as a huge lover of birds, 90% of the concern against wind turbines being used for energy is literally just pro fossil fuel propaganda. birds ARE at a risk however there is a lot of strategies even as simple as painting one of the blades that reduces a lot of accidental deaths. additionally renewable energy sources will do more in favor of the environment that would positively impact birds (and all of us). one study found over one million bird deaths from wind turbines. while that is a shockingly high number and we should work to drastically shrink it, at least 1.3 billion birds die to outdoor cats on a yearly basis. it was never about caring about birds

Would people be interested in a video course on noncommutative algebra? The prerequisite knowledge would be linear algebra, basic group module theory and in the end some knowledge of Galois theory. Topics I might teach would include: Jacobson Radical Theory Central Simple Algebras Wedderburn-Artin and Wedderburn-Mal'tsev The Double Centraliser Theorem Noether-Skolem Theorem Brauer group Theory Crossed Products and Galois Theory Group Cohomology, briefly, and connection with the Brauer Group Further topics to be decided (Maybe Morita Theory, or more Brauer Theory).

Why in the 90s? Apartheid was beginning to end in 1990, and by 1994 South Africa was a somewhat democratic country.
i think the university protests in the US have shifted the conversation a little bit towards BDS re: israel stuff which i think is good. like. i think its a significant fact that 1) israel does crazy human rights violations constantly, and 2) is mostly treated like an upstanding member of the internationla community, especially economically. like it should be bad optics to do israel stuff in the same way it was bad optics to do south africa stuff in the 90s

attention management
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi, it’s werelivingarts again. During online school, I find it extremely hard to concentrate on schoolwork since there are so many distractions on laptops, phones and even in your home. Sometimes, you have plan to work but your brain won’t collaborate, so here is some tips to help you with attention management. 😊
This post is based on James Clear’s Guide to Productivity and Real Simple’s Attention Management. I also made a video behind the scene of designing this post, you can see it here.

💬 Linguistics Challenge 📚 - December
This challenge will teach you the basics of linguistics step-by-step over the course of 12 months.
This month, we’ll look at: some additional resources to learn more about linguistics.
Each month has a few little exercises (depending on how complex the topic is), so you can take breaks in between days or use those days to revise and practice. I’ve put links to all the topics on which i made blog posts, but you’re very welcome to do your own research online.
This challenge is based on what I learned in the first semesters of my linguistic studies at uni, and it’s aimed at giving you a broad introduction and teaching you the most important concepts from several different fields of linguistics.
If you want, you can share your work via reblog with the tag #linguisticschallenge, i’d love to see your contributions :)
This is the last part of this challenge and there won’t be any tasks this time, but a list of further study material and resources if you want to learn more about linguistics or want to gain special knowledge in one linguistic field:
You could look at:
the Babel language magazine
the lecture Linguistics 101 by the University of Toronto
the linguistics videos by CrashCourse
the coursera course ‘Introduction to Linguistics’
the coursera course ‘Comparative Indo-European Linguistics’
the coursera course ‘The Bilingual Brain’
the YouTube channel Ling Space
this tumblr post: Teach Yourself Linguistics
the following masterlists: list of linguistic movies, documentaries, and TV show episodes, linguistics & language podcasts, how to teach yourself linguistics online & linguistics Youtube channels & other free online videos about linguistics
If you want to learn even more, you could check out my linguistics masterpost to see if i made any new posts after creating this challenge.

did you know they say calculus is the language of God. did you know they tried to hold math up to infinity like a candle to the void. did you know statisticians plunged into the vastness of random chance and picked out patterns and equations and eight hundred ways to tell you how big your inevitable errors are and how far off those guesses at errors might be. math haters I can't sit with you anymore. human innovation is cradled in these ancient, methodical, desperate attempts at understanding what we are not designed to understand

⭐️Study Challenge⭐️
Tumblr media
I have made a little 30 day study challenge for myself and anyone who wants to take part. Just answer a question everyday after revising, I’ve done it as a grid so it can be crossed off as you go. Staying motivated can be hard but hopefully this helps a little :)
If you do take part please use the #subatomicstudychallenge because I’m genuinely interested in the answers to some of the questions.
The questions are also listed below.
Day 1: Lets start easy what subject(s) are you studying?
Day 2: What inspired you to take your subject(s)?
Day 3: Where/When do you get most of your work done?
Day 4: What is your favourite topic within your subject(s)?
Day 5: If you were to describe your subject(s) in one word what would that word be?
Day 6: Where would you like your subject to take you?
Day 7: What interesting fact have you learned recently?
Day 8 : What do you find difficult within your subject(s)?
Day 9: What is your favourite song in your study playlist?
Day 10: What subject related book would you recommend to read?
Day 11: Do you have any hobbies or special talents?
Day 12: What’s a movie you enjoy that’s related to your field of study?
Day 13: What misconception about your subject annoys you?
Day 14: What did you want to be growing up?
Day 15 Who is your STEM idol?
Day 16: Do you know any funny STEM jokes or puns?
Day 17: What article or video have you seen recently that fascinated you?
Day 18: Do you have a wow thats so cool moment/memory from your subject?
Day 19: Whats your favourite equation or formula?
Day 20: When you’ve had a bad/long day what makes you feel better?
Day 21: What textbook are you currently working from?
Day 22: What’s something you plan on learning to do?
Day 23: If you had to take a different subject/course what would it be?
Day 24: What colour do you associate with your subject?
Day 25: STEM subjects tend to have complex looking/sounding words, what’s your favourite?
Day 26: What makes your subject beautiful/interesting?
Day 27: If you could, is there something you would tell your younger self?
Day 28: Is there a cool gadget or experiment you like?
Day 29: Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Day 30: You made it!! Take some time to reflect on the last 30 days.

I think we should replace "theorem" with "hot take" from now on. Pythagoras' hot take. Fundamental hot take of algebra
Hello! Thanks for sharing your hot take. Your opinion is Wrong and I am going to tell you Why.
“Hot take” should be reserved for statements which are conjectured or hypothesized but not proven. Despite not being proven, a statement should have some evidence in its favor before being presented as a hot take.
On the other hand, once something is proven, it is tea. To prove something is to spill the tea. A proof is an effortpost. Proper format for spilling the tea is to write the statement of the tea, followed by “in this essay I will,” and then the effortpost, beginning with statement of assumptions. A proper effortpost ends with “thank you for coming to my TED talk,” or “TED” for short. Allow me to demonstrate.
Fermat’s Little Tea.
For p, a ∈ ℤ, if p is a prime which does not divide a, then a^(p-1) = 1 (mod p).
In this essay I will let p, a ∈ ℤ, such that p is a prime which does not divide a. Lagrange’s theorem indicates that ℤ/pℤ* is a cyclic group under multiplication. As such the order of any element of ℤ/pℤ* is the order of the group, p-1. Since p does not divide a, a is an element of ℤ/pℤ*, and as such, its order in the group is p-1. Therefore a^(p-1) = 1 (mod p). TED.
The Four Color Tea is notable for being the first major tea spilled by computer. The Four Color Tea, then the Four Color Hot Take, was first proposed by Francis Guthrie in 1852. The tea was notoriously difficult to spill, but over a century later, in 1976, Wolfgang Haken and Kenneth Appel presented an effortpost using a very advanced (for the time) computer at the University of Illinois.
The first person to spill the tea on the Riemann Hot Take with an effortpost accepted by experts will be the recipient of a million dollar prize.

Okay, mathblr roll call!
Reblog this and tag as many mathblrs as you can (who aren't already tagged). For these purposes, "mathblr" can be a math-emphasis studyblr, a mathematical artist, a math shitposter, a suffering student who happens to post about math decent amount, et cetera.
