I feel like this whole exchange year stuff is the handle of the door to the future we want to live. A future full of countries, traveling, memories and meeting new people.
Exchange students seem a little different regarding this stuff. Exchange students donāt want to stay in one place. Theyā¦ we want to see every atom in the whole universe.
Just a feeling though.

Having your personal driver 'cause you can't drive in your host country

Please
Ugh
Stop asking me when Iām leaving
Stop asking me if Iāll get credit for school
Stop asking me if Iām nervous or excited
Stop asking me if Iāll be homesick
Stop telling me Iām brave
Stop asking where in my host country Iām goingā¦ You donāt know of my obscure town
Stop telling me things people do in my host country
Stop telling me about your trip there that one time
Stop assuming Iām not doing any work there
Stop assuming Iāll be a tourist
Stop asking why Iām doing this
Stop assuming Iāll go to an English-speaking school
Stop assuming my parents are rich
Stop assuming Iām not getting my own paperwork in order
Stop asking what will happen when I get back
Stop trying to tell me what I should bring, do, or send home
Stop assuming my host family are creepy
Stop thinking my parents are insane for letting this happen
Stop saying you canāt wait to see me at Christmasā¦ Iām not allowed to come back for some sort of holiday?
Stop asking if my family will come visit
Stop asking if I speak the language

Oh my, it happens to me all the time ! I sometimes even become a little paranoid
I hate when I see someone that resembles someone from back home because it takes a second for me to realize that Iām on the other side of the globe, in a foreign country and theyāre probably at home, carrying on with their daily routine.

Dang. My life
just international student things:
teaching each other swear words in your languages
trying to learn the unwritten social rules what do you mean you have to take your shoes off inside
knowing more people from other countries than the country youāre in
āI should come visit youāĀ
how do people not have [food item] in the supermarket??????
struggling with the international student officeĀ
ālmao why would you come here to study this country sucksāĀ
getting strangely patriotic even though you werenāt before
but seriously itās weird I kinda love my own country more now?
having someone come up to you and sayĀ āhey I know something in your language!ā and itās a swear word

Before going: 1 whole year by myself in another country, making a lot of new friends and away of my normal life. Awesome
During the program: what the fuck am I doing here? Who put me in here? I'm insane... Mom??

Going on exchange is actually kind of crazy if you think about it. Like bye mom and dad, Iām gonna go live in a foreign country where I donāt understand anything and live with people Iāve never met. See you in a year.
