MINSEOK
minseok is honestly shameless after having spent almost most of his twenties working in a bar. he’s never hesitated on things before and makes himself seem like a sort of chaotic actor. he offers her a sweet smile. their first date was a fluke and honestly he could have gone for a second back then but she hadn’t really seemed interested in him so he’d ended up just leaviing it as is. their past failure means that the date can only go up from here.
no shame at all. of course they could talk about it and besides fans digging around would have found the date anyway. he’s sure that there’s pictures of them together on his instagram and the bar instagram where he worked. as she slaps his arm, he just winks at her.
“if you say so! i’m always up for trying new things so this will be fun,” he grins at the cameras rolling. he likes to have fun with people and even if their first date was a semi mess, then at least their second can be decent.  he grins at her and upon taking her hand, he leads the way. they would entertain and he would keep that up.
leading the way to their date, minseok let out a gasp. he immediately looked at the cameras in disappointment and lowkey shock. “well…i’m not a sports kid…so i don’t know what ya’ll were expecting from me but it’s defintaely not that!” he exclaims, pointing at the kayak.
holding his hand was nice, and it almost felt natural. jiao wasn’t the biggest fan of faking it for the camera ( although she was certainly prepared to do so ), so being able to put on a smile that didn’t want to make her gag was nice. she lets her lips curve upwards with easy, and allows her date to lead her towards their adventure.
she’s dumbfounded. and now really, extra, super extra glad she didn’t wear that skirt.
jiao attempts to laugh it off, but suddenly she’s worried. kayaking? the woman was perfectly aware this wasn’t some extreme sport, but it threatened to make her sweat like it was one. the sound of her laugh is pleasant, but there’s some obvious hesitation laced beneath. she had absolutely had no idea how to do this, and it seemed as if minseok was in the exact same boat as her. no pun intended.
“um... well, i can definitely say that was unexpected.” another small laugh, a quick hand running through her hair just checking to make sure no nervous sweat had trickled to the surface. it takes her a moment to compose herself, to throw on that hopeful attitude she was known for on and off camera. “but it’s okay! it’ll be fun learning how to do this together, don’t you think?”

“okay,” she nods, “that sounds good.” and her attention is immediately on the task before them. the staff play a clip of the choreography; luckily the song is familiar. instantly, she’s relieved, but only for a moment. because as the choreography begins and her mind is racing to collect what she’s seen, jiao is overwhelmed.
but no one has to know that.
she’s nodding as her eyes dance across the screen, following the series of movements and attempting to soak it in. jiao just needs confidence to lead her, and everything else will fall into place. she’s got faith in that. “hmmm, so what do you think?” biting her lip, the woman casts her gaze over to the man. “i don’t think it’ll be too bad.” lying through her teeth.

【    TRAINEE MISSION 004    ⤑    THE PERFORMANCE   】 ˊ  ―   LIU JIAO
“you? nervous? please.” jiao can only pout at jiran’s words of disbelief. her friend looks unimpressed, arms folded over her chest and left foot kicked over her other. “you’re just saying that to make me feel better.”
“i am allowed to get nervous too.” she huffs, tucking a piece of perfectly styled black hair behind her ear. jiao may not look it, not under the makeup she had done herself just for this performance, but she was nervous. and extremely so.
jiao usually wasn’t one to get nervous, so she couldn’t really blame the other woman for struggling to believe her. but today was different. she cared too much about her performance to appear nonchalant, cared too much about impressing everyone to blow this off like she did everything else. she couldn’t just wing it and get by; she needed to do this.
she wets her lips with her tongue, and immediately blanches at the taste of her sticky lip gloss. gross. “okay fine then, why’re you so nervous anyway? it’s just some silly competition between the companies - what’s the big deal?”
but jiao wasn’t one to share her insecurities.
nevermind, jiao sighs and quickly changes the subject, what do you think of my new shoes? i bought them last week just for this! cute, right?
jiran could only roll her eyes.
Tumblr media
liu jiao. her turn had finally come, but her legs felt like lead. it takes everything in her to pick up her feet and march to the stage, to feign a look of confidence because confidence is everything. years in the entertainment industry taught her to fake it; anxiety was never a good look. they wanted to charisma, confidence, not a woman who looked like she was going to puke all over the stage.
she’s standing before the judges too quickly for her to notice, and soon the SONG is starting up. jiao begins facing the back, her legs slightly cattycornered so she can glance over her shoulder and pop to the beat.
and just like that, she’s in the moment.
jiao had purposefully chosen a song to her liking, one that she was familiar with and matched with attitude. it wasn’t hard for her to soak in the lyrics from the song, to feel the vibe and present her onlookers with confidence.
she holds contact with whoever’s gaze she meets, making up for what she lacks in skill with charisma and hunger for an entertaining performance. she glides through the movements as naturally as she could; every movement of the choreography engrained in her memory from countless practices.
the song fades before she knows it and she’s breathless.
and more importantly satisfied with the work she’s put into the past month. jiao can only hope to show improvement, to show whatever ambition she had been lacking.

【    TRAINEE MISSION 004    ⤑    JULY   】 ˊ  ―   LIU JIAO
Tumblr media
an entire month dedicated to dance? jiao could not think of anything better.
of course when she told her mother, the woman wasn’t happy, but jiao tried her best to not let her words get to her.
    YOU’RE WASTING YOUR TIME.
no time is wasted when you’re having fun, and that’s all july was to her. fun. for once, the trainee allowed herself to be completely entranced with dance, focusing on improving her performance and skill.
if you would have asked her in the past, jiao probably would’ve agreed with her mother. she was wasting her time, especially if she was going to be an actress. but things change, people change, and jiao thinks she’s changed for the better.
her entire life she had been spread thin. from dancing to acting to modeling, the woman was thrown in every direction. and while it did help her gain experience in the long run, jiao wished she had time to just focus on one thing. because now she was surrounded by the best of the best in literally every skill, and here she was - tiringly average.
and she hated being considered mediocre.
so she practiced harder this month, threw herself entirely into impressing her instructors and evolving her skill. normally, the woman wouldn’t bother with such trivialities. but she wanted to be different, to mature and standout.
and everyone knew she loved nothing more than the spotlight.
when it came time to preparing for the competition, the woman knew exactly what she was doing.
PERFORMING SOLO. that was her best bet.
so jiao spends her time preparing for the competition, looking both to impress and show her personality as a dancer. she didn’t know who she wanted to prove herself more to, though: herself, the judges, or her mother?
and as much as the trainee told herself it was all for her, there was a little part inside of her knowing this was a lie.

MINSEOK
well, damn. just his luck. minseok feigns surprise with a casual giggle when his partner for the date officially joins his side. he laughs a bit. “apparently i am. you get stuck with the handsome bartender again,” he says, grinning. his image is that of a classy flirt so of course, the public loves him and jiao being his date is a shock for sure.
he then turns to the camera and winks. “i’m already familiar with my date partner. this is technically our second date since we went out on a date when i was bartending full time,” he states, spilling the tea. he then adjusts his shirt and looks at her. “you look very pretty, although judging where we are, we may not look pretty for long,” he states.
minseok then offers her his hand. “shall we go see what we will be doing today?” he asks, grinning at her. he’s going to make this a fun date even with their prior acquaintance and meeting. “let’s make this  good tv for them all,” he whispers in her ear with a wink.
jiao begins to wonder who she pissed off to be punished like this. she attempts to feign delight with a soft smile, but she feels her confidence faltering. this really was a mistake.
she didn’t know why she was so bothered by this. perhaps the fact that the pair were already romantically familiar with each other, and they knew this wouldn’t work out. their first date was a fluke (or at least jiao considers it that way seeing as her charms didn’t earn her a second one), and quiet frankly, she’d rather had left it that way. however, here they are and he’s apparently okay with letting everyone know of their past failure.
are we even supposed to talk about that? jiao laughs nervously at her date’s announcement, and she slaps his arm playfully. no comment.
“thank you, but i think we can make it work.” she notes after a moment - mentally patting herself on the back for tossing out that skirt her mother tried to get her to wear. jiao had settled on a light pair of jeans and a baby blue blouse, so maybe this wouldn’t be too bad.
“i would love to.” she doesn’t hesitate to take his hand. just because this didn’t work in the past didn’t mean she couldn’t fake it. they were here to entertain after all, and entertain they would. “lead the way!”

MINSEOK
@lgcjiao
He was quite excited for yet another date! His date with Nari, he thought had gone pretty well and while he liked getting to know Nari, he was excited for his next date. When he’d confirmed his return, he was quite excited again and when the day of filming came, minseok once again dressed quite nicely. But judging that he was supposed to be by the river, he dressed slightly more sensible. He had gone for a stylish white button down and light blue ripped jeans. He liked keeping in tune with his charismatic outlooks.
Upon arrival, he saw the cameras already rolling and he gave the camera a cute wave. “This is my second date! I’m actually rather excited. Last time I was paired with a fellow actor! I wonder who will be my partner this -” he was cut off and upon hearing the new arrival, he laughed. “Oh man, I never thought our second date would be like this!” he exclaimed, seeing his partner for the date. Color him surprised. A girl he’d gone on one date with as a dare and then they never talked again. Oh, how awkward will this be? He had no idea
this would certainly be interesting... “i’m so excited!” and this was 100% true. the cameras are already rolling and following her every move as she strolls down the street. date lottery was an entirely new experience, a new way for her to meet the public and get a little bit more spotlight. and there was simply nothing more that excited her than the spotlight.
“i think we’re almost there.” she announces, hoping to guide whatever viewers tuned in for this on the air date. her eyes are eager as they dance across the street, bouncing from face to face, looking for another set of cameras undoubtedly following her date for the day. she just hoped he was cute, that would certainly make this easier.
a bright smile spreads across her glossed lips as her eyes fall on a tall figure surrounded by a camera crew. there he was. jiao picks up her pace to show her eagerness, but feigns apprehension for the camera. “oh god, there they are. i’m so nervous!” the public always liked the soft, innocent girls.
jiao and a few more cameras find her date, and she skids to a stop by him when she arrives. “hello.” she greets softly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear and craning her head for a peek at his face. but recognition instantly hits her and immediately she regrets her decision to join the show. shit.
    “are you my date?”

she’s unusually nervous, but judging by the situation it would be odd if she wasn’t. jiao had grown used to picking up choreography fast, but not this quickly. they had an hour to learn the movements and perform it on the vlive; the woman had no intent of making herself look like a fool tonight. the trainee craved to be accepted as a dancer, more so than she liked to admit. but most of all, she’d like to be taken seriously. so naturally, of course, she was apprehensive.
yet she did her best to mask it, and good thing she was an actress first. there’s a look of sincere determination across her face, every nerve within her body ignited in preparation for the next hour. how hard could it be? “of course.” no hesitation. “let’s get this started!”

straight to the point, then... jiao fought the urge to raise her brows in question. she didn’t know what she was expected, maybe a chance to warm up to each other? something more than simple hello’s and greetings, but she couldn’t have it both ways. the woman wanted out of here as soon as possible, and she supposed this was the best way.
he seemed excited enough though (judging from the way he approached her table), so maybe this wouldn’t be too bad.
“hmmm, i guess a warm-up does sound best.” the woman was quick to agree. jiao didn’t really have a clue where they should start, but preparing their voices sounded like a good way. she was always too quick to jump into action, and this was a much healthier change of pace.
“that’s fine, i probably need to do some myself anyways.” she smiles. “what should we do first? something quick? maybe... that one humming exercise?” it was merely the first thing she thought of.
“and then we could do a few more if you like before we get into anything else.”

jiao picks at her food, per usual. only pauses every few moments to pick at the sorry excuse for a meal that she had picked out for herself. she pauses to listen to eunji, takes a bite of her salad and frowns at the taste. at least one of them was obviously enjoying their meal.
“you know what idols need? to not talk with their mouth full.” she laughs, covering her grin with the back of her hand. jiao was teasing, her words only half true. talking with a mouth full of food was not a good look for anyone.
“looks obviously don’t get you very far.” she nods pitifully, frowning. “we have to be like... the whole package! or at least that’s what they’re trying to make us out to be. i mean, have you seen all the pretty faces here just waiting around to debut? they’ve been here for years and clearly they’re missing something. we don’t want to be those people.”
she shrugged her shoulders. “i don’t even know, i guess they teach us how to be funny? but i’m not sure if you can teach that...”

MIKE
there were things that mike couldn’t quite explain how and why happened. why he wanted to make jiao anything she wanted. it could have been that he did fancy here a bit, or the fact that her reactions were always priceless to say the least. yeah, she had some priceless reactions. just the thought made him smile.
“but more importantly?“ mike says with a sharp gasp, hand flying to his chest, clutching at his shirt. “oh wow, no how are you mike? no, how did you day go? just, are the rolls warm.“ he shakes his head, completely sure that jiao already knows that he is joking. however, even all that acting doesn’t stop him from reaching for the tub in which the cinnamon goodness were chilling and passes it to her.
“as warm as they can be really.“ he admits with a shrug. in all honestly, if they had headed back to his place after practice he could have baked her some fresh out of the oven ones. however, this was the original plan. maybe next time jiao would say yes to it. “come on, don’t be shy. try them.“ mike adds, popping the lid off so its easier for her to take one. the smell of fresh cinnamon filling the air, it almost gets too tempting for the male to get one himself.
“oh please, don’t be a baby. you know i was getting to that.” she felt like herself, and it was strange. at legacy, there was always something that seemed artificial. she didn’t feel like jiao. she wasn’t used to making her own decisions, being responsible for her career and not knowing where her actions would lead her. she didn’t know what she was doing here anymore - what was her purpose? but mike just made her feel better, more like herself and she couldn’t ask for anything more.
she takes the tub with eager hands because even though she was glad to see him, her concerns regarding the treat wasn’t a complete lie. she needed this. “yes! i’m so glad, they’re always better warm - don’t you think?”
with mike holding the lid of the tub open, jiao doesn’t hesitate to dive in. first she takes one for herself to try - one, because she knows he’s eager for her to try them and two, she really couldn’t help herself. she opens her mouth and brings the treat closer to her lips, taking a large bite of the cinnamon roll and releases a loud sigh of happiness. “oh god, that is so good.”
content with her first bite, the woman pauses to set the tub down on the table - reaching her other hand into the tub and pulling another roll out. “okay your turn, i can’t hog them all.” she smiles, holding the treat up to his lips.

she waited rather impatiently - part of her restless attitude originating from the idea that this was sunday, what happened to my day off? and the fact that she wasn’t too familiar with her partner. lee benji, sure she’s pretty much aware of his existence, but the two hadn’t had the chance to talk. and while she loved making new friends, she knew how this thing could go.
he better not be a control freak, i want this to be easy... the thought alone makes her roll her eyes. leaning back into her chair, she draws her phone closer to her face and blows a stray strand of hair from between her eyes. jiao was rather easy to work with; she never complained. but she would rather not fake her enjoyment and appreciate her partner’s company.
her eyes flicker from the screen of her cell phone to the door of the practice room as it begins to creak open. her eyebrows raise for a moment in curiosity before she’s quick to paint a smile on her lips at the sight of the other.
“oh, hello!” she’s swift to respond, straightening her posture as she rises from her chair. “it’s nice to meet you,” she speaks, dipping into a bow.

her teeth find her lower lip and her eyes fall to the ground. jiao hesitated to speak her answer aloud, but only because she thought it was silly. “hmmm...” despite this, she pretends to be caught in deep thought for a few moments longer. she breaks her silence only when a sly grin spreads across her lips. “well one rule i would just love to ignore is the no pets rule.” an airy laugh bubbles past her upturned lips. “i would love a kitten at the dorms, and it would totally be worth the trouble.”

she wasn’t really hungry. she was worried; this change in schedule over the next few months enough to stifle her routine. although the woman quite liked change, this had her stressed in particular. mainly because she had chose to focus on variety versus acting.
    “i’m doing variety.” she answers.
her mother would kill her if she found out.
but jiao found her interests elsewhere recently, finding herself straying from the talents her mother instilled in her for so many years. does she really want to be an idol? and break her mother’s heart? the thought alone was nauseating.
maybe that’s why the thought of passing up an opportunity to focus on acting all month was particularly worrisome.
a laugh managed to pass her lips at eunji’s rambling. it was cute. somehow she always knew how to distract her, and jiao’s especially thankful for that now. “i think you’re stressing this too much, eunji-ah. we just need to be good idols,” she almost cringed at the mention. “and we have to be entertaining too, you know. dancing and singing won’t get us everywhere... unfortunately.” she shrugged.
“i think you should do variety with me! we could be the variety queens of legacy. eventually, i mean.” a grin falls upon her lips. “how about it?”

MIKE
it wasn’t every day mike brought sweets to training, however he had promised jiao he would bake something. it was a rare occasion for him to do that, but it was jiao after all, one of the few people mike had actual issues saying no to.
that was the main reason why he was sat in one of the studios, clicking through his phone while waiting for the other trainee to show up, eyeing the box of cinnamon rolls every now and again. it was a bit out of his comfort zone, if mike had to be honest, he was too scared to try them at first. however, they weren’t half bad if he had a say.
as soon as the door opened, he looked up, smile wide on his lips as his eyes landed on jiao “well, definitely took you longer than promised.” he teases, reaching over to pull one of the chairs closer to him before patting it.
there was certain pep to her step today. not even she knew why, not a reason that she would accept anyway.
her excitement throughout the day melts into something a bit more urgent as time draws closer. jiao watches the clock on the wall tick. lesson after lesson; it was almost time. and when her last lesson finally ended, the woman was on her way to his side.
the woman was quick to blame her excitement on the promise of cinnamon rolls. no, nothing to do with the boy who was kind enough to bake them for her. nothing at all.
“ahhh, sorry i’m late.” despite her best efforts, jiao rolls in a little later than promised. she’s sporting a sheepish smile as she walks further into the room, quick strides leading her to mike’s side. “sorry to keep you waiting, but more importantly - how are the cinnamon rolls?” she asks with a teasing grin.
her bag slides down her arm to the floor as she takes a seat. placing her elbow on the table, the woman leans her chin into her palm. “are they still warm?”
