its frightening how snobby i've inadvertently made myself by virtue of reading basically exclusively older stuff. i straight up hate modern prose. its so fucking stupid and ugly and empty. it takes me out of the novel. why is everyone so allergic to imagery and to making your sentences longer than half a line. unbearable. everyone seems to be dumbing themselves down. gaga goo goo shit. the collective vocabulary of writers appears to have shrunk drastically.
