im sure lots of people will listen to TTPD and discount it because she talks about matty in it (and ofc people have their valid issues with him, but im not gonna go into that), but the whole lead up to the album has been “we’re investigating,” and imo a lot of us took that as her saying “we’re investigating why my relationship ended” whereas the album is actually about “we’re investigating this caricature of a girl who went through something life-changing, and she has apparently gone crazy” and she’s basically done a public autopsy of herself; something that the media/fans/public have done since the beginning, but this time around she was like “i’ll do it to myself.”

hence, the album aesthetic feels so sterile too imo. she’s trying to distance herself from the subject but!!!!!! she is the subject. and in conclusion, i think what she’s really putting down is “the summary of the investigation of this girl is that she went insane because of what happened to her, but it’s hopefully gonna be okay”

sidenote: i think what we need to take away from the album is to… let her live…

Fact is oghren loved branka in the way y’all can only put in fanfic & wattpad kidnapped by one direction stories. Oghren loved his paragon so much that he drove his entire house into the dust just for a CHANCE to fight for her. 2 entire years he spent banging on the doors of the assembly/palace demanding she not be abandoned. Of course it drove him to drinking and raging and drinking some more, he was taught that paragons are living GODS (pretty much) and was contending with the cruel, shattering reality that it’s been reduced to just face and politics. And there’s a lot to unpack about political corruption there but there is also a note to be made about how far into the abyss the darkspawn have pushed his proud people into over generations upon generations. He isn’t just mourning branka he is mourning honor and culture and religion. His OWN but also his PEOPLE’S. You’re not allowed to talk to him about it though uhh fart joke - here, hold that

Fourth Wing review - spoiler free

I said I wasn't going to start this until the series finished but I fucked that one up. If the series ends at 3 or 5 or never, I'm not mad I started. I'm just mad I threw my Kindle at chapter 35.

For the record, I am a romantasy glutton. I've also had coworkers saying they knew I'd get obsessed with it and congrats you two, y'all were right.

I started this book on a friday and finished it saturday. I did absolutely nothing since picking this book up.

I only have a couple minor criticisms, but ultimately its expected gripes for me to have. Because of course, the FMC has to be super extra special on top of the immediately established special. I also hate to say I predicted a few of the bombs dropped in this book, but it clearly didn't take away from my experience.

Now onto screaming this book's praises, because I really loved this book. I haven't had a book keep me up that late since the Divine Rivals duology (which you should also be reading). The side characters in particular took my heart. Xaden and Violet are fine and all, but the side characters? *chefs kiss*

The spice is there, the story is fantastic, and I love the dragons so much. Dear god though, the fucking cliffhangers!

My thoughts of Godkiller by Hannah Kaner! (spoiler free, go read it yourself!)

I just finished this book last week after it'd been sitting on my Kindle for months and I'm kind of sad I never picked it up sooner! I had been wanting a book like this for eons. Out of the gate, it presents a unique world with fascinating gods and magic rules I haven't seen anywhere else before. The characters you meet along the way immediately steal your heart and feel so realistic, which is honestly a breath of fresh air. Kaner has an extremely talented way of worldbuilding and making these fantasy characters feel like real people. Except for Skediceth, the god of white lies, who I am glad to say reads exactly how I'd expect him to. Ultimately I loved this book and thought it was a great time and I'll start the sequel, Sunbringer, as soon as I'm finished with Iron Flame.
