Today's top finds from my charity shop rummaging! I walked up to Cotham and Whiteladies Road to look for treasures today. It was a real treat. I think I went in ten or 11 different charity shops and looked through hundreds of records. I see a lot of the same records and I've started to wonder if that's a general time based event and collectively across the country everyone is getting rid of the same records, or if it's a localised thing where there are regional trends for what to keep and what to give away. Either way, Bristol is currently flooded with the following artists: Cliff Richard Paul Young Chris Rea Engelbert Humperdink Roxy Music
Yesterday's charity shop finds: two vintage toy sewing patterns - a bargain at 25p each! They have never been used, I can't wait to trace them and give them a go. The bear's duffle coat is especially cute :-)
Four new additions to my Morrissey / The Smiths vinyl wall - from Plastic Wax Records on Cheltenham Road, Bristol. Clockwise from top left: Morrissey: Piccadilly Palare, £4 The Smiths: Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me, £6 The Smiths: I Started Something I Couldn't Finish, £6 The Smiths: Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now, £8
Yesterday I was incredibly lucky to see the wonderful Matthew Luhn speak at Wildscreen. He talked about storytelling, and about his work as a Story Artist at Pixar. It was a great mix of practical advice, entertainment and inspiration, and even after two hours, it felt too soon to finish.
He spoke about the importance of structuring stories, which is something I have struggled to communicate in my comic talks. I'll be using his advice to improve my talk before I go to Amsterdam next month for DSGN Day!
Morrissey Curates The Ramones
DETAILS

Release type: RSD Exclusive Release
More Info:
Morrissey, being a big Ramones fan, particularly of the early years, had always wanted to compile a “best of” album and this year he got his wish. This compilation reflects Morrissey’s experience of listening to the band for the first time. With the sad passing of Tommy recently, both management and Morrissey felt this was a fitting tribute. The use of the Union Jack on the cover reflects both how important the band were to the UK music scene but also how the UK embraced them and their sound. The photo on the back cover by Danny Fitzgerald is evocative of the period and was selected by Morrissey.
