I donât know who needs to hear this today, but intrusive thoughts are basically your brainâs (sometimes very upsetting) way of saying âIf there were two guys on the moon and one of them killed the other with a rock would that be fucked up or what?â
Iâve personally found that adding the âwould that be fucked or what?â part in myself really helps put the more disturbing thoughts we sometimes get into perspective. Helps me say âyeah thar sure would be fucked upâ and move on with my day.
Itâs not not a secret desire, itâs not something that only occurs to you because youâre a bad person. Itâs just your brain deciding to process the fact that it knows an uncomfortable thing exists in the world by feeding it to you in an absurd âwhat ifâ with you as the main character.
"Don't use Libby because it costs libraries too much, pirate instead" is such a weird, anti-patron, anti-author take that somehow manages to also be anti-library, in my professional librarian-ass opinion.
It's well documented that pirating books negatively affects authors directly* in a way that pirating movies or TV shows doesn't affect actors or writers, so I will likely always be anti-book piracy unless there's absolutely, positively no other option (i.e. the book simply doesn't exist outside of online archives at all, or in a particular language).
Also, yeah, Libby and Hoopla licenses are really expensive, but libraries buy them SO THAT PATRONS CAN USE THEM. If you're gonna be pissed at anybody about this shitty state of affairs, be pissed at publishing companies and continue to use Libby or Hoopla at your library so we can continue to justify having it to our funding bodies.
One of the best ways to support your library having services you like is to USE THOSE SERVICES. Yes, even if they are expensive.
*Yes, this is a blog post, but it's a blog post filled with links to news articles. If you can click one link, you can click another.
itâs sooo funny when rude customers encounter employees who can deny them service for the first time.
i was working at a little cafe where I could deny service over bad behavior, harassment etc. & mask mandates had just ended a week before & already people were being weird about me still wearing mineâan N95, the kind shaped kinda like a duckbill.
so this man walked in, looked at me sooo scathingly, laughed at me, and said âdamn. never known a woman to chooseâŚpracticality over looks.â
And I just said, âoh. you can go, youâre not getting a drink.â And he said, âwhat???â
I said, âsir, you just walked in at 6 am & called women impractical and me ugly in one sentence.â
And he was so astonished he didnât even argue he just turned around and left đđđť it was like he suddenly became self aware
ârelationships are workâ means âyou have to put effort into loving each other intentionally & learning how to love each other and communicating properlyâ not âyour relationship makes you feel stressed and sad most of the time & the other person disrespects you and treats you bad but you stay anywayâ
When a meme is representing the "bad/wrong" opinion with an image of a drooling person with a dented head, especially contrasted to white people with blonde hair and blue eyes, maybe it's time to reconsider posting or reblogging it. Just a thought.
