Blaze had fallen. Shadow hadn't expected that. He didn't quite remember if he had ever come to blows with her in the past (maybe he should ask that Flynn guy), but Shadow knew she was no pushover. He couldn't help but feel a distant twinge of interest at the prospect of going head-to-head with her in the next round.
And yet, that wasn't what happened. Instead, he was staring down some kid who constantly looked like he was about to fall asleep instead of a warrior princess worthy of his respect.
For some reason Shadow wanted to blame the girl with the red hat and boy with the purple hat. Especially now, being brought face-to-face with his opponent, where Shadow could see just how truly uninvested in this competition Sig was. Had he not seen the kid walk in here under his own power, Shadow would not have been surprised if told Sig was quite literally sleeping through the competition. He looked just that tired, just that uninterested.
…Or could it be the opposite? Perhaps Sig so confident in his reputation carrying him through, that he did not consider any of the competition a threat? One way or another, Shadow was bound to find out by the nature of whatever trash talk Sig would throw at him.
…
…They stood in silence for several minutes, not even moving.
…Guess Shadow of all people was going to have to break the ice. "You must be thankful this will not be decided by power, aren't you?"
"huh" Sig finally made a sound.
Shadow gave a subtly cocky smirk. "I'm the Ultimate Lifeform. Born to bring immortality to the people of my world. I cannot be broken. I cannot be torn. And I cannot be stoped."
"oh"
"What are you, compared to me? A disfigured child with no sense of awareness or combat experience. You would be obliterated."
"mm"
…
…Shadow dropped the grin. "You have nothing to say to that?"
"nah"
"Hmph." Shadow folded his arms tightly. "You remain fearless, even in the face of absolute defeat. I respect that much of you."
" should i" Sig asked.
"Should you what?"
"be scared t'lose"
Shadow looked the boy up and down again. "Why shouldn't you be? You stand against someone who was once the most popular representative of one of the largest game franchises ever made." There was really no way to answer the question without breaking the fourth wall.
"tied for third now"
"Hmph," Shadow scowled. Sig may put up a passive face, but it only made his arrogance all the more apparent. "We'll see about that."
(Meanwhile, in Sig's brain, he was started to wonder if maybe this is just how people like Shadow had their fun? He wouldn't know.)
