max does have his group of friends, but livia is special, and a lot of time she's an absolute relief compared to them. he's grateful for her, and he loves her. "me too," he smiles, returning the kiss to her cheek. "i love you too, livia. thank you for being my friend."
she knew he had multiple people he could probably call best friends, and it was really an honor to be among them too. it didn't have to be a mutual thing, but she was crazy glad that it was. the thing is, even if they're not still involved. there definitely is still a part of max that currently still wants to please her, for her to approve of him and like what he's doing, and he thinks this is a good way to do it. he thinks over her question, over what he's done recently. "maybe...i really don't do school spirit, but dad would be proud..."
"don't you dare!" jo laughed. the costume loft naps were really meant to be a secret between members of the theater department. "if anyone finds you there, pretend you're supposed to be there," she instructed him. "or you could actually do something with the theater department. i know you don't do school functions, but it could be fun and i think you'd be good at it." max was dramatic enough, he had tons of potential.

"that sounds perfect! i'm excited to see." it wasn't like livia knew much about cars anyway. if he didn't say something she'd heard about she'd have to wait and find out if she recognized it anyway. she was just happy for him, to spend time with him and to see how he glowed when she asked about the car. "i just know you're going to make the best use of this newfound freedom," she chuckled, winking at him in an equally conspiratorial manner.

max has gotten used to working through aki's anxiety, over the years, and this isn't really anything new to him by now. he shakes his head, smiling softly. "i don't mind, aki, you know that. whatever you need, i'm here for you."
The last thing that Aki wanted was for Max to feel bad for his anxiety. It was never anyone's fault and Aki knew that he needed to work on it, so that it wasn't something anyone had to feel bad about. "I believe you," he promised. "I'm sorry about being anxious, that's not fair to you but I promise I'm working on it."

sure, he knows people feel lucky to be with him, he wouldn't be max wolfe if he weren't, but not like this, not in the way where aki genuinely feels like he's lucky just because he's here, but because he's slept with him. he smiles at aki, although there's a quiet nag that it's not true. "i appreciate that, a lot."
What made Aki sad was hearing Max admit that he didn't hear that someone was lucky to have him very often. He knew he couldn't change the past but he could change the present and future and show Max that he was wanted and cared for. That Aki wasn't going to go anywhere. "You deserve to hear it and so much more more often," he replied softly, meaning it.
