âI tend to not listen to what âtheyâ have to sayâ Em commented with a chuckle. âWho are they anyway? And why do they get to choose everything thatâs cool?â She let out a breath before she continued. âI think..mysterious people are fun sometimes, but in this day and age? The easiest way to trust someone is to know them more and more. So I much prefer this set upâ she said, nodding with a smile. Her eyebrows raised at the mention of their previous deal. âIâm sure those can still be arranged, especially if you keep complimenting my stellar looks, though isnât this more fun? Way less work on my part and so much more free!â she said with a twirl. She giggled, covering her mouth with her free hand. âListen, dude, Iâm from a smaller town than Town, okay? All I had to go off of were movies! You canât blame me.â She smiled, looking Maggieâs clothes up and down. âSee, I donât get the homeless vibe when I look at you. Itâs moreâŚcomfy casual, and you totally rock it.â
âBecause âtheyâ know a whole lot. And âtheyâ also tend to be right a lot of times. And mystery is normally really appealing. Just from personal experience.â she shook her head slightly. âWell maybe I just wanna get you alone.â she teased. âBut really. You look great. If itâs dancing thatâs keeping you like that I want in.â she giggled a bit, taking a swig of her drink. âOkay I get that. And it is true, all high school artsy types normally do go through a goth or scene slash emo thing. But now weâre all hipster hobos. And you donât get that vibe because every time you see me Iâm in a super sexy cute outfit that is slightly uncomfortable.âÂ

âThank you⌠I appreciate thatâ she nodded, offering Maggie a small smile. âIâd much rather hang out with you than my family anywayâ she offered, slipping back into her usual complimentary self for just a moment. âI donât know if Iâm feeling all that talkative today but if you have any stories to tell me, Iâll gladly listen.â Following Maggie inside the store, Lucy sat down on the stool that was pulled up for her, glancing around the room before her eyes eventually found the book. Opening it, she flicked through the pages. âI never really thanked you for suggesting it to me in the first place, actually. Colouring I mean. You were right, it is very relaxing.â
âI mean it. Iâm here whenever you need.â she smiled back. âAnd donât worry about it. I can ramble on if you want. I have weird stories. But I get if you donât want to hear them.â she said, leaving for a moment to set up some of the things on a note her boss left for her. âOh donât worry about it. Iâve definitely gone through a bunch of stress recently and it just... calmed me down. Which was good, because even though I do art, itâs the lack of thought. Just pick a color and fill the space. Itâs simple.â she shrugged a bit.

Em nodded, her mouth pressed shut in a smile. âYouâre super easy to read, but itâs fun! It makes things way easier.â She couldnât help but laugh, doing a little twirl at Maggieâs words. âThatâs a bad thing? Why didnât we think of this solution in the first place? Iâm out dancing all the time! A much better solution than you having to sit through 7 year olds âjumping over conesâ.â She shrugged with a laugh, putting her hands up in defense. âYouâre the first real artsy girl Iâve met, Maggie, you canât blame me for thinking all those stereotypes I saw in 90s movies are true. Though I should have known when you didnât show up in crazy dark lipstick and quoting Shakespeare. No judgement if you had one of those phases though.â
Maggie shook her head a bit. âPlease tell me that easy reading and fun is good. You know they say that mystery is good and I clearly donât have any of that.â she tilted her head a giggled. âBecause I wanted private dance lessons. Though this is a lot of fun and youâre really hot so Iâm down for doing this more.â she pointed out doing a little dance of her own. âWait really? Weâre not all goth chicks.â she teased a bit. âThough most of us have a phase. I did have one, but I go for the more homeless vibe now. It also doesnât help that my clothes have tons of holes and are covered in paint... for the most part.â she joked.

âYour lack of faith in me is frankly offensiveâ he pouted, though he knew the idea of her trusting him to do that when theyâd only just met was pretty ridiculous. Raising an eyebrow, he was quickly smirking at her. âIs this just your way of trying to get me into your apartment? You donât even know my nameâ he pointed out, gasping with false shock. âWhatever, put me in whatever you want. Youâll be the one feeling foolish when I still look like a greek god.â Childishly, he stuck his tongue out at her. âI actually own a bowling shirt. Just on the off chance that I might want to go bowling and look the part.â Freddy smiled happily at the compliment, he never really grew tired of hearing them. âI canât help it, Iâm feeling strangely competitive with this guy whoâs supposedly more interesting than me. Of course. Whatâs the point in talking to people if youâre not trying to impress them?â he suggested, turning away from her for a second to get the attention of the bartender. âWhat are you drinking, Maggie?â
She looked him up and down. âOnly if you let me dye your beard.â she said, a grin slowly creeping across her lips, that she tried to hide by biting her lip. âOh. No way. This is me trying to capitalize on your childhood memories to sell you and your fancy self some art.â she teased. âIf I was trying to do that, dear sir, Iâd be classy and try to go back to your place.â she teased. âThough what is your name?â A giggle slipped past her lips when she saw him stick out his tongue, sticking hers out right back at him. âIâm gonna dress you up like Aladdin. And then Iâm going to take you bowling in your bowling shirt. I want to see how much of an old man you look like. Though since youâre so competitive that might not be a good idea. If youâre competing with an person youâve never even met, it makes me wonder how much worse itâll be when you actually do know them.â she shook her head. âThereâs a lot of reasons to talk to people other than impressing them. It just depends on your intentions. And Iâll have a double of Jamison on the rocks.â

âI know you are, sorry. I didnât mean anything by it, just⌠feeling exceptionally lonely today I guess. Family stuff is weird for me. Just ignore me, pleaseâ she insisted, waving her hand quickly. âOkay. Well if youâre sure then I think that would be nice. I could use a good distractionâ she decided, nodding slowly. Thinking over the decision for a little longer than necessary, she eventually smiled. âForest animals.. unless you wanted that one. Iâll have your least favourite, that seems the most fair way.â
âWell... You have me you can hang out with me as long as you want. And I know family is a mess. Even good families have their problems.â she said shaking her head a little. âTotally. And itâll give me someone to talk to which is always nice.â she said walking up to the door of the store and walking in. She moved to put on her name tag and pulled up a second stool behind the counter, pulling the forest animal book and the garden book out of her back as well as a huge set of colored pencils for them to share. âOh donât worry about it. I kinda like the idea of other people coloring it. It makes it more for fun than just for me.â she shrugged.

âI have always been better with other peopleâs words rather than my own,â he agreed, seeming to take to the idea at least a little more. âThere are already enough tears in high school that they donât need the teachers adding to them. Believe me. Oh, I donât doubt that. I cry a lot. Just generally not in front of people.â Laughing, he nodded his head. âThatâs probably a good strategy. Sadly it doesnât work quite as well for me. I end up doing the drink buying rather than the other way around. Home booze is almost always the way to go.â
âYeah. And youâre kinda over dramatic and a very romantic. Seriously youâd be good at it.â She burst into laughter. âOh my god that is so true holy shit. So many tears in high school. Why would you put yourself back in that environment? One day Iâm gonna walk in on you crying and despite coming to you to make you feel better Iâm gonna also feel better about crying in public in front of you.â she shook her head a little. âWell then. Do you wanna keep dancing or do you wanna get home booze? This outfit makes me look hot but itâs really uncomfortable.â

âYou should let me do it, Iâm positive Iâd be a great hairdresser. What could possibly go wrong?â Considering heâd never even styled anyoneâs hair let alone dyed it, a lot. âDo you sell your work? Is that how you make a living?â he asked, intrigued to know more. âThat is so rude. Itâs not my opinion that everything looks good on me, itâs just a fact. Even if certain colours make my eyes pop more than othersâ he said, dramatically fluttering his eyes at her. âI make even the worst of fashions look great.â The idea that he looked good in everything was something his stylist used to reiterate to him⌠then again, he was paying her a ridiculously high fee and clearly just telling him what he wanted to hear. âWhat? This other guy a great dancer is he? I can assure you Iâm betterâŚ. what is your name, actually?â
Maggie let out a scoff. âAs much as letting a total stranger who has just made it clear he is actually not a hair dresser dye my hair is something Iâd probably do, since itâs stupid and crazy and that is what Iâm known for in my decision making process, I kinda want to keep my hair on my head.â she teased a little. âI do. If you want you can always come over and check some of it out.â she nodded. There was never a bad time to promote her art, and who knows maybe if he thinks sheâs cute enough heâll be a patron. The next thought to cross her head was if she slept with a patron would it be prostitution, but she shook that one away quick enough. âOh. Thatâs so a challenge. I am gonna take you shopping and put you in parachute pants, a bowling shirt and pointy alligator shoes.â she teased a bit. âYou may be cute, but that doesnât mean you can pull of clothing that needs to be burned.â Maggie tilted her head a little. âYou make so many statements that make you have to prove yourself. Are you just trying to impress me?â she laughed a little, leaning into him. âIâm Maggie.â

She smiled, taking a sip of her drink. âI may have sucked at school, but Iâm a quick study.â she said, dancing a bit as a new song came on. If she were being honest, it was kind of relieving to see a familiar face at the bar with her. She hummed in approval, taking another sip. âDidnât know artsy chicks liked to go out dancingâ she commented, a joking tone to her voice. âHave you ever been here before? The musicâs amazing!â
Maggie laughed a little. âAm I really that easy to read? I mean it might just be that youâre hot and cute and dancing around. This is why I shouldnât come to your dance show. Iâll just wanna dance with you.â she teased. She took a sip of her own drink before shaking her head. âYou act like weâre hermits. Artsy chicks need to let loose too. Iâve been here a couple times when I just wanna dance and go crazy.â

âActing? Iâm not sure thatâs for me, then again I havenât tried ever so maybe Iâll give it a shot one time.â He shrugged, considering it but not sure heâd actually take up the idea. âThey tend to frown on sobbing Iâm sorry to say. Itâs why I keep mine to when Iâm at home.â He chuckled. âIâll do my best, but you might have to be the one to cut me off. Iâll do my best to hold back. Cheaper drinks are probably a good idea though, my wallet isnât happy with how much time I spend in bars.â
âItâs reciting with feeling. You can have a one man show.â sh teased him. âWell I do that sober so thereâs just one more reason I should never teach. Some day you will sob in front of me and I will feel like less of a crazy emotional mess.â Maggie giggled. âI will cut you off. I am totally broke so I normally depend on guys thinking Iâm hot and pity drinks when Iâm alone. So this is a rare occasion. Home booze is so much cheaper.â

âAt least they tryâ Lucy mumbled, unintentionally sounding incredibly bitter. âI mean, itâs nice that they try and consider your interests when buying gifts for you. And at least youâll never run outâ she nodded, offering Maggie a faint smile. âNo one comes in? Do you not get bored sitting there on your own all day?â she asked, looking a little saddened by the thought - it didnât really occur to Lucy that not everyone craved constant interaction. âAnimals, definitely.â
âI know.â she sighed a little. âI didnât mean it like that. Iâm totally grateful and stuff, I just.... itâs a lot of art supplies.â she laughed, shaking her head, feeling a little guilty that she sounded so ungrateful. âOh I mean people sometimes do. Mainly the art students from the college that I know, and people who think itâs like a Michaels. Not really a concern of mine. And youâre not gonna distract me really. Weâre just coloring.â she shrugged a bit. âOkay. Birds, cats, dogs, or just general forest animals.â

âLilac? Bold choice, I like itâ he nodded, he didnât know much about hair but he was happy to compliment her choices anyway. âOh, cool! My mom used to paint, actually, whenever she had a bit of free time. Oh, you are? Does that mean youâre going to come on shopping trips with me and tell me what looks good and what doesnât? âCause, spoiler alert, I look great in everythingâ he assured her with a laugh. âIâm donât usually make promises⌠mostly because I know how terrible I am at keeping them but I guess I can make an exception just this once. After youâ he said, using a hand to point out a path through the small crowd of people towards the bar.Â
âYeah. Itâs a choice. Iâve yet to try it. Who knows.â she shrugged a bit.  âOh really? Smart. Not doing it professionally. Thatâs where my problem lies.â she laughed a bit. âOh. Trust me. As much as you think that I doubt everything looks good. Some things need to just be burned.â she laughed. âAnd somethings you need to just style correctly. Clearly you donât know your colors well enough to know what works with your skin tone best.â she teased. Maggie started to walk towards the bar, glad to have someone buying her her next drink. âItâs the easiest promise to keep. And if you donât want to dance, youâre already going back on being more interesting than the person I thought you were in the first place.â

âBecause Iâm lousy at it. Trust me. Itâs possible that I⌠borrowed some of that from my pal Will Shakespeare. Donât give me too much credit,â he said with a self-depreciating laugh, quickly shaking his head. âI would say so, though it probably depends on what kind of drunk your teacher is. Iâm not sure anyone wants to listen to their teacher crying and complaining about their relationship problems for an hour. School is just lame in general⌠some alcohol would do wonders for everyone involved I think,â he joked, chuckling. âIâve always been an all or nothing kind of guy. Might not always be for the best. Please do. Iâd love that.â
âWhy donât you try acting?â she said with a smile. âI mean youâre already pretty convincing with it. Maybe you could act in some community Shakespeare theater. Then you get to borrow his words but use your own spin on it.â Maggie shook her head at  his comment. âThat would be me if I was a teacher. In all honesty Iâd be a sobbing mess all the time.â she laughed. âWell youâre gonna be a part of the way guy when it comes to drinking with me. Maybe you get a half of a bottle of wine. Or two thirds. Depends on how much we drink here. But it is always cheaper to do it at home.â she said with a smile. âOkay. Itâs planned.â

âDid I say I was trying? I think when itâs right the person will find you, not the other way around. I think love finds us, we donât find love.â He shook his head though chuckling. âIâm sure sheâll be fine. The path of true love never did run smooth after all. You have to wade through a lot of people before Mr. or Ms Right appear.â Seth chuckled. âA drunk teacher is one who starts up long and off-topic conversations with the students. And for once has a very good time teaching.â Seth shrugged with another laugh. âThatâs true, but I also donât want to get too close to that. But I wouldnât say no to sharing. Alright then, we should. Iâm free any time for either.â
âSo you gave up poetry why? Just write down all the things you say, itâs pretty much the same.â she said before making a face to mock him. âLove finds us. The path of true love never did run smooth.â she teased. âSo pretty much itâs better to have a drunk teacher than a regular teacher. That explains why school was so lame. None of the teachers were drunk.â she giggled a bit. âYeah. I would hope you have some type of understanding of when to stop.â she pointed out. âIâll give you a call then. Weâll go dancing.â he said with a small grin.

âReally? Thatâs a lot of colouring booksâ she nodded, managing a small smile. âYou could open your own store with that many.â Starting to walk forward as Maggie went on, Lucy turned to her with a worried expression. âAre you sure youâre not going to get in trouble having me there with you while youâre supposed to be working?âÂ
âYeah. My family still doesnât understand that liking to paint doesnât mean my only interest is in art supplies.â she laughed a little. âOh no. My boss doesnât care. And no one actually comes in, so as long as I actually talk to the person who comes inside Iâm good.â she shrugged a little. âSo. Whatâcha thinking? Animals, flowers, or ocean? I got it all.â she said with a smile.

âThank you, I appreciate your honesty. Your hair is cute too, for the recordâ he added with a smile though he was quickly laughing as she went on. âThose are some very specific colour choices. You some kind of fashion expert? I promise Iâll take your advice and look out for those colours next time I go shirt shopping. - Let me repay you with a drink instead. I havenât had nearly enough yet to join you on the dance floor.â
âThank you. Iâm thinking of dying the ends lilac.â she giggled a bit. âIâm a painter. But I know from experience your skin tone looks really good with those tones.â she tilted he head a bit. âIf you ever need a personal stylist I am totally your girl.â Maggie pouted a little. âIâll only except a drink if you promise youâll dance with me after.â

âItâs not your fault, Iâm just a little jumpy today in generalâ she explained quietly, looking up at Maggie with a gentle smile as she went on. âIâll buy you a new book to make up for the pages I useâ she offered, though there was a flash of worry in her eyes as she realised she might not have any money for a while. âWhat? No! No. I canât⌠I donât need to get anything. Itâs fine. Thank you but⌠Iâm fine.â
âOh okay. Well we should totally get some calming going on.â she grinned. âHey. Donât worry about it. I have like... fifty different books. Itâs all I got for Christmas this year. Iâm never going to finish them all.â she laughed a bit. With the reaction to her words she held out her hand. âOkay. Alright. Thatâs fine. Letâs go color for a bit.â she said smiling.Â

âSometimes. I donât know if itâs every time but at least it beats going out with the actual teachers so I donât mind. If she is trying thatâs a bit sad for her. Iâm not sure how I feel about dating in general right now. Iâm sure it will be fine. Sheâs usually found a new guy before too long,â he said with a laugh. âNo, no thatâs hungover teaching. Whole different kettle of fish that,â he joked, shaking his head. âPreparation was never my strong suit. Iâm more of a work with what Iâve got guy. Iâd buy ten bottles and before I knew it theyâd all be gone anyway. Itâs better for my wallet this way.â He laughed. âYes? Why not? Maybe not tonight, depends how drunk I get and how my coordination is but otherwise I donât see why not. Neither of those sound like bad options though.â
âOkay Mr. Romantic. What happened to trying to find the one? Well I hope she finds a good guy. Itâs terrible to be stuck in that cycle.â she said shaking her head a bit. âOhhh. I see. So what is a drunk teacher?â she laughed. âWell I am always prepared, and there is only so much wine you can drink before you die, so thatâs normally an end to it all, and there is always leftover if you store enough and reIâm totally willing to share.â she laughed. âWell I look forward to it. Both sound really so we should do it.â
