The boy mumbles
"Kalihan"
“Kalihan you say?”
Mahrlax rubs his long scruffy beard in thought.
“Kalihan you will be my apprentice, I will teach you the proper way to be a man”
Mahrlax puts his hand on Kalihan’s shoulder and looks him in the eyes
“I do not expect you to pass as you seem very; dare I say fragil.”
Kalihan looks down as his self esteem plunders. Mahrlax pats Kalihan on the back.
“Now then take my bags to my quarters and put them away, be careful with my bottles please or there will be punishment.”
Kalihan tries to pick up the bags but they are too heavy for his twig-like arms he takes a giant breath and drags them across the boat Mahrlax chuckles as it reminds him when he was a lass.
“Mahrlax!”
The old captain walks up to him chuckling
“Mahrlax How are you my son!”
The captain and I were very close; he raised me to be the man I am today.
“I cannot believe you are still sailing old geezer, they said you'd retire a long time ago.”
Mahrlax hugs the captain tightly patting his back
“Now, now my formal name around the crew or they will not take me seriously!”
as the captain and Mahrlax conversate Kalihan was putting away Mahrlax belongings he could not help but nose through them he looks at the bottles and giant clothes he notices at the bottom of one of his bags laid a leather book with a leather strap and a giant lock he starts to nose around for a key. Mahrlax quietly walks up behind him and clears his throat.
“What do you think you're doing boy?”
Kalihan drops the book as he falls backwards on the floor scared as his face turns red as a hot pepper
“S-sir Mahrlax I did not expect you to come to your chamber so soon!”
Kalihan says with a stutter. Mahrlax Huffed as he picked up the book and wiped the book with care
“Well, are you going to answer boy?”
Mahrlax said as he put the book in a locked chest.
“ I-I was curious, I am sorry It will not happen”
Kalihan bowed as he wiped his knees. Marhlax slumped on the end of his bed patting next to him. Kalihan cautiously approached and sat next to him
“Let me tell you something Kalihan. I am the first born and my family was not very fond of me, my younger brother was always the favorite child. There was an old man who took me under his wing and taught me the power of magic. He raised me fairly well and made sure I was the strongest warlock there was in New talen mostly because us men were not praised for practicing a woman's craft; my point is boy is that-”
Mahrlax puts his hand on Kalihans shoulder
“I will teach you the ways if you want me too I shall make sure you are raised well and grow to be a strong man.”
Kalihan looks down as he starts to cry. He turns away and wipes the tears with his dirty sleeves. Mahrlax rolls his eyes and gives Kalihan a warm hug.
“What's the matter boy?”
Kalihan looks up at Mahrlax as he sniffles his nose
“M-my f-father abandoned me and my mother when I was a babe. She worked as a waitress at the pub but after I turned ten she had to work more for food and my school. After that she got caught up with the Kraylin boys; they offered her eight pounds of gold and she would have to return it back when they called for her. We were living our best. We were able to live in a townhouse and she was able to afford the town bakery we lived grand until I turned fifteen.”
Kalihan starts to cry again as Mahrlax hugs him tighter.
“Go on boy.”
Kalihan wipes his nose once more
“ They decided to take her from the bakery while I was in the back kneading the dough. I heard her screaming but I could not do anything. I-I was weak.”
Kalihan tears up again
“She came back home with bruises and her lip was bleeding. She was crying. She was in so much pain and I couldn't do anything.”
Mahralx gets up and huffs
“boy by the time we get back you will be stronger than ever.”
Mahralx lifted Kalihan up and walked him to his chambers. He pats him on the back and opens the door.
“We shall start training tomorrow, boy, make sure you get your rest.”
Kalihan shyly walks into his chamber.
“Goodnight sir.”
He slowly closes the tall heavy door as it creaks shut. Mahralx puts his hands over his face as he fills with frustration and anger. He thinks to himself why men like the Kraylin boys even exist. He swipes his hands down his face as he grunts just when Mahralx thought he had a break one of the crew members walks up to him with a worried face.
“Sir, the captain needs to see you!”
Mahralx takes a deep breath and briskly walks to the captain's quarter. Mahralx swings the door open.
“You called for me?”
The captain's chair slowly turns to only find the captain squirming with cloth in his mouth and his hands with a purple hue from loss of circulation from the scratchy rope. The door slams behind Mahralx. Mahralx Pulls out his sword and stands in a defensive stance as he turns out his eyes widen in shock.
“You.”

Where the raven Lie CHAPTER ONE PART ONE
The bell rang out signaling for all the students to quiet down and focus on what the teacher was saying.
"Ok students." The teacher clapped, getting everyone's attention,"Today we will be learning about how New Talen was once, so they say, full of witches and taking animals" The teacher acted as though she didn't believe the fact one bit. Jax sat in the back of his 11th grade high school history class and paid attention for once as the teacher was bringing up something that intrigued him deeply. The teacher started talking whilst Jax sat back to daydream about what she was saying.
It was once stated that if a raven accompanied you on a journey you would make it to your destination
Mahrlax Fharon, a famous sorcerer from New Talen, was experimenting on a new potion when the local post boy came knocking on his door. Sitting down the potion Mahrlax grumbled about being interrupted and walked over to the door while taking his shirt off. Pulling the door open with more force than necessary he faced the post boy with a clearly upset face.grumbled Mahrlax, tapping the fingers of his left hand which gripped the door keeping it in place.
"T-this came for y-you Sir F-f-fharon."
The boy stuttered out, holding the letter out that was to be delivered to Mahrlax. Taking the paper Mahrlax grunted in acknowledgement and closed the door roughly, the post boy now forgotten after seeing his family's seal on the letter. Mahrlax sat down in his worn out chair that's been in his family for generations. Grabbing a pocket knife from the coffee table in front of him, he started peeling the wax seal off carefully so as not to tear the precious paper underneath.
The letter was obviously from someone in his family, Mahrlax had already come to that conclusion, but he doesn't know from whom inside his family. As Mahrlax read the letter he realized his mother wrote to him. The letter read,
Dear Mahrlax,
I'm going to keep this short and simple. It seems that your brother has gone missing and the butler says that he was mumbling about wanting to explore lone haven. Please find him soon.
Dearest regards, your mother
Mahrlax sighed in annoyance, his brother always was one to get himself into some type of trouble. Since he has to travel to Lone Haven he has to make sure there's no potions on the boat or there will be a possibility of harming the animals. We have gotten rid of most of the talking animals from New Talen."I suppose I can take the boat although I'd rather not."
Mahrlax mumbled to himself. Since it's only nine in the morning I suppose I can pack my things and ready the boat in the morning, Mahrlax thought to himself while folding the letter and putting it away. Getting up to go pack Mahrlax remembered his potion he left on the table earlier when the post boy came, picking it up he rolled his eyes seeing that it had evaporated while he was busy elsewhere. Putting the bottle down Mahrlax huffed and turned to go pack for tomorrow's day. Yanking his bags out from under his bed Mahrlax proceeds to throw his clothes into the first bag. Grabbing the second bag he walks back into the kitchen and grabs empty potion bottles and glass jars, wrapping each one separately with a soft cloth before packing them into his bag. I may need these if I find anything interesting in lone haven whilst I'm there. Mahrlax thought to himself while wrapping a large bottle, one he would normally use to put a rabbit's head in for display.
After Mahrlax had finished wrapping up all his jars and putting them in the bag, he took the bag and sat it by his bedroom door doing the same with the bag holding his clothes. Looking outside he saw that it had become dark while debating while jars to pack. Sighing Mahrlax looked to his bed while he tried to decide if he wanted to heat water up for a bath, deciding against the idea Mahrlax climbed into his bed instantly falling asleep.
Mahrlax groaned in annoyance as he rolled away from the sunlight, opening his eyes once he did. All of his bags were packed and ready by his bedroom door awaiting to be hauled off to the boat. Stretching his arms above his head Mahrlax arched his back off the bed and popped it. Sitting up Mahrlax contemplated whether or not he wanted to go get his brother.I never did enjoy his presence, he's such a hassle. Why does he always get himself in trouble, and why does mother always come to his aid rather than mine. I went missing in my childhood for over a week and not one soul cared to look. The only reason they realized I was gone is because one of the maids noticed my plate was always empty and when she checked on me in my room I wasn't there, even then mother never sent a search party. Finally after ten days I stumbled onto the steps of the mansion after running away from my captures. Mahrlax shook his head at the memory, his face screwing up in disgust after realizing he just compared his abominable self to his prodigious brother. Getting up from his bed at last Mahrlax went to the toilet and did his business so he can get a move on, he's got quite a busy day today after all.
After finishing everything he needs to do at the house, Mahrlax grabbed his bags and put them in the horse buggy, making sure to put the bag with the jars in it down softly. With one last look at his house Mahrlax left guiding the horses in the correct direction of the port. Passing many trees and some cows here and there.
Mahrlax made a sound or relief when he finally saw the port in front of him. Pulling the horses to a halt when they made it to the loading area. Getting out the buggy Mahrlax grabbed the smallest horse, a cob that stands 147 cm tall, and guided it to the side so other riders and such could get by.
"Hello Sir Fharon, would you like for us to prepare your boat?"
a young boy asked, looking to be about 17 or 18.
Mahrlax was startled as he hadn't seen the boy before he spoke, nodding his head to the boy he watched as he ran off to get the boat ready. Although I would call it more of a ship as it's bigger than a boat but smaller than a ship, one man could steer it and take care of it with ease. Walking around to the back of the buggy Mahrlax grabbed his bag and started walking in the direction of his ship knowing the port hands would take care of his horse and buggy.
Nearly to his ship Mahrlax was stopped by a beautiful woman who he didn't know, accompanying her was a child about age 12. From the way the kid dressed he couldn't quite tell whether they were a boy or girl. Bringing Mahrlax out of his thoughts the woman gestures to her child and says,
"I know you don't know me but I know who you are and I was hoping you would take my son to wherever you may be going."
The woman takes a breath as Mahrlax looks at her funny and realizes this is going to take a lot of convincing on her part. Continuing the woman nudges her son towards Mahrlax,
"I know he looks young and useless but really he's 17, a hard worker and he doesn't eat much. Please, I'm in trouble with the Kraylin boys and I don't want him mixed up in this. Please."
The woman was practically begging on her knees at this point. The mention of the Kraylin boys did catch Mahrlax's attention though.
"Kraylin boys you say, how did you get caught up with them?"
The Kraylin boys are known all around New Talen for pimping women out to the demon and witches that stay hidden underground, the port guards haven't completely cleansed New Talen from the ghastly beings. The Kraylin boys never report since the demons and witches have made quite a large amountof coins and spend it on their nightly lay. For this woman to be mixed up with that bunch it just means she's been doing some unholy thing with those revolting beings.
The woman looks worried as she looks between Mahrlax and her son, obviously not wanting to say what she's been doing in front of her son. Mahrlax stops her before she can speak again since he's in quite the hurry.
"I'll let the boy come with me, I'm going to New Haven and don't plan to come back any time soon. Now if you want your boy to come with me then you need to hurry and say your good-byes so I can leave."
Mahrlax hurries out looking between the boy and the woman expecting them to hug or do something of the sort but she just pushes the kid towards him then turns and runs away quickly.
Sighing Mahrlax turns to the kid and asks,
"What's your name boy?"
Startled by the question, the boy just stares at Mahrlax. Rolling his eyes Mahrlax starts heading towards his ship not worrying if the boy is following him or not, Mahrlax doesn't care whether or not the boy follows. Loading onto the boat Mahrlax puts his bags down by the mast, getting ready to have the port boys untie the boat but when he turns around to do so he sees it's already been done. The boy came over to Mahrlax and looked as if he wanted to say something but he still stayed silent. Mahrlax rolled his eyes, already tired of the boy and said,
"Seriously boy, what's your name?"
