Hello, everyone! We hope you had an awesome holiday season and a great New Year! We want to thank you for being here and for your patience as we get ready for the fight in February. Right now we have a lot of exciting news to share with you all, so let's jump into it.

Server News

Roles! We've added a plethora of new roles to the server. We have a role for every Zelda game, and you can choose any two you'd like. Share your love for your favorite of the series. There's also special roles, the Spirit Medallions! You can receive one of these medallions for anything on the server, whether its making a joke, helping a user, sending a quality meme, literally anything. Moderators can choose to give you any of these roles at anytime, but feel free to nominate people in #help for anything you'd like. See if you can get all six! Our last roles are very exciting and special: Secret Roles! You can get these roles for very specific actions on the server, but we won't tell you what those actions are. If your DMs are open, we will send you a message when you receive one of these roles. Secondly, we have added two new bots: ProBot and Sprinto! ProBot at the current moment is specifically for moderation use, but if requested we will consider the levelling up features that the bot provides. Let us know if you're interested! Sprinto is our writing sprint bot! We want to encourage all forms of creativity on our server, so please feel free to start and participate in writing sprints while you're here! Maybe there will even be writing sprints during the fight that can get you points . . . We shall see! feel free to take the Sprinter role in #grab-some-roles in order to access the channels for Sprinto!

Staff Team Updates

Due to IRL circumstances, one of our admins has had to step down. At the moment we are not looking for a replacement, but if this role interests you, stay tuned and we will keep you updated. We are currently looking for more point counters and submission moderators! These are seasonal positions, just for the month of February, however we will get you situated mid-January so you're all set for the fight. These roles are meant to be calmer and less hectic, but still super important. Fill out this form if you are interested in one of these positions.

Fight News

We are gradually getting ready for February, adding roles and preparing for the event. We've been sorting everyone into the two teams and getting the channels all set up. So . . . What are the two teams? Well, we're finally ready to tell you. February 2022 LOZAF teams are:

This gorgeous artwork will be our banner for the next few months, created by the wonderful @pluviatrix. Thank you so much for your artwork and talent, this looks amazing! If you were curious about the grading system for the attacks, we have completed our Attack Guide for Drawings! Feel free to check out this guide linked above. This will be available all the time so you can reference it whenever you would like.

Hello everyone, and an early merry Christmas to all celebrating! Not a huge amount of updates this time around, but just to catch you all up to speed and remind you all about our activities.

LOZAF'S BIG BANG

We are still getting participants for the contest, and have some amazing submissions so far! You have until January 20th to submit your pieces, so join in the fun!

In terms of server news . . .

Starting January 1st, we will be looking for a few point counters and submission moderators to get ready for the fight in February! Stay tuned for the volunteer form.

We're creating a couple of secret roles that users can collect for different activities on the server. Here's a couple of them, maybe you can guess what you need to do to get them ;) - Last of the Line - Family (?) Happy December, everyone! We're heading into the holiday season, so we have prepared some fun winter activities for everyone.

You've heard about the gift exchange, if not click here for some more information. Participation forms are open until December 2nd, so you still have a day to decide if you wish to join in. We also have one more event planned, and that is:

LOZAF'S Winter Wonderland Big Bang!

We're doing a Big Bang event! For those unfamiliar with that event type, all it involves is posting all content made for the event on a certain day with a hashtag, to cause a big flood (or a big bang!) of support and attention!

Our hashtag will be: #lozafwinterwonderlandbigbang21

We ask that creators either hold off on posting their creations until the day of the Big Bang, or to reupload their pieces on the day.

Let's get into the details!

All participants can make either a fanfic or artwork that fits into the themes provided. These themes are:

- Staying Warm on Those Chilly Hebra Nights! Brr, it can get awfully cold up here! How can we stay warm inside? How many pairs of gloves do I need to put on?! What fun winter activities can I do while staying warm inside? - Zora Fountain Makes a Great Skating Rink! With all the water frozen over, it makes for a wonderful place to skate and even play a game of hockey! What other fun activities can we do outside during the winter?

Themes are pretty loose because we want to see your creativity! Show us what you can make with either a fanfic or an artwork! The art can be any medium, even cosplay.

Just like the event in February, this one is open to OCs, redesigns, and even canon characters. LU characters are also included!

All submissions go in the #winter-wonderland-big-bang-submissions channel on the LOZAF Discord, so you must be a member of the server if you wish to participate.

Prizes!

All submissions will be entered into a raffle, and three winners will be chosen at random. The prizes are as follows: 1st Place: one month of Discord Nitro, a commissioned fanfic, and an artwork 2nd Place: a commissioned fanfic, and an artwork 3rd Place: choice of either a commissioned fanfic or artwork

Final submissions will be accepted on January 20th, 2022.

The Big Bang itself will happen on January 23rd, 2022, and the winners will be announced at that time as well.

Winter Wonderland Gift Exchange

Hello all! The LOZ Artfight team wanted to do something for the holiday season, and part of that is a gift exchange! It'll be run like a secret santa event, but gifts will be due mid-January as opposed to Christmas.

This event will be TLOZ themed and open to TLOZ OCs, just as in the main LOZ Artfight event. Because this is a smaller event and not point based, it's open to both Artists and Writers! Sign-ups for the event end on December 2nd (11:59 EST), so if you want to join fill out the sign-up form ASAP! Sign-Up Form

JANUARY 15: Gift giving day! Some questions on the form may be aimed more towards artists -- this is not to ostracized writers, but rather to ensure that no one is assigned to a gift that they feel is outside of their comfort zone, and as NSFW is strictly prohibited these questions largely fell to the art side of things. Hello, everyone! This is the first of biweekly newsletters, discussing server/event updates, changes, and just general information. We hope you'll follow us to get the latest news and knowledge about LOZAF!

For starters, as of November 1st, the Discord server is officially open! Feel free to come join us for fun and good company. You can also submit characters to be used in the fight, which, as a reminder, is happening in February 2022.

Secondly, it's time we introduce our staff team. We have a small group of us, all ready to help and assist with anything you might need. Feel free to ask us questions in the #help channel on the Discord, or shoot us DMs here or on Discord.

Admins - overseeing server function and updates

Our server is now up and running! Feel free to come and check everything out, submit your characters, and meet our team!

FAQ: What is the Legend of Zelda: Artfight?

Here is the essential FAQ that you've been asking for. It covers basic information, rules, notes about the Discord, and so much more. If something isn't covered in this FAQ, feel free to DM us!

What is this event? This event is a fanmade project, run by fans for fans, to bring artists together and help build community. It's designed like the annual Artfight, except it's based off of the Legend of Zelda. Creators submit Zelda OCs and character redesigns, and other creators can attack them by drawing those characters. You can even draw characters from the series, too, they don't need to be original characters!

Where/when is this event being held? The event is starting on February 1st, 2022, and it will be held over Discord. You can start submitting characters as soon as the server opens, which will be on November 1st, 2021.

Why Discord? Discord allows for a convenient search and upload experience, since we do not have our own website. As well, it allows us to make many different chatrooms for creators to gather in and meet one another.

What are the rules for joining? There are no skill requirements for the event, all we ask is that creators are kind and respectful towards one another, and be honest about their creations. Zero bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated, and any harassment towards creators or the staff team will be dealt with swiftly.

How are points going to be counted? We have a hand-picked team of moderators and point counters that will be doing all the counting for each of the teams. Every piece will have a different point value, and that is based off of things like: color, value, polish, complexity, pose, etc.. Everyday at 12am EST, an admin will upload all the scores that day to the masterlist of scores. We're still working on the point graphs, so bear with us for a little longer.

How do we "attack" other creators? During the event, you would upload an art piece to the respective attack channel in the server. There's a few pieces of information we require when you post your attack, and these include: name of the piece, @ of the person who you are attacking, type of character (canon, redesign, OC, or Linksona), character name, medium, and of course the image itself.

Can we attack creators that aren't on the Discord? No, the person you are attacking must be on the Discord. We do not wish to bother those who do not wish to participate, as well we cannot count submissions that are outside of the server.

Can we submit old art pieces as attacks? No, they must be made during the event.

Can we counterattack? Yes! Depending on how many counters you have in a chain, you even get a bonus multiplier for your points.

What mediums can we use to attack? You can make digital or traditional drawings/paintings, sculpture, craft (i.e. paper), animation, even cosplay. But once again we must emphasize: your creation must be made during the event.

Can we post our art pieces on Tumblr or another media too? Yes, we openly encourage you to share your art pieces! If you'd like, please use the hashtag #lozaf22, as we would love to see your pieces!
