its a strange combination…I know.
the thing is I have an obsession with Trump memes and sweet juicy candies. 🍬 living back at home, you stumble upon things that you left back in your childhood. Like I will find the most random things... I was looking in an old wardrobe dresser because I wanted to put a screen protector on my iPad (the Paperlike screen protector btw that makes your screen into paper... it’s amazing how it works). Sometimes I throw random things in there so I ripped open the drawers and started digging in.
when Trump was president in 2020.. it was a year that seemed like I was living in a simulation. Like an acid trip gone terribly wrong. The world turned upside down with COVID, police brutality, the pandemic, unemployment, and so many deaths. On top of that I was stuck in the house as a newly wed. Living with him, his mother, and cousin who had heavy Kenyan accents that I could only understand after a couple of “huh’s” or “what’s” here and there. I HATED that life for me.
sketching has always been an escape for me. Some people play videos games, or watch tv when they need to get away for a moment. I choose drawing every time. But I do like to watch tv when I’m doing it. During 2020 watching the news was the only thing that was on in the Kenyan household. When we woke up and from when we fell asleep, it was a constant bright screen with big bold letters and reporters stating how many more people died in that week. It really got to me and I almost went insane. Watching Trump’s antics and hilarious reactions was the only fun part about the news. I found peace in eating starbursts, drawing, and watching Trump embarrass himself in front of the world.
it’s a new year, maybe he’ll make me actually tune into the news. No lemon starbursts pls 🍋🚫

Today I saw these crushed boxes while on a nice walk with my boyfriend. The color and composition of the boxes caught my eye. I’m the type to pull out my phone if I see something cool.
We were on our way to a global market to see all the cool stuff they had in there. We saw a cow tongue and a part of me wonders what that would taste like with some rice… 🐄

Branding identity in progress 👩🏾💻
A new client is looking for a minimalist logo for her consulting company. These are the sketches I came up with by using her responses on my questionnaire and by playing around with the word “changes.”

NYC for the weekend ✈️
New York has some of the best art murals, architecture and… pizza. 🍕My friends and I decided to do an impromptu weekend getaway and take pics.
We also did a time lapse of the city from our hotel room which was perfect because the lighting looked amazing!

Visiting a new art exhibit at the Hirshorn museum with my fren. 🖼️
The Hirshorn always has interesting exhibits. This particular one was dedicated to Edgar Allen Poe which is why there is a giant crow. The words written on the walls almost were like spells. We didn’t stay in that room long because it felt a little satanic. My spirit said RUN. But everything else there was cool.
Edgar Allen Poe had some demons for sure.

This picture book I got last week at the bookstore honestly inspired me.
Andy J Pizza, creator of the podcast “The Creative Pep Talk” created this with his wife. His podcast nourishes my creative side so getting his book was a no brainer. ‘Invisible Things’ pictures everything that we can’t see; feelings, dreams, ideas, etc. The book challenges the viewer to look past the visible things and reflect on the invisible things in your own life. The book is fun and playful. The font is also fitting because it is a handwriting typeface that resembles colored pencil. If I had a kid, I would give them this book.
Maybe I’ll make it a family relic and pass it down to my kids kids.

In honor of the Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, here is a throwback to when I saw the Queen in DC this year! 🪩🐝
It was a huge thunderstorm that ended up delaying the show a couple of hours. People were trying to find anything to cover themselves up in the storm. But it was completely worth it after the performance she put on. Even in the rain, her voice sounded majestic and captivating. The dancers were on fire and the visuals ate. We also got to see how great her hair stylist is because while everyone looked a hot wet mess, Beyoncé’s hair curled up perfectly while she moved gracefully across the stage. It ran for a little over 3 hours but I couldn’t help but to was sing and dance entire time. The show was magical and I will be in the theaters to experience it once again.
I left the show drenched. Worth it.
