A bit of history trivia on Edmund Ironside who is only mentioned in chapter 18, 61 and 62 in the Vinland saga manga, but plays a significant role in Canute the Great’s history:

King Ethelred died on 23 April 1016, and the citizens and councillors in London chose Edmund as king and likely crowned him, while the rest of the Witan, meeting at Southampton, elected Canute. Edmund as a response to this mounted a last-ditch effort to revive the defence of England and for six months Edmund and Canute fought one another in many battles. But at the decisive Battle of Assandun on 18 October, Eadric and his men fled and Canute decisively defeated Edmund. The two kings met to negotiate peace on an island called Olney, where they were recorded to grow surprisingly close according to historian Ryan Lavelle.
