I know Snape was the only death eater that was able to produce a patrons and I’d just like to beg your pardon.
Snape conjured a patrons based on an obsession. What he had for Lily might have been love once but let be real, we’ve surpassed that phase. Now it’s just an obsession over her.
Other than Lily, his life was fucking miserable. His father was a prat and his mother was weird. He got bullied at school and he doesn’t really seem to enjoy his teaching life very much.
It’s also portrayed that his patronus is conjured from love and not happiness.
So excuse me if I feel like any other death eater has happier memories than Severus Snape.
Lucius Malfoy, he’s respected at the ministry and has a wife, a son that he at least cares about, a nice ass mansion. He’s wealthy and grew up in a famous, rich family, why can’t he conjure a patronus?
Bellatrix Lestrange, like the only death eater who really enjoys what she’s doing with Voldemort. She straight up laughs when killing Sirius. Why can’t she conjure a patronus?
Regulus Black, whose love for his god damn house elf got himself killed. Why can’t he conjure a patronus?
Narcissa Malfoy, who loves her son more than anything, so much that she straight up lied to Voldemort who can read minds just because there’s a chance her son is still alive. Why can’t she conjure a patronus?
Why can’t any of the death eaters conjure a patronus especially since Harry, at 13 years old, could do it based on a made up memory.
It’s a shit excuse to get people to like Snape more.

Severus getting into potions.
There are many perks of mastering potions. One of them being spiking your dad’s alcohols with a variety of them and observing the outcomes🌝

People saying “ah but if Voldemort had chosen Neville Snape would never have turned” as a kind of gotcha moment is so disingenuous and absurd. We don’t do it for anything else. It’s like asking “would Hamlet want to kill Claudius if his father hadn’t been murdered?” or pointing out that if Dantes hadn’t been wronged then he wouldn’t have sought revenge.
It is at heart like saying that if Snape had had a stable family life and hadn’t been bullied in school, he probably wouldn’t have become a Death Eater. It is interesting to indulge, but at heart it doesn’t matter. Voldemort targeting Lily is the tipping point for Snape. It’s what enables his change and his character development. That’s what’s in the text. What matters for Snape as a character is that after Voldemort targeted Lily, he would have tried to save Neville’s life if it were threatened (which he does in a reduced capacity when Crabbe is suffocating him).

fics that are like 500 to 1200 words or so often have a particular kind of energy to me - like the author sat bolt upright in bed, struck by the most brilliant inspiration of their entire lives, and then typed as fast as their fingers would allow them to in order to capture it all before it left.
oneshots that are just a straight, clear shot from the brain to the page with no real filter in between? that's good stuff right there.

You remember the collective headcanon of the snapedom (thank you for it @smilingformoney) that Severus smells like cinnamon?
Tumblr media
Well, read what's written as a side note near the description of cinnamon as a potion ingredient.
Like I was just doing a bit of research about measurement units used in his class to be able to make a converter app and 💥BOOM💥.
Now we all know why he smells like that: it's actually a common potion ingredient and it also happens to be his favourite flavour of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans.
Like imagine him finding a way of separating the cinnamon ones from the rest and eat those nervously during breaks (because sugar gives him relief and those remind him of easier days).
*fragment from the pdf of the advanced potion making book i never knew existed before my little research

Longbottoms boggart wasn't Snape.
I mean you'd think this would be obvious enough - but people who hate Snape bring it up as their sort of trump card. "He was so bad he was a 13yr olds biggest fear!" No. He wasn't. Boggarts don't quite work like that. Boggarts are not themselves your worst fear - they make you FEEL your worst fear. Hermione isn't actually scared of McGonagall. (I'm sure alot of first years are scared of her though I mean she is strict and stern and a little scary at first.) Did she have some irrational fear of suddenly failing all her classes? Yeah, maybe a little bit - but it is BECAUSE she is scared of not being good enough. From the first book we see her struggling to fit in with her peers. She is muggleborn, she learned she was a witch so suddenly that she poured herself into being the most perfect witch she could.
Professor McGonagall, a stern and strict witch she respects, telling her she isn't good enough despite all of her best efforts makes her FEEL her worst fear. It has nothing to do with Minerva personally - honestly it could probably be replaced with Dumbledore or someone... its just she has far more interaction with Minerva.
SO - Longbottom and Snape: How do I know that Snape isn't his absolute worst fear? Because he still attends Potions every fucking week!!! Do you think RON could attend Charms if it was run by a spider?!? He can pass Snape in the hall, he can sit in the same room as Snape, he can even be teased and bullied by Snape. His parents were tortured to insanity by Death Eaters. Severus Snape is NOT his worst fear, that's stupid. Snape just makes him FEEL his worst fear - like McGonagall makes Hermione feel hers. SO what is Neville worst fear? I think the clue comes with him quickly saying that he also wouldn't want the Boggart to turn into his grandma. Inadequacy. Neville has never been good enough. He has low self worth. The tiniest bits of praise overwhelm him. He never wins any house points and losing some devastates him. He got his magic late, his family kept trying to tease it out of him, thought he was maybe a squib. He has a proud legacy to uphold and he is terrified he cannot. He is the worst potions student Snape has ever had.
Snape makes Neville feel inadequate. His grandmother makes him feel inadequate. But mix them together... and suddenly these two very scary people that seem to have such control over his life... look a little ridiculous.
DO you think Lupin is LITERALLY scared of the moon...? Or does the moon make him feel powerless and dangerous and inhumane? DO you think Harry is LITERALLY scared of Dementors...? Or is he scared of how powerless he is against the horrible way they make him feel - the trauma they bring up from the deep recesses of his mind?
Snape was not so horrific, so awful, so scary, so mean - that he as a man became Nevile's worst fear. He, like his grandma, makes him feel inadequate.

The sole idea of the tv show fills me with horror
I'm afraid they'll make Snape a bidimensional character
I'm afraid he'll get no justice
I'm afraid we will be seen as freaks once again
I'm afraid they'll deminish his being bullied just like we saw our being bullied being deminished
I'm afraid they'll make him a laughing stock
I'm afraid they'll ruin Alan Rickman's legacy
He worked so hard on Snape WHILE BATTLING CANCER and always defended him
Loved him from day one
I'm afraid I'm so scared
