the book, particularly the last couple of chapters on the Deep Value thesis and the back-tested results to support this. Go to Amazon
Perfect fit for my investing style Perfect fit for my investing style. Eliminate behavioral errors, do what works, no matter how counter-intuitive it might be, Go to Amazon
If you're looking for insight, look elsewhere! Deep Value is the deep value investor’s bible. I invest in stocks listed in Singapore Stock Exchange. ... Persuasive The Irony of the Title I found this analysis of investment strategies to be very ... At last . . . a value investing book with something new to say Five Stars I loved this book

Great book and a must have for a beginning or novice investor! This is a great book! James goes over ton of scenarios and breaks them each down in length of time in the investment. It typically shows 5, 7, and 10 year periods year of year. He covers which metrics are proven to work best and how others have worked over a period of time and then become obsolete. For example many people often looked at PE ratio, he shows that at one time it was a great indicator but lost its staying power over time. James covers the indicators which up to the date of this book have the real staying power and work out best for the investor. In the end, I found this book as a must have for any investor looking to grow their portfolio. If you're a beginner investor you should certainly read this book before investing a dime. I wish I would have! Go to Amazon
Good book Other books offer similar advice. Few books offer advice that's been rigorously tested against as much historical data as possible. Go to Amazon
LOTs to chew on ! If you are into technical trading for your investments, here are the long term results of analysis of many possible strategies. There are LOTs of numbers. Some strategies are clearly superior to others. This book gives you concrete analaysis which ones. You need to be comfortable with your math skills. I highly recommend this book ! Please ensure you KNOW your risk tolerance before investing. Understand that profits and losses are part of the game. Your task is to determine your level of variability that you can sleep with.. then choose a strategy suitable to your age, and appropriate risk tolerance. Go to Amazon
Why Didn't I Buy This Sooner ? This book has turned things around for me. It's just what the dr. ordered. Highly recommended! Combine the skills you attain with this book with some basic Technical Analysis with a focus on Candlestick charting and you'll be on your way. Go to Amazon
Fortunately I was able to get the older copy back ... As this book was also not allowed to be sent to me in Thailand I ended up looking up the person who had borrowed my older copy. Fortunately I was able to get the older copy back and have been working with its information to increase my stock picking strategies and successes. This book is a must read for anyone who wants to have better control over his/her abilities for stocks or Mutual Funds. As it is written for mutual s it is still very applicable to stocks. Go to Amazon
Excellent work to advance the understanding of value investing Excellent work to advance the understanding of value investing. Unfortunately no ready-to-use stock screen is offered, but nevertheless the book gives a great comprehensive rundown of different factors that contribute into value investing over time. Highly recommended for anybody involved with the stock market. Chances are, you will appreciate the time spent on reading this book! Go to Amazon
great book this is one of the two books you need most for investing. the other is swedroe & kizer's alternative investments Go to Amazon
What A Book! A very insightful analysis of the strongest drivers of investment returns. One of the best investment books I have read in recent times. Results shown in the book are based purely from facts and a long history. If it's possible to be in charge of our emotions and invest based on facts, we would win in the market, but this is very hard especially when faced with actual losses staring us in the face. A must read for building leaders within your company So much of Good Authority speaks to the exact circumstances that I experience on a daily basis at my job, much in the same way that  Go to Amazon
Beyond The Foosball Table Culture Finally a book that addresses what is still kind of taboo in the workplace - Intermingling of personal and professional development. Mind you, the author doesn't talk about the extra-curricular activities, team-bonding excursions or the lunch yoga class in your office. It is not some "money isn't the only thing that drives people" rehash either. This is the closest roadmap (that I have come across so far) that shows you how you could build a company culture by working on "People Dynamics" , one person at a time. This is a critical tool for people in positions of authority in the workplace. Go to Amazon
This book should be the bible for “effective leadership” Jonathan’s treatise successfully uncovers many ingrained leadership blind spots (behaviours and habits) that often go undetected resulting in ineffective leadership. I strongly recommend the Good Authority. Anyone who genuinely desires to better understand the underpinnings of influencing others to make positive change for the greater good would appreciate this read. Go to Amazon
The author of Good Authority has a common sense paradigm for nurturing these ... "There ought to be an app for that!" But there is not. As an HR professional, I am bombarded by well-meaning account reps offering a variety of slick (and expensive!) apps that purport to improve culture, communication and performance. However, I can tell you that these apps are not going to pack any punch unless the managers and employees have strong relationships. The author of Good Authority has a common sense paradigm for nurturing these relationships. This paradigm- the Accountability Dial- is a step by step method that managers can immediately apply to structure productive conversations about performance. The author draws on a wealth of experience in dealing with many of the behaviors we face in coaching our employees to meet work expectations. These employee behaviors have an impact on the success of the team as a whole. Whether it is regarding the employee who is in a constant state of overwhelm or the employee who does not communicate in a productive way with teammates - the conversations outlined in the book serve as a roadmap for managers who want to build strong relationships with their employees. I immediately turned this book around and created a training program for our managers which is yielding great results. For me, it was a quick read but I am finding it to be a valuable resource to which I refer again and again. Highly recommend. Go to Amazon
This book is a must read for any manager who wants to make a difference. Five Stars Fast read with relevant takeaways on coaching It's time for less Superman, more Yoda Every manager (new and seasoned) should read this book Good Authority provides straight-forward techniques that team members respond to ... Great book! Five Stars Good read Clear, powerful and applicable learnings for leaders of all sorts!

Required reading for every professional salesperson To say that Jeffrey Gitomer is prolific would be an understatement...he's worked his way into the upper echelon of sales gurus like Brian Tracy and the late, legendary Zig Ziglar. I've read the majority of his books and will say that this is the "If you're only going to buy one Jeffrey Gitomer book" book. While "The Sales Bible" may be seen by some as his "Greatest Hit," this is the book that pretty much lays out the foundation of his sales philosophy that you will find in every book that followed. If I were a sales manager, I'd make it required reading for every one of my salespeople. So what's in it, and why is it so good? First, he makes it clear that it's all about you and your attitude. You believe in yourself, your products, and your services, and you are driven to win...or you're not. If you're a "believer," then you can be of service to your customers. You have to know what is important to them, and then you make it all ABOUT them. You never cut your price to close a sale because you leave money on the table, and you diminish the value of what you have to offer in the eyes of your customer. There are books whose primary aim is to make you feel good about yourself in a warm and fuzzy way. This isn't one of them. Gitomer wants you to feel good about yourself by being honest, by being tough, by waking up and smelling the coffee and PERFORMING. If you read this book and USE it...put what's between the covers into practice...you WILL make sales. It's unavoidable. This is how it's done. Go to Amazon
Little Red Book on Selling; Sales is essential for every job function This good book on sales tips included the following chapters and key points that I found relevant/useful. It is my intent that the discussions of the chapters kindle your interest and spur you on to buy the book. Go to Amazon
Highly recommended for an individual or team in the sales profession This book addresses sales with a lively combination of humor and professionalism to help salespeople get their feet in many more doors. For those who are running into dead ends, stale leads, price objections, and unreturned phone calls, Gitomer has created The Little Red Book of Selling to show them how to get past the usual obstacles and sell their products and services with new zest and vigor. Go to Amazon
A little red giant Mr Gitomer changed my view of the sales process forever. I am taking my first steps in sales prospecting for the company I work with, I just studied the book,... not read it,... studied, implemented its insights, and... alleluya..., they seem to work out. In addition, Mr Gitomer has a great sense of humor, and that helps to transmit his ideas easier Go to Amazon
The Basic Skills a Sales Professional must have... This book is not only about motivation, but basic skills that a sales professional must pursue. Go to Amazon
Overall good information Gold As Expected Five Stars Little Red Book of Selling Such a good book I'm reading it again! Amazing Love, love love Gitomer Still relevant and on point. Author's attitude and ego takes a lot of getting past. Five Stars
