we still get immediately shoved out of our immersion in tv shows or films when The Girl find a dead body and immediately shrieks - we just don't find it realistic because we're pretty confident most people would gasp rather than shriek (i.e. sharp inhale rather than sharp exhale) and it also feels unnecessarily (and predictably) misogynistic too, as men encountering corpses almost never do the same on screen
also of course please do tell us if you've actually encountered a corpse unexpectedly, because tumblr is absolutely a place where some people have done this thing and we love a good anecdote
suddenly imagining "burst into song" as a potential response

so now that the dead boy detectives show is out, and a lot of fans of netflix sandman are watching it, i thought i'd share a little fun fact with y'all:
the dead boys nearly killed hob gadling in their first ever solo series! they were tricked into it by an evil semi-immortal being who feeds on the youth of children who was trying to steel hob's immortality.
don't worry though, they made it up to him later :)

The Stunning Astronomical Beadwork of Native Artist Margaret Nazon
Margaret Nazon has spent the past decade building intricate beadwork depictions of outer space. The colorful artworks balance representational and stylized aesthetics set on black fabric backgrounds to depict galaxies, planets, nebulae, and other astronomical phenomena.
Initially inspired by Hubble space telescope images, Nazon’s celestial renderings are part of a lifelong interest in beading. In an interview with Glenbow, the artist shared that she began beading at age 10, but found the density of traditional beadwork to be tedious.
The abstract nature of celestial images allows Nazon to be more interpretive and incorporate different materials like caribou bones and willow seeds that have location-specific or cultural significance. Nazon is Tsiigehtchic, part of the Gwich’in community in what is now the Northwest Territories of Canada. The artist explained that because she is retired, she is able to dedicate significant time to beading, and often rises at 4:30am to begin working. Nazon plans to continue experimenting, including merging her abstract beadwork with her seamstress skills to create artfully embellished apparel.
Nazon’s artwork was most recently exhibited at Glenbow in a group show, Cosmos, and A Beaded Universe at Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. You can read more about her in the Glenbow interview, and explore Nazon’s portfolio on her website.

Don’t send actors fics
Don’t give them explicit art ever
Don’t tag them in rpf questions or theories
Don’t try to bring them into fandom drama of any kind
Don’t hold them responsible for what the producers and writers decide
They’re still people. They have private lives, which do not include fandom.
#my small oeuvre on ao3 is almost exclusively rpf#I ran a daily fan blog for one of the people I wrote about#a glossy magazine reached out to me as an “expert” on this person#that very public facing blog? that was read by its subject?#never one time mentioned fic or speculated on ships#that was kept off the blog well before I knew it was being read#go on and put that real person in situations#but do it responsibly

I never understood the fruit code; these terms were only from a particular subset of fans (ff.n and/or manga/anime I believe) and not universal. I've been in fandom since the mid-90s, western media fandoms only, the Usenet to mailing lists to LJ pipeline. These were terms I never came across in fic, only in passing from people Not In My Fandoms.
Reblog for larger sample size. Feel free to indicate in the comments your generation, approximate region of residence, your length of experience with fan fiction, or when/where you first encountered these terms.
#fandom has never been a monoculture#and there was definitely a split between western and asian fandoms#they started to cross pollinate on lj#when fandom was no longer siloed into single subject groups/lists
