Wait what happened? A fan posted something that got mistranslated and bbh apologized? I didn't see any of it happen so I'm confused...
⇾Here⇽ is a twitter thread that can hopefully help you understand the situation, because my summary probably won’t cut it.
But basically an EXO-L posted a lovely fan account of a conversation she had with Baekhyun at a fansign. They talked about her depression and Baekhyun said he doesn’t understand what depression is like since he’s never personally experienced it, while expressing a lot of concern and comforting her as best he could. (⇾Here⇽ is a translation of a detailed account of their interaction which she posted after things started getting ugly.)
An Army (and clearly an EXO-anti) who does BTS-related translations got a snippet of the audio from that conversation from a known EXO-anti twitter account, and translated it as, “I don’t know why people get depression and insomnia”, trying to make it sound like he was saying “depression is fake and ppl who have it are crazy” and effectively taking it out of context and butchering the actual meaning of what he said. AND she linked it to Jonghyun’s very recent very tragic death as well. Which is… perhaps the most disgusting part of all this.
People quickly jumped on it and corrected her and she issued the… “apology”(???) you can find in the Twitter thread linked above. If you can call it that… the most unapologetic apology of all time. And it would’ve been great if it could’ve just ended there, but uh nope, actual articles were written about it as though it was fact and Baekhyun’s being dragged through the mud for literally zero reason whatsoever, if these “journalists” writing these “articles” did one iota of fact-checking said “articles” wouldn’t even exist.
So journalism is dead and we already knew this but the situation is fucked up and Baekhyun issued an apology on his Instagram even though it’s SO not needed, the fan gained so much strength from her conversation with him, what he DID say to her is textbook “how to comfort someone with depression” shit, like he did everything perfectly, he was honest and kind and understanding and disgusting horrible people are trying to bring him down as per usual.
Nothing’s changed in 2018.
But what can we DO about it??

Also leave plenty of nice comments on Baekhyun’s Instagram. There are a lot of nice posts floating around of great Korean phrases you can send him, even sending kind thoughts in your native language is great. Send him lots of love and hearts.

Everyone is born with a soul mark somewhere on their body. Their soulmate has the same mark. New technology has been developed that can remove the mark, but at great cost.
The voices resonating within the small living room blurred together into white noise and faded into the aether, leaving the abrupt thud of your heart stopping as the only audible sound. The walls felt like they were crumbling around you, and the velvet couch you sat on seemed like it was swallowing you into its depths, encasing you in a suffocating darkness. The pain you had suppressed for so long came flooding back, spreading through your every nerve. You felt like your chest had imploded and your bones were caving in. Your entire body had shut down momentarily as Sehun’s last few words echoed through the husk of your skull.
“I’m going to get my soul mark removed.”
There were muffled voices, a few louder than the others, but you couldn’t decipher what was being said. Your brain - consumed by grief - didn’t allow for it. Someone had placed their hand on your arm to try and shake you out of your stupor, but you could barely feel the contact through your numb skin.
But then, his voice called your name, penetrating through the void. That one familiar voice that for so long had brought you happiness and sweet memories, but now, it tore your very being apart. The words that voice had spoken had severed the few ties to him you had left. But still, his voice had so much power and influence over you, and it finally brought you out of your trance. You blinked a few times, and suddenly, you were returned to reality.
This wasn’t a dream.
