While it sucked seeing a decently popular creator plagiarise my work and go on to gain significantly more money and notoriety than me at least it means no one thinks the SU Critical trend was my fault, honestly probably the wackiest way a person could ever be bailed out of a situation. Who could possibly give a shit about my misinformed and underdeveloped opinions about everything except fight scenes when we have an absolute legend here saying LAPIS was the abuser and calling Rebecca Sugar a pervert for... *checks notes* having a nonbinary character. A full two hours of the most batshit opinions you've ever heard sandwiched between stolen blocks of text and veiled shipping discourse. Just completely overwrote whatever impact I would have had. I made out like a bandit. Absolutely no way the SU Critical shitshow can be blamed on me now. God works in mysterious ways

if i can offer an alternative take, i like to think that he did snap into being a good dad - or, rather, started trying a lot fucking harder to be a better one. not out of nowhere, but after yang and ruby were almost killed by grimm as a direct result of his absence. i truly don't think he was absent for a huge deal of time, mostly because yang and ruby are far too fond of him for that and because ruby describes him in volume 2 as being overprotective. i think that something like that, realizing his only living family almost died because of him, really did snap him into trying harder to be there for them, even if he struggled with it (especially considering he still would have to have balanced it with his job as a teacher in order to, y'know, provide for them). i think he was far from a perfect father, not even a great one, but i think seeing him as at least a good one is supported by canon and is potentially just as interesting as him being a bad one if you come at it from the direction that this big event slapped him in the face with a dose of reality and a grimm-shaped wake-up call.
i will say though that i could be entirely biased because i see any father who clearly does love his kids as a good parent because my own father really was a terrible parent who left me when i was 11 so maybe the bar for me is. a tad low.

i like tai a lot, at least the version of him i’ve mostly invented that’s vaguely implied by canon, but he’s a terrible father. i think people trying to find a way to make him a good dad “other than the neglect” are doing the least interesting thing with his character. what i mean by that is i think a lot of people go for a reading where he was shitty and absent for an unspecified length of time after summer leaves and then eventually just snaps back into being a normal good dad and i just think that’s a) not supported by canon given the insane mess of his interactions with yang in v4 and b) Boring. let him suck!! let him be weird and emotionally stunted and a terrible father who really does love his kids and want the best for them and is absolute dogshit at Doing the best for them. that’s so much more fun

I think we're starting to dilute the meaning of "terminally online". Like, no, it's not terminally online to have eccentric opinions about a popular TV show – people like that existed before "online" was a thing. Unless we're talking at least an "it's homophobic for gay furries to have rat fursonas because they're depicting gay people as vermin", the onlineness falls well short of terminal.

Getting really sick of all the "There's No Place Like Chrome" ads on youtube. There's Firefox. Firefox saves your passwords. Firefox autofills things if you want. Firefox also does things that Chrome doesn't like allow adblockers, and it does not mine your data and sell your information for advertising purposes. Google is really trying to push people to use Chrome so they can take as much data from users as possible in order to make as much money as possible and it's borderline sinister.
